California Supreme Court Overturns Gay Marriage Ban
The California Supreme Court ruled today in favor of overturning a ban on same-sex marriages. The Court found California laws limiting marriage to opposite-sex couples violate the constitutional rights of same-sex couples.
The ruling was authored by Chief Justice Ronald George. A snippet from the 121-page majority opinion:
Mazel tov, felicidades, best wishes and good luck to anyone out there in the Sister City ready to take the plunge. If you find yourselves in need of a Flower Grrrl, holla at a Doll --- I love a good wedding!
The ruling was authored by Chief Justice Ronald George. A snippet from the 121-page majority opinion:
"In contrast to earlier times," the opinion reads, "our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation." More generally, "an individual's sexual orientation -- like a person's race or gender -- does not constitute a legitimate basis upon which to deny or withhold legal rights," it says.
"In view of the substance and significance of the fundamental right to form a family relationship," the court concluded, "the California Constitution properly must be interpreted to guarantee this basic civil right to all Californians, whether gay or heterosexual, and to same-sex couples as well as to opposite-sex couples."
Mazel tov, felicidades, best wishes and good luck to anyone out there in the Sister City ready to take the plunge. If you find yourselves in need of a Flower Grrrl, holla at a Doll --- I love a good wedding!

Villar really ment it when he said "I love you all".
News flash for same-sex couples: L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is ready to help you tie the knot, Jean-Paul Renaud reports.
"It's been a long journey to reach this historic day," [Villaraigosa] said in the courtyard of L.A.'s Gay and Lesbian Community Center. "This is about people and the right for people to love who they want."
Villaraigosa pledged his full support in campaigning against an attempt to amend the state constitution.
"I will stand with you," he said. "I will do everything in my power to keep this decision the law of the land."

Oh yeh.
Now the mayor finds a law he's willing to everything in his power to defend this decision...
what about the decision to uphold federal law and recind Special Order 40?
or do you pick and choose which laws to enforce?
how about fidelity?
oh we already know the answer to that one.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa hailed the California Supreme Court decision today, saying he would officiate over as many same-sex weddings as possible.
The mayor stood by leaders of the gay and lesbian community today, calling the high-court's decision a victory for California.

The result is inevitable: immigrants will become easy prey for criminals who know the victims will not report offenses to the police for fear of being deported. I am not in support of the calls to modify Special Order 40.
LGBT Couples are served justice!!!!
Thank you!!!!!

Question So does this mean if an illegal alien gets hitched up with someone of the same sex?
They become citizens of the USA or just California or maybe Los Angeles if the
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa performs the ceremony.

So gays have the right to marry... they better be careful, if the relationship goes "south", they can't get a quickie Vegas divorce... and no, California doesn't grant gay divorces!

I'm glad to see that Mayor Sam's is progressive! I'm gay and am happy too! While I'm not rushing out to get married, it's good to know that if I WANTED to I could. We shall see. But still, glad to see the nice comments so far. :)

This will be great for the economy. Well, at least it will be good business for the florists, bakers, tux rentals, gown makers and wedding planners. Lord knows we need all the help we can get. At least they will be able to pay their mortgages.
Regarding the figurines, I don't think either is Jackie Goldberg. Hers wouldn't fit on top of the cake.

Mazel Tov All!
Honest to God, I have never been able to understand the anti-argument here. How in the world can two people who love each other and choose to marry threaten the marriage I have with my wife?
Now we must stand united and fight the inevitable attempt to change the California State Constitution.

No 4:07, you are dead wrong.
Back in 2001, I was at a function held by a GLBT group and the Mayor (before he was the Mayor) was there and he was VERY supportive of their causes and issues.
I can guarantee that he is not pandering for votes because he is running. There were several of us straight people there, but we were outnumbered by the gays and I was so happy to know that there are so many politically active gays and lesbians in our City.
Congratulations to all of you gay readers and I wish you all the best! Finally we are going to treat everyone equally and this is a very good thing for California.

Wow. :(
Sorry you feel that way. I always thought love was love was love was love ... and if it involved two consenting adults, it was all good!
Love is love is love is love is love is love is love.
How can any love be bad, if it's pure?

And God and all the Angelic Chorus knows William Burroughs knew his pain killers.
As a footnote can you imagine a stout effeminate, bearded but swishy Allen Ginsburg leading chants and playing his finger cymbals to celebrate this social breakthrough?

You are so right. It does say Adam and Eve. Genesis doesn't mention marriage.
BTW....Adam and Eve were given the freedom to chose. The only choice then was with regard to fruit on a tree. There was no mention of gay couples.
Regarding the fruit, God decided what actions to take....not the government.

If gays want to marry that's fine. Let them have the nasty divorces too and maybe they will change their minds.
