Antonio's New Girlfriend Outed?

I don't blog much on weekends but this stuff just doesn't stop coming.

After we disclosed a tip that claimed the Mayor had yet another girlfriend, this time a Korean "developer," the blogopshere fired up to try to out the alleged individual. This time the usual wags, a blogger, another blogger and some Sister City readers are all pointing their finger at an individual who is not a developer but a fashion designer and City Planning Commissioner who accompanied the Mayor on his Asian junket some months back (you can still buy Mayor Villaraigosa travel gear here by the way).

As we mentioned yesterday, it was the relationship with this new woman that led the Mayor's admitted squeeze - benched television reporter Mirthala Salinas - to rat out the Mayor and tip off the media to their own relationship. We have also been told that Salinas contacted the Mayor's soon to be ex-wife Corina Raigosa and commiserated on the topic of being dumped by Antonio.

By the way, while this whole Tony Villar Summer of Love has been going on our eyeballs have been easily diverted from the antics of Rocky Delgadillo, the City Council, Chief Bratton, etc. They do not need to assume the Sister City has given them a pass.

And speaking of Rocky Delgadillo, former staffers for the Mayor are telling us that Councilman Villaraigosa allegedly regularly used his Council staff during his 2005 Mayoral campaign for personal errands.

In other news...

Pundits debate the effect of the affair(s) on the Mayor's future career over at the LA Times. Some think it could damage the Presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton.

A Hispanic, pro-MECHA writer from El Paso is disgusted with the Mayor and his infidelity as well as the Mayor overlooking fellow Hispanic Bill Richardson's Presidential campaign.

Apparently the Mayor failed to show up to the opening of Hillary Clinton's Los Angeles headquarters today. Odd given not only his close relationship with the Clintons but that Antonio is one of the National Chairs of Hillary's campaign.

Some are speculating the Mayor any day now will enter into spiritual "rehab" with Cardinal Roger Mahoney a la Jesse Jackson and Bill Clinton following the Lewinsky scandal. Yea we know how that turned out for Jesse later on.

And finally, the idea of a Bloomberg-Villaraigosa (two biggest city Mayors in US) Presidential ticket is ridiculous; still the LA Business Journal decided to waste some ink or at least bytes on it. By the way folks I know the MSM isn't really on top of these things lately but the California Gubenatorial election is in 2010, not 2009.

It's just a bizarre spectacle: a mob of mostly anti-Mexican (some virulantly so), many anti-semitic, holier-than-thou clowns who actually are acting out of jealousy that just six months ago, the Mayor was called "the teflon man" and a national figure, and they can now have a chance to try to bring him down to size -- all the while, leading and speaking on behalf of the Mexicans whose moralities, Catholic values and sexist ideologies, and openness that they "are thinking like Mexicans, this is reconquest of Aztlan," they detest.

Not defending the Salinas woman or, if it's true, the Korean -- these are conflicts of interest w/ their jobs, as for the Mayor. And he does need to clean up his act if he wants to be a public figure. Sadly for him, what is "cool" for George Clooney or virtually every man in Hollywood, is not "hot" for a politician, and his "rock star" status may have confused him. BUT the same visibility and willingness to get out there and take the heat every day makes him potentially a strong, dynamic mayor. I'd sure like to see the coming months devoted to that sort of coverage.

Villaraigosa's troubles are only beginning. Maybe now the news media will begin looking into the name-changing. Antonio maintains it was the result of his 1987 wedding to Corina. But check the records. Court records show that the name change didn't take place until 1988. Why? Check our Antonio's credit reports pre-Corina. His credit was worse than Angentina's. The story circulating that time was that Antonio was using th name-change as a ploy to generate a new credit record -- or at least to confuse the TRW computers enough by challenges to the existing record. In effect, the name-change was nothing more than using Corina for a credit scam.

This is all very sad for our city. Karma is a bitch. ITs bad enough the mayor's affair finally was reported by the media and if they read this blog they would have known last year when it was being posted. If another affair comes to light and I think it will Antonio can kiss any political career he has out the window. Hillary Clinton is ahead because of women. That will drop drastically if she doesn't drop Antonio from her campaign. Women hate cheaters and there's not one on this planet that hasn't experienced a cheating man. They will not vote for Hillary if she supports Antonio on this issue.

Well everyone is well aware that Hollywood is filled with a great many whores, druggies and other assorted lowlifes and, in fact, do not really expect any better behavior from them most of the time. If you are the sort of person who admires that because you are the type that thinks it is "cool", that is up to you, I guess. You mention George Clooney, specifically, and I would point out to you that he is a private individual who is under no obligation to the public in any way, is not a married man and he has not been running around building a career largely using his family as a front to make him appear to be honest, solid and upstanding when, in fact, he is just another lying corrupt, smarmy, self-serving and incompetent politician. There are no proper comparisons to be drawn between Villar and Clooney.

