Jill Stewart, "Micro-editing" the "Weekly of Record" into a afterthought.
When Jill Stewart was named editor at the LA Weekly, many were hopeful that she would bring an objective "edge" to political reporting in the city. But it is becoming evident that the "Micro-editing" of Stewart is driving away cutting-edge reporters that regale readers with long dissertations on the follies and miss-adventures of the "Political Elites".
David Zahniser has gone on to the "OLD GREY HAG ON SPRING STREET". The jury is still out whether he is "dulling" under the "PR" editing at the Times.
Marc Cooper is now parlaying his leftist rants into a gig at the Huffington Post.
Daniel Hernandez is off to Mexico to work on a "novella". Maybe he will include some "MAP'S" characters.
Judith Lewis will be writing on the environment elsewhere.
Another "Editor Stewart" escapee, Jeffery Anderson, has a great cover article in the City Beat, linked below, Anderson follows up on Bell Gardens Political Bad Boy, Mario Beltran. He details his links to some of the dubious characters in Southeastern Los Angeles, and more important, the links to the Los Angeles political community. Lets just say that Indicted Commissioner, Steve Carmona is mentioned.
Anderson also does a great job in highlighting the "Money Streams" that link the likes of Huizar, Villaraigosa, Roybal-Allard,Nunez, "MINI NUNEZ, DE LEON" and Cedillo to shady towing companies that have drawn the ire of the "Immigrant Community", can one sense hypocrisy here ?
Sadly, for the former fans of the "WEEKLY OF RECORD" the days of scanning the Weekly's webpage for the latest articles on the political antics of the elites, have meet its end at the point of the "MICRO-EDITING KNIFE" of Jill Stewart. Good for City Beat To give refuge to Anderson's investigated reporting.

Getting leftie Hernandez to go to Mexico is almost enough to make up for her hiring other wackos like dogg to front for articles she and her political operatives write.
Despite that much-dissed mishap, she has also stood up for conservative and business values and people in the face of left-wing bias. Which is all that the Weekly is most of the time. But when they don't pay their writers anything more than a few token bucks, what can they expect?

My personal experience with Jill is that no matter what the story is, you have no way of knowing how she really feels. Isn't that how it should be with reporters?
I do not think she is a left wing liberal nor is she a crazy right wing. She has sided with both on many occasions.

Jill Stewart must be doing SOMETHING right, as it seems that all of these blogs carry messages asserting false presumptions that "everyone" is leaving the LA Weekly because of Jill.
I know Judith Lewis personally, and she has told me that Jill was the first editor who really challenged her, and Jill was NOT the reason she was leaving, but one of the few reasons for considering staying.

Jill is a Libertarian, so that confuses some people who want everything to fit into right wing and left wing boxes.

I didn't read the LA Weekly before Jill Stewart arrived. Now I do (semi-regularly at least).

Ick. Libertarians are worse than Republicans. Jill is part of a third party that many of us do. Unfortunately, it doesn't exist yet. We like to call it Progressive, meaning Logical. Too bad the Dems stole the Progressive name for us because progressive is not a word to describe the Dems I know.

If you accuse Mark Cooper of lefist rants you don't know how to read. Ok, you don't know how to read.
I read him in the Weekly precisely because his rants are so unpredictable. he's just as likely to trash a leftist as he is to take on right-wing ham-brains of the sort that populate Mayor Sam's digs. Man you guys are dense!
