Open Thread for Wednesday

It's the battle of gay marriage and Star Trek! Leonard Nimoy and his wife report that they were invited to fellow Trek star George Takei's marriage to his longtime partner Brad Altman.  The Nimoys couldn't make the nuptials but sent an e-mail.  An e-mail? For Christ sake can't Spock afford a gift? The Nimoys did come out against Proposition 8, the state measure on the November ballot to outlaw same-sex mrriage.  Captain Kirk/Denny Crane Bill Shatner on the other hand was not invited to the Takei-Altman wedding and is mum on the issue of Prop 8.  In the meantime, vote NO on Prop 8 and send the Takei-Altmans a gift.

Nimoy recently did a picture book of obese naked women, showing how beauty is internal and in the eye of the beholder and all that stuff, to deconstruct the notion of skinny models as the only role models. It looks less gross than it sounds and he's achieved his goal of provoking thought.

Higby, you might find a soul mate among those husky damsels.

Nimoy doesn't seem like a judgmental guy so your trying to make a huge issue of this is weird. Maybe he didn't want to come between his various friends, you have NO idea what you're making judgments about. As usual.

Now the Dems are saying Sarah Palin is a racist for wearing a white jacket to a campaign event. Can you spell m-e-l-t-d-o-w-n?

The Early Line: Diageo/Hotline Tracking Poll

Obama/Biden 45%
McCain/Palin 44%
Undec 9%

- Obama and McCain are now tied 44-44% among men. Today's Diageo/Hotline poll is the first in which Obama has not led men since he trailed them 46-45% in the survey completed 9/26.

- The candidates remained tied on economic issues. 42% believe Obama would do the best job handling the U.S. economy, and 42% say McCain. 62% meanwhile believe the economy is the most important issue facing the U.S.

- McCain, however, now has his largest lead ever on energy issues. 46% favor the GOP nominee on managing U.S. energy policies, and 40% favor Obama. One week ago, in the survey completed 9/30, Obama led 46-40% on energy.

Today's Diageo/Hotline tracking poll, conducted 10/5-7 by FD, surveyed 904 LVs and has a margin of error of +/- 3.3%. Party ID Breakdown for the sample is 41%D, 36%R, 18%I.

Bill Shatner was not invited to the Takei-Altman nuptials because Bill Shatner is a tool of monumental proportions.

And how do you know the Nimoy's didn't send a gift as well? You're just assuming because he didn't P.R. his gift-giving, that he's a "cheap bastard"?

No, he just has some fucking manners. It's tacky talking about your gifts to other people.

Oh wait... who am I talking to here?

Nevermind....

9:58 take the tool out of your mouth.

I'm with Mayor Sam on this one. An e-mail? How incredibly tacky.

George Takei has always been a class act while Shatner has been a self-parody for decades.

**ck Prop 8.

Shatner is hilarious on Boston Legal. Unafraid to make fun of himself, like the running gag about his inflatable Shirley Doll and dwarf girlfriend, that is willing to have sex with literally anything in his sunset years. Doesn't seem that Takei can laugh at himself or much of anything. If he wants to marry and have sex with another guy in his sixties Shatner would be the last to object even if he married an inflatable tube. Maybe he made a joke that went over Takei's head?