You mention the conflict of interest on the part of the women and dismiss the Mayor's behavior as though it is a small matter of a little personal indiscretion that needs to be "cleaned up" while he is actually strong and dynamic in reality? Well, I am sure you wil be able to sell that to the "rock star's" fans, but the rest of us are certainly not going to buy it! "Teflon man" is entirely inadequate ... Commie Villar is more like "Slippery Slimey Sleaze man".

Bill Clinton survived because he was a great president. Crime went down, jobs were up and he turned a Bush deficit into a surplus. Other pols (Guiliani) are also given a pass when they can point to exceptional abilities and accomplishments or happen to be Mayor during 9/11.

The fundamental problem for Antonio is that when you peel away the flash and sizzle of his frenetic ribbon cutting and relatively meaningless public activity, he is nothing more than a hollywood set--a facade. There's nothing there behind the walls of his "Desperate Housewives" set he has built at City Hall.

Where's our subway to the sea he promised? He was Chair of the MTA. Has traffic improved for anyone yet? He promised to help poor people and yet MTA fares are up. Oh, and how's that mayoral takeover of our public schools he promised? Big deal, he spent millions to win a couple of lowly school board seats. So did Riordan and that didn't accomplish anything. Gang violence is out of control again and the LAPD is still out of control.

It won't be long before local pols will feel emboldened to challenge him. It will start slowly and build.

Soon enough, reports of all the money he has been raising (the other thing he is really good at--infidelity the other) will show that he has traded access and support to unsavory special interests. Pay to play will resurface, misuse of public monies will surface and the sex scandal will appear meaningless in light of the inevitable corruption investigations.

All of this for the man who beat Jim Hahn on the issue of "integrity".

CM: Tell me about some these sins Antonio. Whatever they are, God will forgive them.

AV: well okay. There was this really hot chick from Telemundo that I have been banging. Before that I screwed around with my best friends wife while my wife was going through chemo therapy. Now I moved on to this really hot Korean lady. I don't know what to do. My family hates me. The fine illegal aliens I represent in LA are starting to turn on me. I feel my life is crumbling. To top it off, I think one of the woman might be pregnant. I know the church is against abortion, but I just can't have another child out of wedlock. I told myself that would never happen again.

CM: God forgives you of all these sins Antonio. That's the way it works. You sin, I forgive. Look at me. I have enabled hundreds of priests over the years to keep molesting little kids, but all I do is ask for God's forgiveness and it's all good. The important thing is that you're doing the Lords work of helping out all the illegals in LA. Keep up the great work on that front

AV: Gee thanks CM. I feel a lot better now.

LA mayor’s image tarnished by affair

By MICHAEL R. BLOOD, The Associated Press

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa likes to say “dream with me,” but it’s hard hear those words these days without a collective snicker. The telegenic mayor known for his Chiclet smile and boyish energy has run out on his wife and taken up with a sultry newscaster who announced the mayor’s separation on the air.

Two years ago, the mayor walked with his wife and two kids in hand and Cardinal Roger Mahoney at his side after being sworn in. Now front pages are filled with tales of an affair and the mayor’s less-than-forthright answers about the romance...

"...Villaraigosa “is living in the right political age to overcome this,” said Jaime Regalado of the Pat Brown Institute of Public Affairs at California State University, Los Angeles. “I know how fickle voters can be, but also what short-term memories they have.”

Even pundits like Jaime Regalado, executive director of the Edmund "Pat" Brown Institute at California State University, Los Angeles, who usually makes nothing but positive assessments of Villaraigosa, warned that the mayor’s breakup could present problems if “this proves to be something that has legs.”

http://tonycastro.typepad.com/tony_castro/2007/06/politics-infide.html

“If there is a nasty divorce with repercussions,” said Regalado, “then it becomes (politically) dangerous.”
Villaraigosa has admitted infidelity in the past – an affair that prompted Corina Villaraigosa to file for divorce in 1994.

I know you all love to hate the L A Times, but Tim Rutten today makes an important comment: that truly slimy gossip blogs (like this descends into a lot) make NO distinction between personal and public lives, and that that is, in fact, the basis for their prurient interest.

If there is to be any relelvance to this gossip stuff, it would be to define these boundaries as acceped in the public discourse. Most of you here, and all the Mexicans, do not even acknowledge a distinction which ensures descent into the mental gutter, and that no one in his/her (isn't it awful we have been forced to used plural "their") right minds will want to be a politician. There is accountability BUT that does not make personal life, incl. sex lives that none of YOU would want to divulge, publicly legit fodder for janitors, waiters OR executives.

When you trash people without even acknowledging boundaries, you force the decline of our civilization to where only a dull eunuch would want to become a politician.

