Ron Kaye for LA City Controller
The momentum to change LA is moving forward. But it takes leadership and it takes people stepping up.That's why today we're announcing an effort to draft former Daily News editor Ron Kaye to run for Los Angeles City Controller.
Ron has covered LA politics for 30 years. No one knows the ins and outs of City Hall more than Ron. No one is more qualified to be the taxpayers' watchdog.

Thank you Ron Kaye and Michael for bringing SLAP to my attention. I'm telling all my friends that its time to do something instead of sitting on your butts complaining. This group of morons in city hall need to be held accountable and we can make them do that with people. Get up off your lazy asses and join.

Don't really think we need someone from the scholl of yellow journalism, screaming headlines on every issue running an audit, accounting department.
The worst aspect of past and present Controllers acts has been the running to the press on every audit, before the department is aware of the audit findings. Having a headline screamer isn't what the City needs. A nice dutiful accountant, auditor would be perfect. Let the politicians splatter the BS to the public, just give me sound findings on audits and financial reports.
Ron Kaye would be terrific.
If a C.P.A. runs, we can reconsider. But Ron has run a business, he gives a damn, and he's not a career politician.
Your alternative, right now, is Wendy Greuel.

I had hoped that Ron Kaye would run for City Council, specifically CD12. Controller is nice but I would prefer to see Ron on the front lines with direct contact with his constituents and Neighborhood Councils. I definitely support Ron's candidacy -- whichever spot he chooses.
The fish stinks from the head downwards. He should run for mayor.

Maybe if she wins the Clowncil seat whe will have more work to do aside from being the City Hall Oprah at her monthly Yenta-fests. Videos of which she puts on her City website, as if it were City biz.
Does anybody really think that Laura wouldn't fall right into line again if she moved to the council? Her independence is solely derived from the power of the controller's office. She is free to audit at will -- and ignore problems like LA Bridges at will. For those old enough to remember: What did Laura do when one her council colleagues was busted in his office with coke and porn?

I know you're aware of this 9:34 or you wouldn't bother attempting to lump Kaye with the bozos who wander this site. But for the uninformed:
I don't care how much money Wendy has raised, an opponent like Kaye is her worst nightmare.
He's no gadfly. For 20 years he's had a huge influence on LA politics. There would have been no secession fight without Ron Kaye. During that period he has won the respect of community leaders and some of the most powerful people in town.
It would be impossible now to characterize him as some nut running around with tin foil on his head. Since he left the Daily News, he's been feted by some of the biggest organizations in town, from Coro to the Valley Economic Alliance.
And while Wendy is liked, she's part of a system that Kaye clearly believes is inherently corrupt. She may generate cash, but he'll generate passion - and that's a big problem for her, or anyone else for that matter.
You are correct.
Can you see Wendy in a debate with Kaye? He would mop the floor with her. Higby is right Ron has a great sense of humor the humorless Wendy could not equal.
There is no reason why Laura Chick, if elected again to the City Council, could not continue her maverick, independent ways in the mold of Ernani Bernardi and Joel Wachs. Both were able to leave office without the slightest taint of scandal, conflict of interest, or being owned by the big money people.
3:20 -- bullsh*t on Wachs leaving without being tainted. He totally sold out, ****ed the communities of Sunland, Lake View Terrace, Shadow Hills, and La Tuna Canyon with the crooked "Red Tail Golf Club" (now Angeles National.) Every day we reap the benefits of his sellout.
It took more than 300 mitigation measures to push this through (and counting), and Wendy G refuses to make the City enforce all of the most important ones!
We'll hate Wach's guts until the day Mother Nature washes that piece of **** away. WACHS -- YOU TOTAL ****ing SELLOUT. Pulls this crap, then sneaks off to NY where he doesn't have to look his constituents in the eye... total bastard.
Sorry. She won't ruffle feathers on the council (LA Bridges) and she's' been Antonio's lap dog since he took office (everything he's done). She's a media whore who goes after the weak.
I also would rather see Ron run for council and I too would specifically like to see him run in CD 12. He could beat Zine in CD 3, but the constituents of CD 12 need him badly.
