Boyd Screws Another Republican

We've talked before about how ineffective and useless the County Republican Party is, particularly under the leadership of Doug and Linda Boyd. They raise money from Republicans but in my view don't do anything worthwhile to get Republicans elected to office. When a Republican ran for Mayor - Walter Moore - they supported Democrat Jim Hahn. Of course they got some nice chump change from good old ex-Mayor Poopy.

Now that the Republican Party has a real chance to beat Rick Caruso's favorite you know what Maxine Waters, the Boyds and the LA County Dumbass Republicans can't manage to make it happen.

Homeless activist Ted Hayes, an African American, nationally known figure wants to seek the Republican nomination for Congress against Waters. Hayes is no usual dinosaur Republican - he's an effective, articulate, dreadlocked wearing, roller blading dude with real street cred. Hayes is probably the one person - Republican or otherwise - who could beat Waters.

In years past, the Republican Party Leadership in the County and State as well as the Republican National Committee had paid the filing fees for Republican Candidates in races where only one Republican candidate is running to avoid the embarrassment of not even fielding a candidate against a Democrat incumbent.

Because Ted Hayes is the only Republican who pulled papers to run in District 35, a request was made for his $1,600.00 filing fee to be paid by the Republican Party.

After submitting requests for help at the County level, State level and National level, Mr. Hayes contacted Los Angeles County Republican Party Chairman Linda Boyd and asked for help.

We support you Ted, but there will be no help with the filing fee” was the response.

Typical Linda Boyd bullshit.

I keep saying it - the Boyds have to go. When are you dumbass Republicans at the county party going to get a clue?

In the meantime if you want to help Ted Hayes with his filing fees, click here for more information.

The State GOP was $3 million in debt and the County GOP has no money because for about a year, Linda was getting herself a nice $5,000 a month paycheck for fundraising. The State GOP's County Executive Director program was ended in December 2007 and it looks like Francisco is seeking greener pastures.

More importantly, any candidate who files for office and thinks that the party will dump $1 million into his campaign and provide a cast of 1,000 volunteers has got to be smoking crack. The reality check is that if a GOP candidate wants money for his campaign, then he needs to raise it himself. If Ted Hayes hasn't raised the filing fee money, then how can one expect him to defeat Maxine Waters at the ballot box?

The Boyd's stand for all that is bad in the Republican Party in Los Angeles County.

They actually ended up with $35,000+ from the Hahn campaign funds, and make no mistake, that was paid to them PERSONALLY.

When I saw this, I canceled my membership in the Lincoln Club (did I mention that they obtained the endorsement of that Republcan stalwart group as well?) and stopped all donations to it and the County Republican Party.

I have given thousands of dollars in the past to both, but since that fiasco by the Boyds, I have not written a check and will not until they put that $35,000 in the County Republican Party Treasury and demonstrate that to the world, and then leave the leadership of both it and the Lincoln Clubs.

In the end, they have cost both millions and should be drummed out of the Party. You are too soft on them Sam.

I just sent Hayes $99.00 to avoid having to file stuff; others might do the same.

He deserves to challenge that bitch; she's had that seat way too long already.

Hey that's a great idea. I forgot if you only donate $99 the info doesn't have to appear. Ted Hayes has done more for the community then that bitch Maxine Waters idiot. People will post mean things about him but citywide he has support because he's not afraid to go against the politicans. He has the balls to fight for the people. Maxine is a psycho. She's a perfect example of how you can be a complete moron just like our council members and get elected. I'm donating to Ted.

The Republicans have been screwing themselves for decades in LA and in the nation and will soon disappear unless they stop they're reliance on reactionary and fear based tactics, a dependence on extreme right wing evangelical screwball preachers, Karl Rove type personal smear tactics, and a strange idolatry for supply side economics and Corporate Media Stars whose excessive lifestyles have eclipsed the Republicans of old who practiced and preached a conservative philosophy of smaller government, fiscal responsibility, individual rights, small town patriotism and fair play, and good sportsmanship whether one wins or loses.
The Eisenhower, Goldwater, Earl Warren, Bill Buckley, type of a more gentile time, Republicans who even if you disagreed completely with their politics would still consider them good guys who you could play a round of golf with and have a couple of cocktails and share a few jokes together, do some business with.

Now the Republicans have sunk to the low level of Ted Hayes, a hate motivated, self promoting, opportunistic clown of a man whose props include his homeless claim and a bad Bob Marley colored beaney with fake rasta dreadlocks.
He has as much a chance of defeating Maxine Waters as a snowball in hell.

Goldwater must be rolled over in his grave.

The Boyds could raise that money for Ted in a heartbeat -- and probably another $50,000 -- simply by sending an e-mail to their e-mail list announcing his candidacy, and inviting him to speak at one of the party's monthly meetings.

Experience indicates, however, that they won't lift a finger to help him.

You're right, Mayor... as always!!

