You miserable cur
Among America's ten most miserable cities: LA is number six.
The clowns at Forbes must be reading MayorSam readers' comments. Really, it's not that bad. No way in hell LA belongs on the same list for anything as Stockton.

From the article:
"The people of La-La Land have some of the best weather in the U.S. (it's ranked seventh) but scored poorly when it came to commute times, Superfund sites and taxes."
You hear that Tony Villar? Superfund sites I don't know about, but you're going to tax us to oblivion.
And as Walter Moore has reported, the next Prop S is coming.
Remember, we have two more elections this year. Start saving now.

What do you expect when you have a gang banger Mayor and idiot council people passing dumb ass motions and acting like embiciles. This is the wortt group in the history of LA running this city. They all embarrass us to the entire nation. Not a one leader in the bunch.

Yeah, but at least L.A. is still #1 in air pollution!

On February 14, I will be releasing what I believe is one of the most critical documents produced in my six years as City Controller. My Blueprint on Gang Prevention & Intervention presents a comprehensive seismic overhaul in how to address the gang crisis that plagues our communities.
THIS BITCH BETTER HAVE DONE A GANG AUDIT AFTER SHE WAS PAID BY COUNCIL TO DO ONE. WE DON'T NEED A DAMN BLUEPRINT, CONNIE RICE ALREADY DID THE WORK LAURA. WHERE THE HELL IS THE GANG AUDIT AND WHERE ARE THE REPORTERS WHO SHOULD BE ASKING HER????

Ilegal Immigrants Leaving Arizona, Oklahoma for Texas
Immigration / AP FOX 26 News
HOUSTON -- Illegal immigrants are coming into Texas..The rush is coming from Arizona, Oklahoma and other states -- places that have recently passed tough new anti-illegal immigrant laws. The Oklahoma statute, which took effect in November, makes it a crime to transport, harbor or hire illegal immigrants. Effective Jan. 1, the Arizona law suspends the business license of employers who knowingly hire undocumented workers. On a second offense, the license is revoked.

Cardenas (with Hahn) heads the city's gang intervention committee -- one of the hearings is on CH 35 today.
They have blacks working in Nickerson Gardens, and black areas. But also, Cardenas keeps saying again and again how "people in this city can't believ that this stuff is not a movie, it's real and happening in this city, among OUR PEOPLE."
no, they're not OUR people, but that is the clever ruse he, Reyes, Alarcon and the rest use to make us feel it's OUR responsibility to buy our way out of the mess.
What about rescinding SP 40, and declaring L A NOT a "Sanctuary City?"
Sure, there were these black gangs and projects before the illegal gangs, but blacks are a dwindling minority in the city and could be handled if that's all there was.

L A is actually 7, and we beat out New York, Chicago and Philadelphia at something!
But hey, New York has the Giants, and we have a crumbling Coliseum without a team. With better weather.
Besides commute time, the worst cities have the highest taxes and crime rates.
Those other cities presumably have black crime, but the Latino gangs necessitating high taxes for crime fighting is a big part of our problem.
And this doesn't even mention the schools in each city. We know that L A comes out lowest of 11 big cities on that score. Wonder why. And no, it's not a need for more taxes.

Total bullshit from of all places Portland Oregon where the sky ceiling (low clouds) are about 25' above ground level most of the year. High ass suicide and depression problem there.
Rains all the time and the mold and banana slugs grow at record rates.
Or try living in Denver or Minneapolis or Chicago and it's either hot and humid as hell or it's 20 below zero all winter.
Try Phoenix out where it's either 115 degrees or windy dusty and ugly as any flat lifeless LA Suburbia with the same fucked up traffic mess.
No thanks, in the winter time going north on the Pasadena Fry when you come out of the tunnel and see the beautiful blue sky (not always, granted) and the Sierra Madre Mtns all covered in snow, beautiful! Many other scenes like that available all year round in the LA area.
My list of great cities
1. LA of course, can't be beat unless you are unfortunate enough to have to drive the 405 or the Santa Ana frwy everyday.
2. San Diego, best weather in the world hands down.
3. San Francisco, enough said.
4. New York, the big apple, the city that never sleeps and cultural amenities abound.
5. Miami, great ocean, international flavor, tropical paradise.
6. New Orleans (pre Katrina) where the food, drink, and partee never stops.
7. Sedona Ariz. where the weather, the great outdoors, and the vibe are fantastic.
8. Palm Springs area where the weather and natural beauty are unique in the world. Yeah "Gods Waiting Room" but what a place to wait. Playing 18 holes at the Indian Wells Golf Resort on a January day with the palm trees blowing in a soft breeze and the San Jacinto Mtns are covered in white and the sand dunes covered in purple verbena, wow!
An old Jewish friend once told me "The wealthiest people in the world who can live anywhere on the planet all come to Palm Springs and live extraordinary long lives, it's the water from the surrounding springs, there's magic in it.
9.Santa Fe, New Mexico where the oldest capital in the USA is and the art and food and architecture, cultural opportunities abound, the great ski areas close by, the whole enchilada. Have a martini with three olives and some smoked salmon or baked brie while in the old bar of the Saint Francis Hotel and watch the world go by from your window seat.
10. Seattle for it's beauty, even though it rains like hell all the time. Great location with the ocean and Puget sound and the seafood and the greenery and Mt Rainer looking over the eastern horizon and the Olympic Mtns snow covered to the west.
Just my take on it.