No, sorry, that won't fly. The goal is to find people of CHARACTER and HONOR (remember THAT archaic word?) who aren't afraid of what they have to hide! And your argument is clearly ridiculous...fear of disclosure and "gossip" hasn't ever stopped scoundrels (isn't that such a classy euphemism for "human turds"!) from trying to get in and rip the system for all its worth and to launch on their personal power and enrichment trips - and people of CHARACTER and HONOR aren't worried about "gossip"!

And you are wrong, all of "us" out here do NOT have all kinds of dreadful secrets we are afraid will be uncovered.

The REAL problem is that, thanks to the controlled entertainment and media that have been calculatedly working overtime to degrade everything in society, thanks to a degenerate, leftist-controlled "school" system we now and increasingly have a population of idiots and human turds to such an extent that the pool from which people of substance and character can be drawn is continually shrinking!

I love the way the snakes keep trying to come up with creative new reasons why we must find ways to "work around" and "adapt to" the debased culture they have created and so love, hinting indirectly that, of course, the corruption is unavoidable because "everyone does it" and we just have to "learn to work with it and not hold anyone to 'exaggerated' standards", rather than noting how desperately we must work to reinstate decency, honesty, accountability and values and standards of a much higher order ... much more like we used to have decades ago!

Very good question. If you remember the "SCRIBEGASM OF ADORMENT" that was the "SCRONED WWG's" Los Angeles Magazine article on the "POLITICO FORMERLY KNOWN AS ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA, tony villar". Many of us in the local bloggersphere lanpooning the "PUFF PIECE" by the "WWG".

When the allegations became true, you will notice that the "SCORNED WWG" was besides himself with "MAYOR POLLOVILLAR'S" behavior. Also remember how the "SCORNED WWG" went after the Daily News writer Tony Castro with his "MYTH PIECE".

Simply, the "SCORNED WWG" and his beloved "OBSERVING WEST L.A. LIFE AND HIS TIMES BLOG" were used and abused by the "POLITICO FORMERLY KNOWN AS ANTONIO VILLARAGOSA, tony villar.

You cannot segment a personality and a character they way you would like to make everyone think. No! if you are rotten and low in your "personal" life you will not be an honest, trustworthy and proper person in your business/public life.

That is why the Clinton bullshit "character doesn't count" is exactly that...bullshit.

Situations you want your family (or part of same) noticed would be, e.g., you are dying of cancer or charged with a crime, the latter showing to the press and jury that you are innocent, not the type of person who would do the crime, etc.

What is the family to do here? Hold protests about the couple's division of furniture? Offer Villar consoling hugs after the judge imposes a child-support order?

It is probably fortunate that he has done so little ... heaven only knows WHAT Los Angeles would be like if he was actually fully functional!

This smarmy behavior under current discussion is only one aspect of what is wrong with the Mayor.

If you are going to sneak around engaging in illicit behavior that not only makes you a monumental liar and hypocrite, but will make you a laughing stock when you are found out, then don't complain when people start laughing!

Gee, holding public figures to full accountability and high standards might cost us the invaluable services of the likes of Tony Villar? Well, gee, what a loss! Facts, Reasoning Out The Window In Dumb LA Times Editorial
Posted by Dave Pierre on July 7, 2007 - 21:49.
An editorial in Friday's Los Angeles Times (7/6/07) is one of the dumbest in quite a while - and that's saying a lot.

Writing on the recently disclosed affair of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, a Democrat, the Times ridiculously opines that "it seems that Democrats' sexual shenanigans do more damage to their political careers than Republicans' do." The Times cheekily writes that the "political bible" states, "Thou shalt not commit adultery, unless you're a Republican." (All emphasis mine.)

Oh, really? Just looking at the Villaraigosa affair, the Times' editorial conveniently fails to consider a few things:

Just today (Sat. 7/7/07), the Times wrote, "[V]oters can be very forgiving, as Villaraigosa himself proved by winning election [as mayor in 2005] despite admitting a separate affair in 1994 that nearly ended his marriage." So ... Where was the "damage" there, LA Times?
According to this LA Daily News article, Antonio's wife, Corina, "had been battling thyroid cancer" during the 1994 campaign. (See also this.) So ... Where's the "damage," LA Times?
Even with this brand-new revelation, an affair with a reporter who covered him on television (!), what "damage" has been done to Villaraigosa's career? Except for some embarrassment, absolutely none, as far as anyone can see. The mayor still retains his job.
In other words, there's no "damage" to Villaraigosa for the Times to be talking about, except ... The real damage in all of this, as this excellent article from LA Daily News' Chris Weinkopf stated, is to Villaraigosa's wife and his two growing children. (See also this.)