Ted Hayes was enormously effective when he hung a muslim in effigy outside of the Culver City mosque!

Here's a picture of him in a reverent pose outside of the house of worship!

You're brilliant, Mayor Sam!

This man's unbridled psychotic hate makes him the perfect Republican standard-bearer.

Dumbass.

Good point Walter. The Boyds show that the Democrats don't have a lock on self-centered leaders. They don't do anything to help local Republicans elected, indeed their mission is to perpetuate themselves and the useless infrastructure of the party only to get paid lavishly and have a social life they probably wouldn't otherwise have.

A few folks have asked me to run for the County GOP Committee. If a few of you could help me (considering we have a few days left) get the nomination in order I'd be glad to raise hell in Montebello.

Hey dummy at 1:42 a.m.

The party has routinely helped candidates with filing fees and getting off the ground. Its their job to encourage and support fielding candidates in all races.

Why do we give them money if all their doing is paying the Boyds to elect Democrats to the Mayor's office and getting big salaries?

Seeding a candidate like Hayes particularly when there's a chance to win is the job of the county party.

However, the incompetence of the Boyds coupled with the fact the Republicans and Democrats have made "agreements" not to challenge each other in "their" districts is behind Hayes not getting the help. The only problem with that agreement is the stupid Republicans let the Dummycrats have a 2-1 advantage in number of seats.

There may be some racism or classism involved too in Ted's case. I am sure there are some in the party put off by a big, rasta, inline skating, dreadlocked Black man in colorful clothing even if he is preaching free enterprise, self sufficiency, limited government and for immigration reform.

I would think long and hard before I donated money to the Party on the state or local level. Why? At the recent convention, there was a woman who attempted to put a plank in the platform regarding women having the same rights and privilges as men. Mike Spence, the "big wheel" got up and babbled about how women shouldn't see front-line combat duty. This I can agree with, but there are so many other things that women should be on equal footing with men. Anyway, when it came time for a vote, Spence, both the Boyds and a whole slew of L.A. County Republicans voted NO. That alone should be reason to jettison the Boyds AND Mike Spence.

Women dont want to be 'equal' until Mike Spence can bear and carry a set of twins for nine months. Then he will know and be able to babble why he thinks women shouldnt see front-line combat duty.
Until he has have gone through a 34 hour delivery of twins his understanding of front-line combat, compared to birth, is a breeze.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but women want to be equal regardless of what Mike Spence says. Mike Spence is not the be-all-end-all of conservatism nor is he in touch with reality. His claim to fame is being on a school board, yet he knows nothing of being a single mom. He's the head of the CRA, but he couldn't find his head even if it was attached to his shoulders. Mike Spence wouldn't give birth to twins. He'd have a C-section. He might think he has a good grasp on the concept of the fact that the Federated Women are the backbone of the Republican Party and that they can be counted on, but in reality the man is a clueless chauvanist pig. Women know this. Let's see what Mike Spence says when the CFRW tells him and his ilk to go pound sand when its get-out-the-vote crunch time after publically and officially on the record declaring that they (CFRW) don't have the same rights and privileges as men. Except when it comes to donations; then all are created equal.

But the thing that is most distressing is that the Boyds stood up with him for this one. And in a most comical sort of way, calls from the County party go out to women in the various districts begging them to either run for office or for central committee. Believe me when I tell you that the women are riled up and pissed off and happily prepared to sit down on the job, especially when hit up with an appeal from Mike Spence, the Boyds and anyone else who had the brilliant idea to vote no on the proposed platform plank. And you can thank Mike Spence for that one.

Assume for the sake of argument that Hayes is not a good candidate for the office. That still leaves the question: what have the Boyds or the Republican Party of Los Angeles actually DONE to get ANYONE elected to local offices, or to state office or even Congress?

What ACTION are they taking to find and promote any OTHER candidate?

Sam, I hope you and other people will seize control of the Republican Party, kick out the Boyds, and use all that money to actually try improving the lives of people in L.A. County.

And, to whoever said I was a libertarian rather than a Republican, that's a pretty fair observation. But I'm actually more of an a-la-carte-arian: if someone has a good idea, I say let's use it, regardless whether they're a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Green, or whatever. I'm probably more of a populist than anything else.

I don't think the various labels mean much any more. I judge politicians more on the specific policies they propose, and on their character.

Take Villaraigosa, for example. I'm sure he calls himself a progressive. But look at his actions: he gives tax dollars not to the elderly or handicapped so they can rent a decent apartment, Instead, he hands millions to rich downtown developers and others who contribute to his campaign. Actions speak louder than words.

Higby, you honestly believe this guy has "a good shot at beating Maxine Waters?" You out of your mind? There may be reasons to dump the Boyds but not funding Hayes isn't one of them.

The guy actually makes good points about immigrants displacing the native homeless population, and about concerns about Muslim immigrants -- look what's happening in Europe. BUT he does it so over the top that it comes off racist and undermines the cause.
