Both Mayor Villaraigosa and a certain Planning Commissioner emphatically deny relationship rumors, and I say they are to be believed. The extent to which the Mayor has already damaged his image is up for debate, but I think it would be nearly impossible for him to recover from another extramarital affair (especially one involving a high-level political appointment), after categorically denying it with a "definitive, absolute no."
So, he's either placing his entire political career on the line to avoid a second scandal in as many weeks, or he is telling the truth. I believe the latter and would like to see the lady in question left alone. She doesn't deserve this.

In other news today, City Attorney heir apparent Jack Weiss has given us a sneak preview of what to expect when he takes office. Weiss is calling for the creation of a separate fund for what he sees as inevitable city payouts resulting from the MacArthur Park police skirmish. Gee, aren't you glad we'll be able to count on City Attorney Weiss to fight on our behalf against frivolous lawsuits and excessive payouts?
Speaking of the City Attorney, Rocky must be loving his extended vacation. Don't get too comfy, bad boy. Antonio's hit men may have run out of ammunition, but we haven't forgotten about you—figuratively speaking, of course.

Maybe the rumor about AV and SK is true but Kay realizes she'd be in big trouble if she admitted to it because she's a commissioner. They'd both want to keep that quiet for their own personal reasons. MS on the other hand seems to have wanted to out the Mayor. She just didn't bother to realize the negative consequences it would have on her career. Pure stupidity.
7:17, I would agree with you if I believed for a minute that such a secret could be kept. In the current climate, I just don't see that as possible.
If you want to keep debating it, risk sounding as stupid and dense as Jon and Ken did on their show today.

Actually, the rumor started last year in a Korean newspaper. This blog just picked it up. Read Kay's own statement.

I never fully bought the particular rumors that are the subject of this post anyway. Unlike ZD, I still, however, refuse to believe that the Mayor only had one girl on the side. I have no personal knowledge at all, I just don't buy that he had only one. I will buy that the mayor's camp thinks it's contained and the lid has been put back on.
I hope that, if I'm right, it doesn't stay under wraps. But it will if those who wish the mayor to get his full comeuppance are as reckless as they have been the last few days in perpetuating unfounded rumors in an echo chamber.
The actual, verifiable truth should be damning enough.
It is difficult to "risk" being stupid and dense when you are as continually and consciously as stupid and dense as John & Ken.
Recently saw them lie about their listenership on KNBC the other day. Somehow they managed to add an extra 200,000 listeners to their stats.

I AM basing what I present on what I have heard (after being privilidged to being able to "kick the tires" on the mayor's spin/position on the issue). I AGREE WITH YOU COMPLETELY...AND FEEL THE EXACT SAME WAY YOU FEEL...Take out the words, "unlike ZD"...and I hope you don't mind if I post that under MY name on the main thread. Besides that...It ain't ONE good decision...it's the fact that I didn't get tripped up in the smoke and mirrors on this one and i AM proud that i didn't get pulled offsides as a journalist by the ZD in me. AND YES...it's scary to have my credibility tied into the shady mayor...so let's just say, i feel the political machine feels they got this one contained. SO THAT'S THE REALITY WE WILL BE DEALING WITH FOR ALL FUTURE STRATEGIES...and something else i am proud of...i didn't just sit back and say nothing...i would have liked to..but luckily the same thing that compels me to post the anti-mayor stuff...compelled me to post this stuff, too.

Antonio Villaraigosa- Fixing LA's Potholes
A few days ago, word leaked out of City Hall in Los Angeles that embattled mayor, Tony Villaraigosa was planning a series of initiatives to demonstrate that he was fully engaged in the business of running the nation's 2nd largest city in spite of the scandal surrounding his affair with Telemundo reporter, Mirthala Salinas. On Monday, July 9, the mayor reemerged in the public spotlight but not in the way he envisioned.
Yesterday (July 9) His Honor appeared in Eagle Rock (an LA neighborhood) to announce his great "pothole initiative". As the mayor attempted to describe the filling of 300,000 of the city's potholes, he was stunned to learn that no one cared. Instead, the mayor was inundated with questions about Salinas, which he proceeded to deflect. Today, he appeared in Chinatown to announce a summer jobs program, but once again, reporters only wanted to ask about Salinas and the mayor's love life.
In addition, a new name has surfaced in connection with Villaraigosa. Reporters are now asking about his relationship with Sabrina Kay, a Korean-American fashion designer that Villaraigosa had appointed to the LA City Planning Commission and who had accompanied the mayor on a junket to Korea. Villaraigosa has denied any improper relationship, and Ms Kay has issued a statement on her website vehemently denying reports, which had originated in a Korean-language tabloid.
As for the other embattled LA official, Rocky Delgadillo, it appears that at least one group is about to start a recall initiative against the City Attorney if he does not resign. Stay tuned-but don't hold your breath.
By the way, just as a footnote: One of the questions raised by the Villaraigosa scandal is the manner in which the news media has chosen to cover-or not cover the story. Example: This week, it was revealed that one of the names in the "little black book" of the so-called DC Madame, was none other than David Vitter, Republican Senator from Louisiana. Vitter also happens to be the southern regional campaign chairman for Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign. CNN's Wolf Blitzer wasted no time in asking Giuliani if Vitter will remain in the campaign. Meanwhile, Villaraigosa is the National Co-Chairman of Hillary Clinton's campaign.
Question: Has anybody asked-or will they ask Ms Clinton about Villaraigosa's remaining as Co-Chair?