As the Times rightly points out, affairs have damaged, and not damaged, the professional careers of politicians of both parties. (Gavin Newsom, the Democratic mayor of San Francisco, still remains popular despite his recent affair.) But the Times fails to consider that the real "scandal" is not often the affair itself. Politicians get into real trouble when they publicly lie or attempt to obfuscate their situations (e.g., Henry Cisneros, Gary Hart, Bill Clinton).

And as far as the opinion that "Democrats' sexual shenanigans do more damage to their political careers than Republicans' do," that's just plain dumb.

I never even mentioned the mayor in 6:14, it's a general comment that there IS a boundary you fail to grasp and your trashing the mayor, whatever his faults in this particular case and his poor choice of women or his sex life, while insisting there is no boundary and yes, rabble and lowlifes have a right to details re: all politicians, IS making this a third- world hell-hole. Driving out anyone who isn't from the barrios, as they wouldn't stand this crap.

And I'd sure rather be an elitist than the dregs that pass for political critics out here. I'm from N Carolina, where we still have civility, and when I moved out here recently, a friend told me to look at what's happening at City Hall, the Council meetings, as she couldn't believe it -- she'd gone in with a group presentation and found the circus. Tunes in last week, and a woman who apparently often goes to the valley office, an obese and ludicrously dressed woman with a hideously uneducated voice (something I wouldn't point out but for the comments re: the Mayor here far worse), interrupted herself to say: "I need all of you to listen to me and make eye contact! Bernie, what I'm saying is very important, look at me!" I shuddered and was horrified -- this would be unimaginable at home or in a truly civilized place, where people go to such institutions and make their comments with respect.

I've learned there are other regulars who waste even more time, and have nothing much to say, but say it with total disrespect. Just like the tone and people in this blog. YOU people have the nerve to hold yourselves up as paradigms of anything? YOU'RE the reason kids in the town have no respect for adults or authority, act and eat like pigs, don't know how to dress and behave on formal occasions, call adults by first names and tell them off as rudely as they learn from you all -- yes, this blog does attract the scum of the earth, and you degrade our city, and if that makes me "elitist," I'm proud to be called that.

You also have no respect for free speech, but that goes along with the mob mentality and hypocrisy.

"Whether this affair poses a threat to Antonio's political future is debatable," said Los Angeles attorney Alex Jacinto, a longtime veteran of Eastside politics. "Probably not. His political base has shifted, and it's not as heavily dependent on the Latinos from the Eastside.

Villaraigosa lied, exaggerated about his past? Antonio Villaraigosa lied to the public in order to get elected. Villaraigosa lied and said that Stuckey was “Jim Hahn’s GM, not mine,” it was indicative that Villaraigosa is out for only one thing: himself. Villaraigosa lied to the humane community of LA. Antonio used his "family man" theme for each and every campaign he entered. He lied. We were told he was lying. And he continues to lie. What was that line on the Clintons, "the ease in which they lied was troubling." Villaraigosa staffers lie to community members. Villaraigosa, whether he believes so or not, has flamboyantly flaunted his affair with that newscaster and lied to our faces about his indiscretions. He lied to the 14th district just like he lied to his buddy Richard. The mayor's lied before in this matter (ask Luke Ford, who first wrote about Villaraigosa's missing wedding band.)

It sickens me to see our nation, our LA community, embracing this man. Villaraigosa, whether he believes so or not, has flamboyantly flaunted his affair with that newscaster and lied to our faces about his indiscretions.

Why do we, as a nation, greenlight such questionable behavior and dare accept it on the basis on normalcy? When are we going to put our foot down and demand that our political and social leaders stop telling us lies? They work for us. WE DO NOT WORK FOR THEM! Why don't we demand the best? Why do we consistently allow those who disappoint us to lead us? Are we so complacent that we've relinquished our political right to remove those from office that prove time and again that they are morally bankrupt?

Would the very people that claim that his private life has nothing to do with how he runs the city think the same thing if it were discovered that he beats his wife? Would he be worthy of removal then? Physical abuse? Emotional abuse? Very similar effects to the victim! If he is so willing to embarass his wife and children simply to sleep with a woman who lacks integrity herself, isn't it possible to believe that he will continue to embarrass the City of Los Angeles? Look at us! Our most vocal candidates for the office of Governor in the 2010 election are two adulterers! Are these the types of heroes our children will inherit as they continue to grow? Such men represent our VERY BEST?????

Many people say that his private life has nothing to do with his ability to do a good job. I disagree. His actions at home speak to his work ethic. All the time he spent with his mistress was time he should have been spending at home with his family. Additionally, his mind was clearly divided. Anyone who has been in a situation where your family life is falling apart knows how difficult it is to navigate through every day situations with ease when faced with such stress. Villaraigosa brought all of this upon himself. Not to mention, he has done this before but it wasn't publicly known. Check into his past.

