Boks Out, Levine In?

What happens when your dad tries to buy you a State Senate seat but you wind up losing to a beloved liberal kook? Perhaps your dad buys you a job as a department manager with the City of Los Angeles.

HaikuLA has been covering extensively the general upset and disapproval of just about everyone in city of Los Angeles Department of Animal Services General Manager Ed Boks. Its probably to safe to say Boks' days on the job are numbered. So if Ed is about to hear "You're fired!" who gets the job?

This evening a very reliable inside source tell us it's none other than termed out Assemblyman and failed State Senate candidate Lloyd Levine. Levine's father is the influential rainmaker and political consultant Larry Levine. Is it possible that the elder Levine has made a deal to get a job for his soon to be unemployed son? We may soon find out.

Boks' severance will have to be massive given all he's ever done is exactly what AV's asked him to do.

Maybe Levine would be better over at DONE?

There would be no severance unless Boks files a lawsuit and there is a settlement agreement.

It is interesting, however, that when good GM's are asked to leave, and they leave without forcing the Mayor to fire them, they get nothing.

But when someone screws up badly and has to be fired, they sue and settlement happy Rocky and the City Council give them money.

Kind of like all those CEO who bankrupt a company and get millions in bonsuses.

Boks will not get a nickel because Dennis Zine specifically warned him that "if he fails, he would get nothing on his way out the door," or something very close to that.

In fact, Boks doesn't even have a contract with the city. He is an at-will employee with an army of people lined up to say he's an incompetent boob.

It's pretty clear that 8:30pm is Ed Boks, or Lloyd Levine trying to get a job at DONE.

Lloyd Levine is even less qualified for the job than Ed Boks was 10 years ago.

Then again, Levine helped...FAIL to pass the spay-neuter bill statewide.

Ha! But at least we'd be finished with Boks and, with a new mayor hopefully on the horizon, Levine soon too.

This might actually be a good move for the mayor and alll parties. The GM of Animal Services has to be a have strong political background to survive.

No GM has a contract. They all serve at the will of the Mayor. Yet, when some have been fired, they sued and got severences as a result of the settlements. If Rocky and the City Council were willing to stand up and fight, there may not be as many severances.

Boks won't get a dime. When he was confirmed all the councilmembers told him that he's an at will employee. They said it over and over because Stuckey had threatened to sue and got $50K.

They should instantly take Boks out on stress leave or legal leave. He has a few lawsuits against him currently. I think automatically you go on leave if someone files a complaint against you for violating the employee manual. He sure as hell as done that, i.e. harassment, intimidation, threatening behavior, driving city vehicle drunk, abuse of power... The Union did file a complaint against him, so did a few employees.

The Mayor of New York saw through this guy and fired him when he made these same mistakes in NY. Why isn't our Mayor firing him? There is something sick here.

Lloyd is smart, knows the issues but he is friends with rescue groups. The employees will hate him for that. The employees hate outsiders. Levine will be eaten alive by the employees. Plus, he's white. The Mayor doesn't want a white GM. He specifically told people selecting the AGMs that he wanted a black or mexican, no more whites. The only problem was only whites applied for the job.

I doubt there's anyone LESS qualified or desirable in that position than Lloyd Levine.

If Levine comes in we can equip the shelters with those mercury filled light bulbs from China. We can also test the theory of how many city workers it takes to install one.
If we are lucky, maybe they will send over some melamine for the animals. Last I heard the dept cut the pet food budget by 20 percent. That melamine could stretch the food budget. Not only that, when the animals die from it they can be categorized as "irremediably suffering. " This could further Boks' claims of being no kill since they wouldn't be put down for time and space.
