Get LA Moving Again
Residents on the Eastside are looking forward to the completion of the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension, effectively connecting communities such as Boyle Heights and East LA to the rest of the city.
In the meantime folks on the Westside crammed on buses might just want to rue the name of Congressman Henry Waxman who twenty years ago banned funding for the Red Line extension to the Westside.
However funding approved today by the California Transportation Commission helps to move closer to reality extending the Expo Line from its planned Culver City terminus to Santa Monica.
And Zach Behrens is one of the few guys who is actually brave enough to say what a joke the Orange Line is.

Ah, where's the part about the Orange line being jocose? Unless you mean that Beltway insiders know NOTHING?

Sam is talking about how all the pols get woodies when they think of BRT as easy transit pork. That is a joke.

Henry Waxman only banned funding for the mass transit line 20 years ago because Zev Y, then CM for CD5, DEMANDED THAT HE DO SO. There was a methane gas leak under the Ross Store on Fairfax (a store there still today), and bowing to pressure from local residents, Zev secured through Waxman a banning of transit funds for L A.
Another case of dangerous NIMBYism, and what a pandering CM can do to harm a whole city for generations.
Do your research, Mayor Sam.

Never underestimate the ability of politicians to fixate on doing things in a half-assed manner on the cheap because they're scared to death of asking voters to pony up to do them right.

Zev is famous for rowing out to the middle of the lake, throwing away the oars and then complaining that there is nothing that he can do to help the situation.
But, to ZD, he is the soul of reason and decency, since he once gave him a pet on the head and said "Good dog".
But to those of us who know him, he is a self promoting, insideous bureaucrat, who just happens to be marginally more clever than the other rascals with whom he sits on the BOS.
Welcome to LA County.

"...might just want to rue the name of Congressman Henry Waxman"?!
Mayor Duh might just want to pick up a dictionary now and then:
rue /ru/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[roo] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation, verb, rued, ru·ing, noun
–verb (used with object) 1. to feel sorrow over; repent of; regret bitterly: to rue the loss of opportunities.
2. to wish that (something) had never been done, taken place, etc.: I rue the day he was born.
–verb (used without object) 3. to feel sorrow, repentance, or regret.
Dumbass.

That line to East L.A. was originally supposed to be a subway line, not light rail. But Zev had that banned when he pushed Prop A or C, one of those two letters, a county measure to ban funding for future subway construction.
East L.A. and Boyle Heights was home to Congressman Edward Roybal, a throwback to Latino leaders with integrity. After 30 years in Congress, Roybal was able to get the funding needed to start the L.A. Subway. The first line was to be to the eastside. But sadly, Roybal passed away before he could see the realization of his work - more than a decade after construction began on the subway.
Zev's motivation was to get Alatorre, then Chair of MTA to stop the feeding frenzie at the public trough by all of his buddies clamoring to get their hands on those billions. Most of the people making out with the money later helped Antonio get elected with an unending supply of funding.
Zev stopped Alatorre by killing public train transit in East L.A. but the pigs at the trough only changed by name and affiliation. After this it was Gloria Molina's buddies - including her husband - who were milking the public treasury.
So East L.A. ends up with no subway but the connected make out with fortunes. Billions of dollars were squandered and to date no extensive investigations. If you want to analyze corrupt politics in East L.A. it starts and ends at MTA.

Speaking of MOVING AGAIN, no article on Robert Urteaga "moving" from CD 14 to Montebello to run for city council? Talk about carpetbagging!

12:17pm,
Is the issue that someone is moving from one area to another to run for office; or the fact that no one is covering it? Because those are two separate issues.
If the issue is the move itself for political office (as opposed to lack of coverage)...why don't you just post the story yourself right here for all to see instead of simply mentioning how no one is covering it.
Maybe it's not the most top of mind issue in the city, although that doesn't mean it isn't important.

It really is more than absurd that Zev of all people has recently come out as leading "a people's revolution" to stop development until there is infrastructure to support it, when if it weren't for him, there would be a subway by now. Twenty years ago, costs and population were so much lower, it would have been far cheaper to build it (and as poster says, the billions in funds WERE there just squandered, since Zev did not want his political opponents to get their hands on it, but they did anyway, for personal gain). Not to clear Alatorre: he and his cronies formed all kinds of business to provide everything from computer software for school inventory systems (which didn't work, but then the current one doesn't seem too good either), to trash collection and building-related. Word is that everyone knew what he was up to, but he had too much dirt on everyone else to stop him, but finally he left office after doing enough damage. However, this in no way absolves Zev from trying to do the right thing for the city. Why didn't he do some sort of public grandstanding then to get a subway, appealing to public demand for it, instead of grandstanding to stop it?
It's hard to believe a city official would actually beg Washington to NOT give us money for mass transit. Plus, if we'd been in the money pipeline all along, it wouldn't be such a push to elbow into that money now against other cities that have been getting it.
With so many fewer people and gridlock, the disruption during building the thing would have been much less, too. Of course, the NIMBY's were very active then, too, they have always prevented any slight disruption to their "normal" lives, no ability to think of the future. Poster's idea of having someone do a historical investigation of the MTA seems like a good one. Zev just happens to control the MTA now. Could that be another reason he has suddenly seen the light when it comes to getting funding for the subway and railline to the sea? But in the process he is trying to blame everyone else, from the Mayor to the feds, so it's important people know what's going on with our transit funds.