It is exactly this type of poor moral fiber and inability to commit that is destroying our nation. We are the so morally bankrupt that we don't even know what it means to have integrity; to INSIST on integrity from those that profess to be our leaders. Why do we accept lies so easily? Why is there never any outrage about this type of behavior? His affair is inexcusable, as was Bill Clinton's. When we no longer understand that how men and women treat and care for their families is an infallible indication of how they will operate in their communities, we have lost a great deal and will ultimately experience national ruin. The moral decline in this nation will lead to our destruction. We must insist on integrity. For the "Land of the Free" we are certainly entangled in a web of enslaving lies. How many families do you know that have been destroyed in such a manner? It's too much when our elected leaders ignorantly fuck up their own lives - as well as the lives of their spouses' and children - for ass. IT'S OUT OF CONTROL, PEOPLE?

Villaraigosa's word means nothing. He is not fit to lead Los Angeles if he can't even successfully participate in his own family.

I, for one, am extremely disappointed.

The untold story of the mayor's rise from poverty to power

Antonio Villaraigosa had promoted his ambitious trade mission to the Far East for almost an hour when he slipped into a monologue about Chinese food and chopsticks.

"It's funny, but I've been addicted to chopsticks since I was a kid. My kids have, too."

Those thin, metal chopsticks were another matter, the mayor said, trading stories of their difficulty with editors and reporters before drifting back to memories of his childhood.

"I've been using chopsticks since I was a kid ..."

He rolled his head slowly and gazed upward as if the ceiling tiles were television monitors showing old home movies of his youth when he caught himself and bit his lip.

"That's not true. I think the first time I went to a Chinese restaurant was when I was 19 ..."

As chroniclers of Antonio Villaraigosa invariably come to discover, sometimes what comes out of the Los Angeles mayor's mouth - particularly when it's about his past - and what ultimately turns out to be true are not always entirely the same.

All Muck is Local: Los Angeles
By Will Thomas - July 8, 2007, 11:00 AM
George Torres-Ramos is the owner of a successful chain of supermarkets situated throughout low-income neighborhoods in Los Angeles County. He's also under indictment, facing 59 counts of charges spanning from racketeering, violence in aid of racketeering, conspiracy to harbor illegal immigrants and several types of fraud that netted over $100 million. Along the way, Torres has been accused of bribing several officials to help secure liquor licenses. He’s also suspected of orchestrating three murders.

The trail to his indictment traces back to the end of the Clinton era. Officials at the Drug Enforcement Agency had long held suspicions that Torres was trafficking cocaine in his grocery trucks, but had never had enough evidence to to charge him. Torres’s business association with one Horacio Vignali eventually changed that.

Vignali had been identified as one of Torres’ business partners by the DEA, but any investigation into Torres had subsequently run out of steam. But Vignali became public news when his son's prison sentence for cocaine trafficking was commuted by President Clinton on the way out of office. Remarkably, President Clinton had received commutation requests from the sheriff, the U.S. Attorney, two Congressmen, the L.A. County Supervisor and the current mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

The commutation caused an outrage, spawning among other things, a 2002 congressional investigation. But it was this commutation, combined with the business relationship between Vignali and Torres, that spurred investigators to take a broader look at the Los Angeles grocer. What they found was a trail of evidence connecting Torres to extortion, racketeering, bribery and murder.

According to investigators, Torres exploited and even physically abused illegal immigrants working for him. And he allegedly bribed two city officials with the hopes of gaining a liquor license. Torres provided a former planning commissioner with a truck, tickets to sporting events as well as an apartment to ensure that the man was living in the right district to help him. He is additionally accused of conspiring with a member of the Los Angeles Central Area Planning Commission in order to help procure additional liquor licenses.

And while Torres has not been indicted for drug trafficking, it's clear why the DEA had suspected him. Torres allegedly employed drug dealers to muscle out his competition. According to the indictment, he ordered one of his employees, Ignacio Meza, to kill two members of rival gangs; later, Torres had Meza killed as well.

Throughout all of this, Torres was able to avoid being convicted of any charges, despite plenty of suspicion and two charges of carrying a concealed weapon. But there are worries that his lack of a record was more than just luck. A raid of one of Torres’ business sites produced a copy of a confidential DEA report, suggesting inside connections. And an unsettling story has recently come forward from Deputy City Attorney Asha Greenberg.

It happened when Greenberg was investigating a complaint that Torres was illegally demolishing low-income housing in order to build a parking lot. She claims that during her investigation she received two calls from staff members of L.A. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, followed by a call from Delgadillo himself. Greenberg recalls that Torres had told Delgadillo that an indictment would hinder his ability to procure and maintain liquor licenses. Greenberg says “It was very unusual for Rocky to call me…. Given the calls that came earlier, I felt pressured.” Nevertheless, Greenberg continued her investigation, and the case was eventually plea bargained down to a misdemeanor.