Flood Chicago, Seattle, Denver, and Houston with 4 million people, situate these cities in valleys, surround them by many thousand square miles of thick urban landscape with another 12 million people, and reduce precipitation to 15 inches per year.
Then tell me L.A. is #1 in air pollution.
These apples/oranges comparisons tell us nothing. I wish Angelenos would stop trying to change L.A. and start enjoying and appreciating it--the way New Yorkers enjoy and appreciate New York.
We are lucky to live in such an amazing place, yet so many of us are dedicated to wiping L.A. from the map.

We have great weather, nice beaches, mountains, deserts, culture, great restaurants. We also have high crime, traffic, smog, very rude drivers, high home costs, high taxes and nasty people in general. I've driven across the nation a couple of times. Besides NY, LA is the worst for rude drivers, traffic, smog, nasty people and crime. People are so nice in other states that it's creepy. They're so polite that it makes you think "what do they want?"

Let’s not be disappointed Los Angeles is #1 when in comes to mexican street gangs.
Even the Mayor and police chief declared Los Angels the "gang capital of the world".
We have more cholos than anywhere else in the world, be proud Los Angeles be very proud.
In Los Angeles you can buy a gun and crack cocaine in any barrio or ghetto. Many LAUSD school offer gang training and drug sales classes.
You can buy pirated DVDs from illegal street vendors all over this city. You can enjoy a bacon wrapped hot dog coked from a shopping cart on hundreds of street corners.
Just like the song says LA we love it.
Colorado passed tough immigartion laws and the crime rate and unemployment dropped, who in the hell wants that.

how can it be a crime to transport, or harbor an illegal? that's total bullshit. how are you to know if they don't tell you? does everyone have to prove their sh*t to everybody else? no. employing someone without proper documents, that's already illegal, so these new things are just crap.
don quixote .... your list sounds like the latter half are better.
LA is better if you don;t have to drive the 405??? that's like saying cancer is ok if you don't have to get chemo.
and New Orleans pre Katrina, that's like saying Los Angeles pre Antonio.
pointless.
that's our take.

Joe,
You need to walk around the East Los Angeles housing projects at night, or the Nickerson Gardens projects anytime of the day or night. I guarantee you will think L.A. is one of the worst cities in the world. There are many very dangerous areas of Los Angeles, which I am pretty sure you have NOT been around. You need to drive around South Central Los Angeles, and see miles and miles of neighborhoods where no one with any common sense would walk at night. If you compare the nice areas of Los Angeles to all the dangerous ghettos of Los Angeles, you might think differently. Vist Cudahy, Florence, Compton, Huntington Park and Watts for the other L.A. experience.
There is a reason virtually no white families send their kids schools in Los Angeles. The schools are dangerous, violent and any kid would have a difficult task receiving a decent education in these conditions.
Traffic is but just one small part of Los Angeles problems. You need to talk to any new kid, about his experience in L.A. high school. I'm sure the kid will tell you about gangs, violence and drugs in the schools. I have heard some unbelievable stories from high school kids about what goes on in the LAUSD high schools.

Your point is well taken Matt.
But I never had to drive the 405 on a steady basis and most people in LA don't either.
That's kind of like the whiny people who complain about LA and have never been east of Robertson. Scared shit less I guess but missing out on some of the best of LA.
And OK instead of New Orleans pre Katrina lets tell it like it is, NawOrleans pre Bush, "ya doin a good job Brownie."