Folks, if you throw around names willy-nilly you and the blog will lose credibility rather quickly.
So let's see if we can clean up a few things.
First we read that AV was also havng an affair with a Korean developer. Somebody on this blog guessed that it was Tina Choi who serves on one of the area planning commmissions, who isn't a developer, but who may represent some in her business. It was probably the first name that popped into his or her mind.
But quickly the focus shifted to Sabrina Kay as the person who was the "Korean developer."
There was a reason for Sabrina Kay's name to pop up. During AV's Asia trip in the Fall, a newspaper in Korea called the Sunday Journal wrote a piece about SK and him. In it they spoke about a possible affair. That led to the rumor being repeated in K-town papers, and it generated lots of whispering in K-town. Much later, it ended up on the blogs. The story is available on the Journal's website. You have to dig for it. The story is in Korean. Depending upon your Korean reading skills you might have read this and felt that SK was a developer. Her Fremont Private Investment provides venture capital, some of which could have easily gone to developers.
If you are one of those who doesn't like the Mayor, it's much better to just have one or two legitimate pieces of ammunition, than to have one or two real ones and seven bogus ones.
Let me just say this because right now I can't say more just yet.
I never said alleged woman #2 is Sabrina. I never said alleged woman #2 was anyone who potentially COULD be Sabrina. That came from readers.
But what I did say and think this is where the wiggle room is for the Mayor is that according to a person who is an alleged girlfriend of a City Council member, alleged girlfriend #2 - a Korean DEVELOPER (not fashionista) - was outed by Mirthala herself.
Now take it with a grain of salt and maybe this person is lying about being a girlfriend, having inside information, etc. - I don't know.
I do agree that it would be pretty stupid for the mayor to say he didn't have sex with that woman or any woman and then we find out about it. But like a reader said Bill Clinton had the same notion.
The only difference here may be that the local media and bloggers may not have the intestinal foritude that Matt Drudge and Newsweek had in investigating Clinton. And Rocky is no Ken Starr. So perhaps that is what Team Villaraigosa is banking on. Deny, deny, deny and you people will feel so dirty you'll back off.
On the other hand he could be telling the truth. I guess I wouldn't have such a hard time believing him if he didn't have a track record of being less than honest.

958 - Fair enough but often where there is smoke there is fire. It was the same thing with a) the divorce rumors and b) the Mirthala rumors. Why do we have to accept that Antonio is all of a sudden being honest now.
Like I said, Sabrina doesn't entirely fit what the Council member's girlfriend said. That doesn't mean anything didn't happen. And just because a bunch of dums dums post it here that doesn't make it true either.
I just remain skeptical all around.
And it isn't interesting that this stuff all popped up as the Rocky cycle wore down.
With rumors that Baca and Villaraigosa were leaking the Rocky stuff, its possible Rocky wanted revenge.

I personally (with no proof whatsoever) do still think there's there there regarding girlfriend 2... 3 ... 4 ... 8 (rotated 90 degrees), but with all due respect, Mayor Sam, I think in retrospect you should have insisted in having the "Council Member's girlfriend" drop a name to you (whether you chose to disclose it or not) before your post and then letting the commenters go to town.
Why jump before looking and hurt someone (or more than one) who's done nothing wrong (or at least hasn't done what he or she is accused of)?

There are WEISS recall signs all over his district. One I saw yesterday says "Weiss doesn't care about traffic on a main street where thousands of cars by everyday. Weiss Ass is a joke and will never succeed Rocky. I don't think Rocky has to worry cause he won't be recalled. Hey, what Antonio did to his wife and kids is much worst. Now he wants to focus on his job. Someone should tell him he should have done that from the get go. Hasn't he heard of multi-tasking? We know that in 94, Big Love (reputedly) had an affair with his best friend's wife. The guy was also his campaign manager. Mrs. V was undergoing chemo at the time. They split briefly.
We also know: Big Love lied about the split now from Corrina (I lost weight and haven't had time to get my ring resized) and not living with her (we still live together) as well as Mirthala.
We also know Big Love has a pattern of trips away from home to hook up with various women: it's what he did in 94.
He was with Kay in South Korea, a trip which seemed focused on promoting her fashions (he wore some in one of her fashion shows). He later appointed her City Commissioner. Her qualifications for this post other than possibly having sex with Mayor elude most people.
There are allegations he had LAPD transfer some hottie female officer to his protective detail so she could be his girlfriend. And that various hottie female lobbyists traded sex for favors, some of which included being appointed to City positions.
Big Love has lots of enemies: Rocky (who probably returned the leak-favors and would love the Summer of Love to continue driving his stuff off the front pages), soon-to-be-ex Corrina, his ex-buddy who's wife Big Love had an affair with, and probably lots of people in the LAPD.
If Big Love and his buddies think this is over, think again. LAT may deep-six the story, but Leno and the tabloids won't. Paris is in seclusion, Britney and Lindsay semi-sane, and along comes Big Love with lots of juicy stories. Tab reporters unlike mainstream ones actually dig for stories. I'm sure Kay will be all over the tabloids. With Yucks every night from Leno.