Delgadillo for his part denies the nature of his call, claiming that he never pressured Greenberg and he ultimately deferred to her recommendation. He also says that his call was in response to an “external inquiry” about the case. However, Delgadillo is engrossed in his own problems currently. He is facing ethics complaints from the local bar for giving his wife access to a city car, and for using staff members to run errands and baby-sit his children. Last week, the LA Times editorial board called for his resignation.

So it's an understatement to say that George Torres-Ramos had long-reaching influence in Los Angeles politics. And as interesting as this case has been recently, it will be even more interesting to see if the case reveals more of Torres' friends in high places.

Politics makes strange bedfellows
Thomas Lifson
Gateway Pundit is compiling some very suggestive reports that Los Angeles Mayor and Hillary Clinton campaign co-chair has moved on to yet another mistress, leaving behind Mirthala Salinas, suspended anchor of the Telemundo Spanish language network's LA station, in favor of yet another slender and attractive woman, this time an entrepreneur and philanthropist of Korean ancestry. In fact, it has been speculated that the reason that Salinas broke the story of her affair with Villaraigosa is because he broke her heart, and left her a woman scorned.

It certainly does raise awkward issues for Hillary, who now appears to have some sort of attraction to philanderers. And it raises the interesting question of what the mayor will do with his name, which is actually a combination of his own birth name of Villar with his now-estranged wife's name, Raigosa.

The Los Angeles Times, which devoted an investigative team to uncovering peccadilloes on the part of Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was running for governor, seems to be singularly uninterested in doing anything more than minimizing the significance of their city's mayor's amorous entanglements.

It remains to be seen how the mayor's taking-up with a non-Hispanic woman will play out with some of the more racially-conscious Hispanic activists, some of whom already detest the mayor for endorsing Hillary instead of the Hispanic contender, Bill Richardson. Given the often uneasy state of racial relations in Los Angeles, where Korean shopkeepers encounter hostility from other ethnic groups resenting their upward mobility, perhaps some of his base will find that diversity is something you don't always celebrate.

Needless to say, if this were Republican, you would be seeing no end of front page stories and television coverage. But give this one time. The blogosphere will do its digging, and when it comes to salacious stories, the public will eventually be informed. And then there is the little matter of the divorce proceedings.

So will Hillary keep the philanderer as her co-chair? No matter what she does, it keeps the public thinking about her proclaimed ability to be deceived by her husband, not exactly the best recommendation for someone who is supposed to face down Al Qaeda and other terrorists who practice deception as an art form

Audit, Schmaudit! Spend The $178 Million Per Year On Police, Not "Gang Programs!"

By Guest: Walter Moore on Jul 08, 07

Today the Los Angeles City Council authorized an expenditure of $500,000 of your money to “audit and gauge the effectiveness of” dozens of so-called “anti-gang” programs on which they already spend $178 million of your money each year.

Shouldn’t Mayor Villaraigosa and the City Council have determined whether the programs worked before spending millions of your money on them? You know, maybe start out with, say, $10,000 and work up to $178 million? And shouldn’t the people running the programs have the burden of proving the programs are worthwhile?

Anyhow, I’ve performed my own “audit”—which took about 10 minutes—and have determined that we should immediately stop giving that $178 million per year to “gang programs,” and instead use it to hire around 3000 additional police officers.

Here are the “key findings” of my 10-minute audit:

1. Zero Success. The LAPD estimates there are 39,000 gang members in L.A. Hence, the programs are already costing us $4,564 per gang member per year. There are “gang programs” galore. (Click here for a partial list.) Don’t you think if any of them were actually making a positive difference, we would know about it? Of course we would. The logical conclusion, in view of the city’s massive gang problem, is that these programs do not work. There’s no reason to believe more of the same will produce anything other than...more of the same.

2. Increasing Crime, Not Decreasing It. “Gang programs” can be, well, “gang programs.” You may recall the newspaper story on Hector “Big Weasel” Marroquin, whose “gang program,” called “No Guns,” received at least $1.5 million from the City last year. (Did you receive $1.5 million from the City last year? Me, neither.) Federal prosecutors recently charged “Big Weasel” of selling an assault rifle, a machine gun, two pistols and two silencers to undercover federal agents. (I guess Delgadillo was too busy to look into it, because he was issuing press releases about Paris Hilton and a lady who hoarded cats.) That tells us the people running and these programs are, pardon the expression, “loose cannons.”

3. Zero Oversight. Nor has Villaraigosa fulfilled his duty as the City’s chief executive officer to oversee the programs. Instead, two years into office, Villarigosa appointed an ordained minister as his “gang czar.” (The “czar” title always slays me, given how well the czars fared at governing.) What are the minister’s credentials to evaluate the cost-efficiency of these programs? Well, he’s spent the past 19 years of his life working for faith-based gang programs. Given his background, how objective do you think he’ll be? Do you think a man who’s spent his career working in gang programs would ever say your money would be better spent imprisoning criminals than trying to save their souls? Of course not.

