CAN COUNCILMEMBERS BACK NON-PROFITS? Is THIS one Garcetti's?
It's called, "The Neighborhood Land Trust", and I think it is Eric Garcetti's non-profit. And he is proud to announce that his partner, Amy, is on the board. And the executive director is TSILAH BURMAN:
Tsilah Burman currently serves as the Executive Director of the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust (LANLT), an independent non-profit organization that facilitates the creation of pocket parks and community gardens in underserved neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles. Prior to joining LANLT, Ms. Burman served as Executive Director of New Schools Better Neighborhoods, a non-profit organization which advocates for the joint use of neighborhood-centered schools. Additionally, she spent 17 years of her career in commercial real estate with a focus on research, marketing, and investment.
[ZD was no fan of "New School's..." David Abel's participation on the Soberoff oversight committee when Mayor Richard Riorend tried to pull the same shadiness on LAUSD that he is now sending Villgrossa to pull now. And interesting they bring in a commercial real estate "marketing and investment" expert to run a "Parks and Gardens" non-profit organization. How about someone with experience with Park and Garden development?]
A source tells Zuma Dogg that Eric Garcetti was proud to announce during a public meeting that the money used for this start-up was from $2 million extra revenue from the sale of some LA Farmer's Market.
NLT: The Neighborhood Land Trust had its first annual fundraiser. My partner Amy Wakeland is on the board of the organization, which grew out of a task force that I convened with Councilmember Ed Reyes, the mayor's office, the City Attorney, and others, in response to community organizing around the lack of green space in many of the poorest parts of the city. CM Greuel is among the "supporters". -EG
SO IF THIS IS A COUNCILMEMBER-BACKED NON-PROFIT, WHAT DO YOU THINK? DO WE NEED SOME NEW LAWS? ALSO: LA Best's, backed by "The Broadfather" with a CM's husband sitting on the board. And all the other stuff like this that ZD has been concerned with?
This non-profit stuff is one of the many ways politicians, and the corporations and billionaires who back them, end up with inappropriately excessive amounts of public money.

I have no knowledge of this particular non-profit, but, Zuma, many non-profits do really good work around the City and I see nothing wrong with Councilmembers or their partners supporting them.
The objective/goal of this non-profit seems very laudable. What's the problem?

OK SO DUDE, YOU'RE RECALLING ROCKY, BUT YOU WON'T TOUCH BACA????
THIS IS A SET UP.
Could Paris Hilton lead to Lee Baca's downfall? She might, if Andrew Aherling has his way. "A former Los Angeles County employee launched a campaign Monday to recall Sheriff Lee Baca, citing last week's early release of Paris Hilton as an example of gross mismanagement of the nation's largest Sheriff's Department," report LAT's Stuart Pfeifer and Jack Leonard.
"Andrew Ahlering conceded that recalling Baca would be costly and time-consuming but said the public frenzy about Hilton's release could generate the necessary interest. He discussed the recall drive live on CNN Headline News and has been interviewed by half a dozen local television and radio stations."

Recall move against Baca
Andrew Ahlering, a fringe candidate for the Board of Supervisors last year who spent 23 days in jail after being accused of disrupting a Supes meeting — and who tried to auction a date with himself on eBay — has managed to get on CNN with his petition against Sheriff Lee Baca. The Times says Ahlering pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor and was placed on probation and ordered to stay away from board meetings. LAT, DN

It is tragic that one of the largest cities in the world has such a limited number of qualified people that we can elect as leaders. Why are we not valuing ethics in our leaders? Don't we want that in our spouse, our friends, our family? If we put one person in charge of our family, or our company, or our church, or our bank, what would our most important qualities be? Mine would be honesty and ethical behavior?
We need a new mayor.

normally i respect your work but in this case i say that you should leave people alone if they are willing to support a positive cause.
that's just my opinion.

The worst thing I can think of is how we are the second largest city in the Country and yet Mayor Antonio Villar seems to be able to find qualified talent for Major City Departments such as the Airports or City Planning. Not only is he afraid people will find out about his unethic and immoral behaviour but he seems to be afraid to help any local experts get a major position in his administration. He is afraid of the competition.

The non-profit game is the saddest scheme developed by these unethical politicians.
The politicians have found a method of funneling money, our taxpayer money, to their favorite non-profit organizations then these organizations funnel the money right back as campaign contributions by their board members and employees.
Remember how Laura Chick found all those missing millions that belonged to the Department of Recreation and Parks.
Well the lastest scheme is to have the City Parks concessions and activities turned over to non-profits funded by government.
Guess where that money is headed, surely not to the people. It is going to go right back to the people who have written legislation allowing this to happen:
Senator Alex Padilla, Senator Gil Cedillo, Assemblyperson Fabian Nunez, Assemblyperson Jackie Goldberg,Councilman Ed Reyes, Councilman Richard Alarcon so on and so on you get the drift.
There is no need for any non-profits to take over any administration duties of any functions of the city. Besides where is the tenent of Civil Servent Protection for those employees working for these non-profits.
Secret, look to see who Ex-Councilman and Junkie Mike Hernandez is consulting for and you will find the money trail.
