Ass Clown Award for the month of July

Pondering your comments and the wealth of candidates within the local political community, this month's selection of Mayor Frank's creation has been an arduous task.
But what solidify this month's winner is something contain in the Constitution of the United States and what this month's Award winner is doing to counter the First Amendment.
Witness a recent "Townhall Meeting/Filibuster"where the overflow crowd was instructed to put all questions for this month's award winner on paper and as Elena Popp and one young man found out, your right to engage in something call "Free Speech" was met with a visit by "men in uniform", at least in the Soviet Union the KGB had a clothing budget!

With that, we name the "COUNCILMAN LAST SEEN SPEAKING AS JOSE HUIZAR" as the Ass Clown Award winner for the month of July.

Much was expected from the "COUNCILMAN LAST SEEN SPEAKING AS JOSE HUIZAR" when he was elected to the LAUSD School Board. He aligned himself with the like minded, moderated political establishment which best reflected the Latino community.

Yet somewhere along in the political evolution of the "COUNCILMAN LAST SEEN SPEAKING AS JOSE HUIZAR", the "worship of me" took sway from the "advocate of community". One can see "Huizar's Winter Wonderland" as an example of that.
Constituents and groups who run counter to the political directives and desires of the "COUNCILMAN LAST SEEN SPEAKING AS JOSE HUIZAR", are met with disdain and derision from a "revolving door of staffers" and operatives such as the "Southwest Society" , David Galaviz , the likes of Don Jones, with help from Latham and Watkins and Steve Sugerman.

Nor are any cultural or historical places and institutions in CD 14 beyond being sold to a perspective donor/ special interest. Witness the on-going and growing controversies involving Wyvernwood, the Southwest Museum, Elephant Hill, Hazard Park and Avery Park/Connector Road in El Sereno.

........in ending, practice your CD 14 Constitutional Right to "Cut and Paste" before the "cyber man in uniform" comes to cut you offline.

Bong Water Kim, runner up! I'm just sure of it. See what Citywatch says about the recent "farce" meeting to allow neighborhood councils to "plan" their own Congress (or, perhaps the last 90 minutes . . .)

From Huizar and Mayor Villar, you expect dissing and being ignored. That's pro forma. But from the guy who runs the department that's supposed to be OPENING THE DOOR FOR EMPOWERMENT, maybe you could expect a bit less of a sham?

Ah, geeeez. Who let Red Snot be in charge of "AC" awards? How stupid is that?

At least Mayor Frank looked at the bigger picture, and not just his personal beefs with a handful of small potato electeds.

C'mon, Huizar's not even a major player downtown. He's a back-bencher even after three years . . . doesn't run any major committees, produce any first-run legislation, or pull any weight.

He's the "king" of special fee waivers, and that's about it.

Yeah, yeah.

"News flash" - RS doesn't like Huizar, or Reyes, or anyone else who represents the eastside. Take out a full page ad.

(And he really hates anyone who can spell half right).

YAWN!

This blog has gotten SO predictable.

And early nominee for August's award just surfaced. Chief Bratton held a press conference today to say that major violent crimes are way down.

He attributed the decline to the fact that murderers and other violent felons are now concerned that if caught, Bratton will "out" them as homosexuals.

Finally found their Achilles heel!

Consider several factors for the AS award to Huizar; manages to get the child of a "relative" of his out of the non-overcrowded local school near the "relative's" home and into a desirable school in guess where; issuing City of Los Angeles Wedding Day proclamations to two same sex couples he recently married (but not to anyone else who marries, including "relatives") among others. In this town where you have to pay to know someone, it's refreshing to see that it pays to know someone.

On July 13, 2008, five gay couples in Eagle Rock joined the landslide of gay California couples in exchanging wedding vows.

Michael and Eugenie Nogueira, (Sir Michael's Party rentals)provided their very confortable and beautiful Hill Drive estate as the venue for these Eagle Rock nuptials.

Performing the five ceremonies were CD14 Councilman Jose Huizar, who did two, and Superior Court Judge Zeke Zeidler who did the other three.

Councilman Huizar married Carl Johnson to local piano maestro Carl Matthes. What made this special, though, is that Carl Matthes sister Ella Matthes was betrothed to Dr. Gladi Adams at the same time, which may be the first brother and sister gay wedding ever.

From "Jose's Blog"

As a public official, it’s always a great feeling when you see something you worked so hard on come to fruition. But this last Saturday, with the opening of Vista Hermosa Park in downtown L.A., a project I spearheaded as a member of LAUSD’s school board in 2003, the feelings of joy, relief and pride shivered through my mind constantly.

I’m sure the beauty of the park, with its lush hills, streams and rocks, had a little something to do with it. But seeing the community – particularly the hundreds of kids who showed up just having the time of their lives – that really did it for me.

While I was on the school board, I enlisted the support of community members and elected officials to come up with a plan to redesign the troubled Belmont Learning Center and push for the construction of the 10.5-acre park. Vista Hermosa (Beautiful View) overlooks the downtown skyline and is located next to the Edward R. Roybal Learning Center, which will open this fall.

Some people might ask, what’s the big deal about a park? But for the Belmont community, which consists mostly of low-income residents who have embarrassingly little access to green space, this park helps right the wrongs they’ve been dealt. Every kid deserves a place to play. And Vista Hermosa is a great place to play and learn.

The battle in 2003 to approve my plan was simply a matter of doing the right thing.