4. Spend The Money Hiring Officers. The starting salary for an L.A.P.D. officer with a high school diploma is $52,638 per year. For the $178 million we now spend on these dubious “gang programs,” we could pay the salaries—not including benefits, cars, etc.—of an additional 3,382 police officers.

Bottom line: if someone is trying to break into your house, do you want your tax money going to 3,382 police officers, or to people like Hector “Big Weasel” Marroquin?

Ethics questioned in L.A. mayor's affair
Some criticize Villaraigosa, newscaster, TV station for way situation was handled
By Gary Gentile
ASSOCIATED PRESS

Article Launched: 07/08/2007 03:04:42 AM PDT

LOS ANGELES -- On June 8, TV stations around the city reported that Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was separating from his wife of 20 years.
"The rumors were true," is how one newscaster, 35-year-old Mirthala Salinas, broke the news to her Spanish-speaking audience on Telemundo's local affiliate, KVEA on Channel 52.

What Salinas didn't tell viewers was that she had been in an extramarital affair with Villaraigosa for many months.

That apparent ethical slip puzzles many observers, who say Telemundo's credibility has been damaged, even more so because the station didn't remove Salinas from the air until this week, after the mayor publicly acknowledged their affair.

Grocer's Racketeering Case Roils LA By ANDREW GLAZER

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Federal prosecutors describe George Torres as a discount don who murdered his rivals, intimidated his employees and bribed public officials to expand his supermarket chain.

Torres' alleged confederates, including brother Manuel Torres-Ramos, 53; son Steven Torres, 26; George Luk, 58, a member of the Los Angeles Convention and Exhibition Center Authority Commission; and Steven Carmona, 39, a former member of the Los Angeles Central Area Planning Commission, also pleaded not guilty. Manuel Torres-Ramos also remained locked up

George Torres' lawyer Brian Sun (SAME IDIOT WHO DEFENDED PARLOR MAID'S BOYFRIEND/SPY CASE)denied the charges.

``This is much ado about nothing,'' he said before the arraignment.

Luk, while a member of the Los Angeles Central Area Planning Commission, is suspected of also lobbying colleagues to approve Torres' liquor license.

In an April 2005 telephone conversation, Luk and Carmona decided to ask Torres to give an unidentified member of the Los Angeles City Council $10,000 to support a liquor license for another market, according to the indictment.

Hillary Attacks Bush Clemency For LibbyShe wasted no time in lashing out at President Bush’s decision to commute the sentence of “Scooter” Libby saying: “Today’s decision is yet another example that this Administration simply considers itself above the law. …This commutation sends the clear signal that in this Administration, cronyism and ideology trump competence and justice.” Standing behind her, Bill clapped along with the audience, but without too much enthusiasm.
Surely, the former President realized that some journalist like me would dig back into the record of pardons and clemency granted when he was in the White House. It was so rampant and so corrupt that, at one point, it was labeled “Pardongate,” and was the subject of an investigation by Federal prosecutors.

Finally, on January 20, 2001 -- his last day in office, President Clinton issued no less than 140 pardons and commutations. Many of these raised some serious questions:
Carlos Vignali had his 15-year sentence for cocaine trafficking commuted. Both Braswell and Vignali paid an estimated $200,000 to Hillary Clinton’s brother, Hugh Rodham, to lobby the President for their clemency. When these payments were made public, Rodham claimed to have returned the payments.

dumping the t.v. anchor. The Mayor allegedly spotted her at the police dept. and said he wanted the woman he saw on his detail. He was told only those from the Metro division are assigned to this kind of detail and it’s very hard to make that happen. Apparently getting into Metro division is not an easy task and is highly sought after. Allegedly, strings were pulled and this woman whisked through the process and ended up on his detail– this one would be easy to check–find out who the new woman on detail is who was moved into Metro with a quick and speedy and highly unusual transfer to be with the Mayor. Confirm with LAPD sources to suss out veracity."

Here are the "inspiring" quotes found on the website of Sabrina Kay, City-Wide Planning Commissioner of Los Angeles.

There is a quote about success tasts bad when it is not earned. The ironies of this quote are obvious.

Also, there seems to be an odd reference to pe**s size in Commissioner Kay's Quotes. What exactly were the "qualifications" of this woman to be appointed to the Citywide Planning Commission? None apparent from her website.

Someone should be asking the Mayor's office that question because Mayor Villaraigosa said this week he thinks voters base their decisions about trust on the things you do in public life, the promises you keep. I seem to remember promises to clean up corruption at City Hall and the appointment of well-qualified Commissioners.

How is it that someone who finds a quote about pe**s size relevant to her professional business website -- gets appointed Planning Commissioner of the City of Los Angeles? Hmmmmmmm.

