Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday
We told you this was coming back during the Summer of Love. AnVil not only wants to clean your toilets, he wants you to drink from them. Toilet to Tap is back! And Ron Kaye reminds us how it fired up the secession movement back in the 90s and how the Daily News under his leadership led the charge.
Couple of interesting items in light of the State Supreme Court's ruling that allows gays to marry in California. Joseph Mailander observes that the lone Schwarzenegger appointee to the Court joined the minority who ruled against overturning the state's laws banning gay marriage while three of the four Justices who voted to overturn the ban were either George Deukmejian or Pete Wilson appointees. A fact of course that blows out of the water conservatives claims that the Governor's less than right wing stance is responsible for this. In a related, stunning development, Zuma Dogg has proposed marriage to openly gay Councilman Bill Rosendahl. Big loser in the whole thing? AnVil since San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will get all the credit and all the gay Democratic political support and money come the 2010 Democratic Gubenatorial primary.
We've talked about the Rocky Delgadillo obsessed billboard NIMBYs and the MTA's new videos on the wall of it's subway tunnels. CurbedLA has a piece where one billboard NIMBY says he'll leave town if Angelenos decide they are in favor of billboards. Check out the comments section of the post; many great contributions.
Ever tried to hail a cab in LA? Unless you're at an airport or a few select hotels or other locations it's illegal. But that is changing.

Higby, only really, really stupid people are as stubbornly stupid as you over the billboard thing, calling opponents of The Rocky/ClearChannel's shakedown of the city for many millions and using the idiots on the council plus Rocky as their backdoor.
But you're on the side you SHOULD be on the issue, with Rocky/Reyes/Perry, the dummies -- while anyone smart, which is everyone else from David Z and Patt Morrison of the Times as well as Stewart/Pelisek/ Curbed L A majority except a few grunges, are solidly on the other.
One graffiti artist suggested a good idea to community activism: since at least 4000 ClearChannel Billboards are illegal, as well as the 800 LED ones, and they're not paying the $2500/day fine per billboard, they're FAIR GAME FOR ANY GRAFFITI ARTIST, public property, go at it, people...Bet that will get CC to take them down.
Maybe put up your huge face on them and that would get people to leave town for sure. OR like Rocky your hero of Stupid, you can get a payoff from CC -- to go away.
OR the Happy Couple Zuma/Rosendahl in matching caps -- gotta admit, they're SO stunning, gesundheit!
Rosendahl will finally stop whining like a girl and do something about them in HIS district like his people want.

Kaye's blog is great: inside info from a guy who's been involved with LA for 20 years. This guy knows what he's talking about.

Ron Kaye should run for Mayor. Maybe this sewage water thing will be the Mayor's last straw. Great job for Newsom getting all the national media spotlight praise. Antonio tried by having his own little press conf. with gays saying he will marry as many as he could. Could the rumor be true that he's been in the closet?

I will the first one to call this. Watch Rosendahl get married and have the Mayor officiate just to get a photo op. Problem is there are many conservatives in this city and there will be a backlash starting like now because the Mayor is over doing it as always.

How can Rosendahl get married? He can't find anyone to date? He's an old, goofy queen with no prospects. He carries around a recipe box full of index cards like it is a Treo. By the time he got through the cards to make a booty call his boi-toy would be onto his third bang.
Rosendahl's best prospect is Zuma Nutt. Maybe they can bang in the back of the van while Zuma sings Chevy Van.
It was really sad to see Bill wander the Gay Pride parade with his shirt wide open, his white chest hair exposed to young boys who said "ewwwwwwwwwwww."

That quote on the Curbed LA post about subway ads was taken out of context. If people read the L.A. Times story, they'll see that the person quoted wasn't just talking about subway ads, but the issue of the city selling off its public spaces to corporate advertisers, and whether or not there should be a public debate to determine whether this is the kind of city people really want.
Characterizing people who want this issue fully debated as Westide Nimbys and cranks is just mindless name-calling.

Name calling aside I agree with Mayor Sam. There is a cadre of busybodies in the city who are very loud and manage to sometimes fill rooms with their cranky friends. It's typically not well thought out and an emotional reaction.
There is indeed a role for public discussion on this issue however if one community comes to a different conclusion than another that should be respected. One way or another a given community should not expect their view to be the preeminent standard citywide.

Higby and his supporters are just plain dim when it comes to the billboard issue, and commenter is right, that he can't understand the facts so he resorts to one-size-fits all namecalling, playing into the hands of a company which is profiting by illegal billboards it refuses to pay for -- with the help of the Higbys, our dumbest Councilmembers and their constituents who can't get past 6th grade reasoning, and of course, Mayor Sam Mascot, Rocky!
Trying to explain the "facts" to these people is pointless, they're just so much mentally more challenged than those who's figured it out. Thank Goodness there ARE still papers with writers like David Z, Jill Stewart and Christine Pelisek and Steven Leigh Morris at L A Weekly (Jill can be forgiven for ZD, everyone makes ONE misake.) They prove the difference between "real" reporters who are trained to research, analyze, vet and report the facts.

DUPED, again.
Once again, MEDDLING, confused and defrocked ex-DONE Gen. Mgr. Greg Nelson raised the EVIL spectre of budget cuts for neighborhood councils and called on all NCs to send people to City Council chambers today.
And the city council had NO plans to cut the budget of NCs. Dozens, maybe 100 or more NC people have wasted half of day of useful time waiting for the sky to fall, and nothing fell.
. . . except Nelson's credibility.
THANKS, loads Mommy Nelson. Time to retire and go back home to Orange County. The kiddies have grown, and don't need you to spoon feed them bad information any more.
NCs DON'T need you're misguided prompting. You weren't much help keeping them on course when it was your DAMN JOB, and you're even more clueless now.
Mayor Sam said:
I don't know if Zuma Dogg covered it but there was a lot of budget nonsense going on. For example the city's main librarian told local librarians to go to their local NCs and scare them that their budget was being cut. Our NC bit at the very same moment that Wendy Greuel was telling another NC that the library funds were not cut.

The NC people there not being spooked by Greg Nelson's Chicken Little shenanigans were there for the park rangers' budget, or whatever the heck they now call them (general services police?)
There just wasn't ANY way in hell that the councilmembers - who have to deal with NC board members constantly - were going to let themselves be the bad guys who cut the NC budgets, when Mayor AV (who seldom has to face them), made a big play about NOT cutting NC budgets himself.
Anybody with half a brain* for local politics could see that.
(*Which leaves out the the former DONE GM, of course, and explains why his administration left NCs so poorly prepared for dealing with city business).

As to AnVil, Gavin Newsome, and political contributions for a run for Governor, man I hope you are right!
