City's 3200 library Internet terminals on the fritz

Disappointing tens of thousands of patrons for the second straight day, the City's 3200 Internet terminals in its 67 libraries were knocked offline sometime over the New Year's Holiday, and only a fraction of them in the Northeast region and at Central have returned to service.
One reference librarian told me, "No, they haven't told us what's going on, because we'd ask more questions about what's going on, and they don't like that."
One of the major problems is that whatever is causing the bug, each computer has to be re-loaded and re-booted individually from the terminal itself. Which means a small handful of crews are working at each branch library, and there is no estimated timeline for complete restoration of service.

Are we really surprised with a GM like Randi Levin in charge?
Her title is GM and Chief Technology Officer.

I guess Wet Spot will have to suspend his prodigious reading for a while, just when he was getting so good at spelling and third-grade grammar.

You can't blame this one on Randi Levin. The library completely controls their computer infrastucture. This may not have happened had Randi been in control of the Library's computer systems.

It's not just the library's computers that are having problems.
LAPD Records & Information Unit's computers were down for a month and a half last year.
R&I is where the police and prosecutors go to get prior arrest reports on criminal suspects/defendants.