Don Quixote needs to get out of LA more and actually live in the cities he claims are worse than this garbage dump. Denver is NOT either always freakishly hot or cold, much of the year the weather is moderate, same for Minneapolis. Even Chicago, though it does have some of the coldest winters, has beautiful spring & fall weather. It's also one of the greatest architectural cities, easy to get around on foot or by cab or public transit. Same for Denver, it's public transit system has kept evolving and it's now a model many other cities are studying.
LA has too many problems of a huge nature: It's sickeningly hot most of the year, especially if you live anywhere but a beach town. The traffic is horrific, not just the 10, 405, etc but trying to get from West LA to Hollywood can give you a stroke it's so bad. People here act like monsters, especially while driving (while texting, while eating, while putting on makeup). It's appallingly expensive to rent even a modest place to live in a safe neighborhood and the majority of apartment buildings are constructed so poorly you can hear your neighbor pee, fart and open a diet soda on an given afternoon. Add in the insane flow of immigrants - illegal & otherwise - who speak little to no English and clearly have no interest in learning to live like civilized humans but instead treat their new neighborhood like it was the good old slum back home...Stockton should be embarassed to be on the list with US.
Hard to believe how this place has deteriorated so pathetically in the 14 years I've lived here. I just need 10 more months on my job to be vested then I'm outta here.

Chicago has nice weather for two weeks. The taxi drivers are incompetent buffoons who don't know the streets and they are dishonest to boot. The public transit system was designed by blind chimps. Sure it's great if you live RIGHT NEXT to a stop. Otherwise you walk and walk and walk. (in miserable heat or cold).

Seven murders in Los Angeles Times with a date of Feb 11, 2008. How many shootings occured that day, where the victim survived? How many robberies, bulglaries and other crimes occur on a daily basis. Los Angeles is a very dangerous city in many, many areas.
There are probably thousands of streets in Los Angeles where people can't walk at night. Is it any wonder L.A. ranks as one of the worst cities.
Now let's look at the financial problems Los Angeles has. Even with the extra "phone tax", the city still has budget problems.
Los Angeles has some of the worst performing schools in the country, why do you think you don't see white families moving into Los Angeles. White couples with no kids are the only ones, who might move into central Los Angeles.
Who would want to leave the west-side to visit areas like Westlake or East Los Angeles. These areas are full of gangs, dirty streets, and look like a slum in Mexico. You have illegal street vendors paying street taxes to mexican gangs, does this sound like an an area I would want to visit?
Does this sound like a wonderful city to you?

Good idea! stay over there, more $6.00 double latte opportunities and yoga joints for the yenta set.
I'll stay on the eastside or valley and have my $1.25 coffee at the Vietnamese run Yum Yum donut shop

Downtown LA looks like a 3rd world country with all the illegal vendors but Huizar found $40 million miraclously to revamp it to make his developers happy. Cardenas Ad Hoc Gang committee is a joke. All they do is meet once a month and its already been over a year and 1/2 since Connie Rice gave them a plan and they haven't done one thing to help the gang problem. Now Laura Chick N Shit is coming out with her plan instead of auditing all gang programs to find out where $82 MILLION is being wasted.

Los Angeles has a wonderful climate. I've been here since 1936 and watched grow to a beautiful place up until the 60's. Now it's a degraded third world hellhole with people to match. I dislike being associated with the name "Los Angeles" anything.
Anonymous said:
9:46 a.m.: The brilliant plan Connie Rice gave the Committee which you refer to, would cost some $500 million to implement. To start, with annual huge continuing expenses.
The committee rejected it for financial reasons, fortunately -- she's more wasteful than that Janice Hahn, who's intent on punishing homeowners further with a tax levied only on them for gang intervention.
Connie Rice is also in the papers again today as being the chief critic of the LAPD's ability to police itself -- she's egging on the oversight commission to fine us further and condemn the LAPD. She can stuff her report and go away.

Why does the “wonderful” climate of Los Angeles matter, when 14yr. kids are being assassinated by Mexican street gangs? People keep talking about traffic and weather; my children are the most important things in my life. I decide where I will live based on what is best for my kids, not my sun-tan. And the possibility of having by kid murdered by gangs supersedes everything else 10000x.
14 yr. old Jose Cruz Jr. was gunned down like an animal Feb. 8, 2008.
Jose Cruz Jr.
14 yr. Old Diana Tomas was assassinated with a bullet to the head, and left like an animal by a freeway sound wall on Dec 2, 2007. What kind of sick people would murder 14yr old girls.
