Spin Lessons for the Mayor
If you're a politician in trouble and you've been accused of being a bad boy, how do you turn around your opponents' charges? The following are some Techniques for Truth Suppression by David Martin, author of America's Dreyfus Affair:Wax indignant. This is also known as the "how dare you?" gambit.
Characterize the charges as "rumors" or, better yet, "wild rumors." If, in spite of the news blackout, the public is still able to learn about the suspicious facts, it can only be through "rumors."
Call the skeptics names like "conspiracy theorist," "nut," "ranter," "kook," "crackpot," and of course, "rumor monger." You must then carefully avoid fair and open debate with any of the people you have thus maligned.
Impugn motives. Attempt to marginalize the critics by suggesting strongly that they are not really interested in the truth but are simply pursuing a partisan political agenda or are out to make money.
Come half-clean. This is also known as "confession and avoidance" or "taking the limited hang-out route." This way, you create the impression of candor and honesty while you admit only to relatively harmless, less-than-criminal "mistakes." This stratagem often requires the embrace of a fall-back position quite different from the one originally taken.
Change the subject. This technique includes creating and/or reporting a distraction.

Altough I'm no fan of the Mayor, I must say it was quite impressive the way he has handled himself the first two days back in the limelight...and, he is not hiding but taking whatever heat the press wants to put on him...he was elected to govern and that is what he intends to do...he acknowledges the roll the press and understands why they are asking the questions re his personal life...and, most importantly, he looks comfortable again...confident...secure...not like someone on the run, afraid to face the music...contrast the Mayor's approach with Rocky's approach...he is still very much avoiding facing the music and, quite obviously, appears shaken with no confidence in his words or manner...whether you like a politician or not, most of us will judge a politician on their governing abilities and how they reach to a stessful situation...do they pick themselves up after being knocked down and get back in the game...or do they grovel and hide...A plus to the Mayor for his first two days back in the game...By the way, I do not think the Mayor is taking this City in the right direction with his policies and you can bet your bottom dollar most of these policies decision involve the expediture of big dollars by construction companies, private industry...in other words, donors to his gubinatorial campaign..but, hats off to him for having the fortitude to get up off ground and move forward...

Ha Ha! NO - he intends to duck, spin and obfuscate ... follow the standard pattern! He intends to continue "business as usual" and try to pull himself out with more of his usual photo-op activity!

Please ducking and hiding is what Antonio is good at. He learned it in the barrio running from other gang bangers. Right after the affair with Mirthala came out both of them ran like coach roaches for 4 days. Now Antonio's people are telling the media that he will not answer any questions about personal matters. Really shows what a stand up man he is or should I say mouse.
The Southwest Voter Registration Latino dinner is July 13th. I hear Latina women will boo Antonio if he shows up. This is the corrupt organization Antonio Gonzales runs to make money. This is the dinner Antonio had the nerve to show up in 2005 with Mirthala. This relationship goes further back then the media is reporting.

The only trouble with Antonio is he fathered two children out of wedlock; he cheated on his wife more than once; he is immoral, unethical and has a lack of character. Other than that, he is a great guy.
He wants us to ignore his personal life because he says it is his private business. There is a saying: "Look at what a man has done to see what he will do." Character does count, even if Antonio thinks it doesn't matter.

Journalistic objectivity
According to the Daily News poll, the majority of voters feel that Mirthala Salinas should be fired. Apparently the voters feel her employer should punish her for her sin as "the other woman" of a married celebrity (which is all her paramour is, by the way).
But how about this scenario: Remember the journalistic photographer by the name of Linda Eastman? She was assigned to Paul McCartney. Should she have been fired? Was there lost journalistic objectivity? Actually, how much objectivity is there to begin with when celebrities are celebrated? I would kind of like to find out what Mirthala's employer thinks.