We built a coalition, including the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, to design the park and help gather political support to get the necessary votes on the board to complete the new plan. It was quite a struggle, but I was fighting to give this community something they could be proud of for years to come. It wasn’t easy, but look at the results.

I want to thank my fellow board members, Marlene Canter, Mike Lansing and Genethia Hudley Hayes for their votes to make this happen. They showed great courage during a tough time and this community greatly appreciates that. I also want to thank Mónica García, my chief of staff at the time and current LAUSD school board president, my former staff member David Cobb, and Councilman Ed Reyes, for their work to bring his plan to fruition.

Vista Hermosa Park is located at 100 N. Toluca Street, at the corner of First Street and Toluca.

This morning I had the honor to announce the awarding of $200,000 from The California Endowment to Legacy L.A., a developing nonprofit that plans to turn the old federal Armory at Hazard Park into a youth development center. I worked with Legacy L.A. to obtain these funds to kick off some of its work. Once converted, the armory will offer an array of educational, cultural and recreational services. I also announced the 10 winners of Legacy L.A.’s “Dream Big Fellowship,” a year-long program where high school kids will do research and help design the new youth center and decide what programs will best serve the surrounding communities. Some time ago, I thought why should we fill the armory with vehicles when we can fill it with kids? So congratulations to the Dream Big recipients – Adelante! The fellows are: Genesis Galvez, Karla Garcia, Jose Hernandez, Lucy Herrera, Marcela Juarez, Andres Martinez, Ismael Quezada, Arnold Ron, Martha Rosales and Jesus Valdez. And thanks to The California Endowment for your support!

There was a nice turnout of people (and dogs) at the Hermon Dog Park Dog Days of Summer event on Saturday. I was a proud to co-sponsor the event and it was great to see so many responsible pet owners out there learning new ways to better care for their animals. The Friends of Hermon Dog Park, a nonprofit organization that supports the dog park and advocates responsible pet ownership, organized the event and offered services such as pet vaccinations and a young doggy behavioral seminar called “Puppy Party.”

As a dog owner, I understand the bond that exists between humans and their pets. My chocolate Labrador, Coco, is an important part of the family. She brings my wife and me and particularly our kids, a lot of joy. Congrats to Wendi Riser, Lezle Stein, Ursula Brown and the rest of The Friends of Hermon Dog Park for all the work they do on behalf of our four-legged pals, not only for this event, but year-round. I look forward to it again next year!

Quote from Weezar at 6:16 doesn't mention, as did the LA Times article, that this park was created mostly for illegal immigrants, to show that the "undocumented" had as much right to enjoy this hugely expensive park as do "other residents." == That's the concept near and dear to Weezee, Special Ed Reyes, Alarcon, Cardenas, Molina, Padilla, Fuentes...

No wonder "pride shivered through my mind constantly," writes this product of Princeton, was it? And his spinners insist there's no such thing as major aff-action for LA Latinos, especially if they're born in Mexico and daddy picks lettuce or toils making tortillas? (Still, he's not as bad as the others, just kind of awed with himself that he's somehow a Councilmember -- yes, it is shocking that any of them are -- and he's no dumber than the rest, anyway.)

Vista Hermosa/ aka Beaudry High- all the same land. I wonder where the LAUSD clan who are taking credit for the cosmetically pristine park and school facility will be when the first lawsuits ar filed for harm to students caused by the hazardous environment that they chose to plant all this upon.

Or maybe that will be overshadowed by the earthquake faultline becoming more than a simple line on a map. At least in that case, the methane and any other gases won't build up to any explosive pressures.

No, I don't think any of these people will have to worry about any personal liability for their decisions and support to put other people at risk and burn up tons of cash along the way.

From a financial standpoint, at least their friends made some good money on the deals (as usual).
That's all that matters nowadays.

In cd-14. Aahw, Jose, stay away from there, didn't you read the label?

Maria Victoria Event - Honoring a Latina Legend at the Orpheum

On Thursday I honored Mexican actress and singer Maria Victoria at the Orpheum Theater. She’s a multi-talented performer who has had a long and impressive career. She has appeared in 41 films, 14 television novellas and recorded more than 100 albums. A throng of loyal Maria Victoria fans showed up to see this Latina icon in person and to watch her movie, “Los Paquetes de Paquita.” Many, including myself, recognize her from the ongoing series, “La criada bien criada.”

The event was sponsored by TuTv, a joint-venture between Univision Networks and Grupo Televisa, which packages Spanish-language shows and films for Latino audiences in the United States. Before honoring Victoria, I talked to the largely Latino audience about my Bringing Back Broadway initiative.

The audience was very receptive when I told them that I want to restore all the great Broadway theaters to their previous grandeur and that once we’re done with those and other improvements, including bringing back the streetcars to downtown Los Angeles, that the new and improved Broadway corridor will be a place for all people to gather. Then I had the pleasure of introducing Maria Victoria. What a treat to be in the presence of such a legend in the Mexican movie industry.

Remember when Huizar was running for CD14 in 2007...he refused to debate with John Jay or Alvin Parra. Huizar set the rules or he refused to show up. His staff filled the room and asked all of the questions Huizar wanted to answer. When a man runs "unopposed" because no one can speak against him he will surely win....the first time....but I hope the community has learned about Huizar as we learned about lying Tony. Remember that Tony chose Jose for El Pueblo, then LAUSD, then CD14. Where is Tony going to send Huizar next...and when? Maybe Jose is being sent to his old community in Mexico to deliver the four ambulances he is sending to Mexico at $1.00 each. Tell me that some community in the United States does not need 4 ambulances; free.