Robert Urteaga is the the man, and yes he is going to win in montebello guaranteed!!!!!
Anonymous said:
Robert Urteaga? The man?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh that's a good one (wipes tear).
Anyway, yes, I have heard too that Robby U has carpetbagged from CD14 to Montebello. His problem is that his name is pretty unique. There are records of him in CD14 from a short time ago.
Montebello is a protective city. It's voters need someone who genuinely lived there, and has been committed to Montebello.
Robert Urteaga did not live in Montebello when he worked for Hertzberg, because as soon as Bob won, Robert had a job waiting...
Robert Urteaga did not live in Montebello when he worked for Nick Pacheco, because as soon as Nick won, Robert had a job waiting.
Now Robert Urteaga claims he lives in Montebello, because, well, he thinks he has a job waiting.
Doesn't the city deserve more than an unemployed political hack?
The council is not a prize for someone with nowhere else to go.

i wonder if people will get that under urteaga's leadership, huggy bear did not win, pacheco did not win, etc.

WHAT TEARS OF JOY!

Didn't Urteaga run Pacheco's name into the ground?
To the tune of 30 point lead to 30 point loss?
Montebello? He's not qualified to run a bath house in West Hollywood!
Anonymous said:
I'm playing catch-up here, but are you guys saying that Robert Urtuega is Antonio Watch?
And as a former campaign strategist for both Bob Hertzberg and Pacheco, that's why he has it in for Antonio the Mayor and anyone associated with him? Because the Mayor dumped Hertzberg seeing the writing on the wall, and Pacheco lost to the Mayor's boy Huizar? WAS Huizar backed by the Mayor?
All these Latino politics are hard to follow.

That's odd, I never heard of a city named "Montebello Guaranteed." Is that city somewhere in New Mexico?
Anonymous said:
Three principles:
-Urteaga is running against two respected incumbents. He is far, far from a guarantee.
-The posters saying so are more than likely Urteaga himself.
-And whomever they are, their grammar, syntax, and inability to proofread is truly tragic. "With friends like these..."

Dan Morain of the LA Times has an interesting character study of Obama today, that makes him look like he could teach the crooks in CD14 a thing or two about getting your pals to help you out in your investments.
Seems when he and his wife bought a house a couple years back, there was a little bit of land next to it that could maybe have been sold to someone to build a small house next to them and spoil their privacy. So a friend of theirs helpfully bought it, sold enough of a slice of it to Obama for a few bucks that made it impossible to build on the remainder, and they ate the cost.
When asked about it, Obama shrugs and says, Gee, golly, don't know what I was thinking. But to read the rest of the story, he's anything but naive. As ambitious and backstabbing as they come, and maybe not too smart about the world but mired in corrupt Chicago politics as usual.
Makes our guys look like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

Interesting story on the guy from Redondo Beach who had work done on his house without a permit and may being going to jail. Didn't Huizar and Molina do the same thing? They both had work done at their homes without permits..
This is really intestesting how the Mayor all of a sudden is changing his tune.
.....The mayor supports the Police Department's right and responsibility to enforce the law against unlicensed and uninsured drivers," spokesman Matt Szabo said. "He's comfortable with the law as it stands."
One traffic division commander noted in a memo this week that unlicensed drivers and those driving with suspended licenses accounted for 46% of hit-and-run arrests in the LAPD's West Division in 2006.

As for Urteaga, let him speak for himself. I haven't seen him post here... is he awaiting some sort of engraved invitation?

What a mess the eastside rail line has created. Those of you on the westside come and take a look. It's a mess. The traffic isn't as bad on this side. Thanks to whoever signed off on it.
Anonymous said:
I guess they should have figured out a way to put in a rail line without digging anything up. Like...? Another reason to "rue" Zev and his minion Waxman for preventing this from happening 20 years ago, when the population was about half. And then the Mexicans could have had more of an extensive line available, would that have taken the illegals out from behind deadly hit-and-runs? Between the rail line and actual immigration enforcement 20 years ago, we'd have been so much better off. Thanks for shinola, Zev and Waxman.

Robert Urteaga hasn't lived in Montebello since he was a kid. He's lived the last several years on Elgin Street right off of Avenue 64 in Los Angeles. He's a Los Angeles political consultant and has no idea on what's going on in Montebello. I hope the people of Montebello don't fall for this shark. He will bring dirty L.A. politics to your little city.
Anonymous said:
Urteaga is a puppet for the Calderons. Ron pulled his strings as Urteaga walked in Montebello with a Thomas Guide and a handheld GPS passing out business cards like the kind you get printed free on the internet. Talk about a baby in wolf's clothing! Clueless about the issues in Montebello, Urteaga has to bite off of the Mayor's accomplishments for material for his campaign mailers. And what the hell is ZERO tolerance for Graffiti, Drugs and Gangs. What a miracle working legend in his own mind! Does he also walk on water? “Yes, he does” replies Ronny C., “because I pay for him to do that”.
So Bobby Boy, how does one financially support his mother when he has 4 different jobs and only 31 years of age? Career hoping or can’t cut it in the LA politics?
Anonymous said:
I hope the people in Montebello see what is written here. Robert Urteaga is nothing but a L.A. political consultant that get's his jobs from people who's campaigns he works on. He has no idea of what's going on in Montebello and probably doesn't care. He's looking for the big payday! He will put together generic political mail pieces and points that he will probably copy from the mayor or councilman he is running against. Fill it full of pictures of himself and try and sweet talk the Montebello voters. But, he will also blanket the people of Montebello with dirty smear campaigns against the mayor and councilman, like he did against Huizar. And it will be paid for by his L.A. political power broker friends. He is going to owe a lot of people big money. I wonder how he will repay them???

I was in a restaurant over the weekend and who do I notice in the booth next to mine? None other than Robert Urteaga! He's talking to 2 guys and he tells them that he's got the Montebello city council election in the bag. And then he tells them that's just the beginning. He's going to run for the state assembly seat in Montebello's district next year! His exact words to these guys,"I don't f****** care about the city council seat, I'm going to do an Antonio and move up to Sacramento". I feel sorry for those people in Montebello, but now he's their headache!