Dear friends at the Mayor Sam Blog site,

I would like to take a moment to apologize for any misunderstanding that my relationship with Ms. Salinas may have caused. During this emotional and truly difficult time, I ask you to respect the privacy of both my family and Ms. Salinas. They need, and deserve, time away from the public spotlight. In the meantime, I aim to insert my weiner into a number of additional females in and around our great city. I therefore encourage you to refrain from speculation and heresay regarding my role and capacity as your mayor.

Sincerely,

Antonio

LA Times Columnist Exposes Paper's Double Standard

http://newsbusters.org/node/13957

Posted by Dave Pierre on July 8, 2007 - 20:32.

Many know by now that Democratic Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles has admitted to a lengthy affair with a television reporter. So, what do you call an extremely thoughtful, well-written commentary that suggests that the mayor uphold his wedding vows, immediately end his affair, repent for his actions, and work to restore the relationships between his wife and his children? If you're the helpless Tim Rutten at the Los Angeles Times, you call it a "hysterical screed."

In his latest column, Rutten refers to "The Cheat and The Homewrecker" by LA Daily News editor Chris Weinkopf. Writes Rutten (bold mine):

The news of Villaraigosa's marital difficulties was broken by a blogger, Luke Ford, then fleshed out by the Daily News, which immediately posted the story on its website. The paper's editorial page editor set the tone for much of the subsequent commentary by immediately putting up a hysterical screed that, believe it or not, included terms you probably haven't seen since the last time you read "Elmer Gantry," words like "homewrecker" and "repent."

"Hysterical screed"? Oh, really? Rutten may want to look back at his own paper to Robert Scheer's nasty column from August 17, 1999. In the column, Scheer brutally attacked former Speaker Newt Gingrich for his two divorces. Spewed Scheer, "Now it's his turn to be judged bad fruit." Scheer then concluded his column by tagging Gingrich as a "serial home-wrecker."

Look, Tim! Scheer used the same word as Weinkopf! But, wait. Gingrich is a Republican. Villaraigosa is a Democrat. Did you publicly report anything "hysterical" with Scheer's column back then? I didn't think so.

Yet another double standard at the LA Times.

(P.S.- Rutten did get one thing right: The Villaraigosa story was largely driven by blogger Luke Ford. Ford broke the news of Villaraigosa's marriage back in January. Hey, Tim. Where was the LA Times?)

i get the whole thing about the mayor being a scum bag and i couldn't agree more, i don't live in los angeles so i only see the little A hole on the news at every opportunity he gets but what i don't understand is how a member of an anti-american group gets elected mayor of one of the biggest cities in america in the first place. didn't enough people question this, before they voted, are the citzens of los angeles that unaware of who they are voting for? that is pretty scary in itself. hope he gets tossed and i'm not talking about his salad.

This is in response to the comment posted by "Anonymous" on July 8 at 11:33 a.m. You state that Greenberg "claims that it was improper, but she went and did it anyway...She could have, and should have, said no."

Get your facts right. DCA Asha Greenberg did say "No." That's the whole point -- she did not agree to reduce or dismiss the charges. She did the right thing. DCA Greenberg is a highly respected prosecutor.

Thanks to 12:30 a.m. for pointing out that some of the idiots who post and respond here are incapable of understanding what they're reading or hearing, especially if it conflicts with their hell-bent intention on scuzzing up someone's reputation.

Did it ever occur to anyone that the affair with Sabrina Kay is entirely fabricated by the media? That perhaps the publications, journalists, and various other unreliable sources of information decided to take a break from Nicole, Lindsay or Paris' partying antics? This is a case of desperate paparazzi looking for something that isn't there. Us Weekly (of all people) put out an article specifically addressing false stories published by tabloids. The "Sunday Journal," the Korean periodical which published the article regarding Villaraigosa and Kay's alleged affair, is essentially the Korean equivalent to The National Inquirer. IT IS A TABLOID.

I mean, this Sabrina Kay woman got an MBA from USC. I doubt someone who excelled in finance and accounting courses needs to "sleep their way to the top," so to speak. I don't know any "fashion designers" with an MBA, so she's already ahead of the curve with regard to business savvy. How much does a "City Planning Commission" position help a fashion designer, anyway? Is she going to set up zoning with specified, legally enforced, dress code? Or establish a "fashion police" force? Seriously, guys.

It's really sad that when a man is successful, no one questions his ability and intellect. I hate to pull the race card or feminist card but it's true that the masses will always discredit a woman's success. This holds especially true to minority women. Already, the blogosphere has coined the nickname, "Antonio's Korean Girlfriend." She is no longer a role model, nor a businesswoman, nor an immigrant success story, rather, an objectified caricature, neatly packaged for mass consumption. It's so cliché. We regress to the “mistress” or “Asian whore” archetype because it’s an easily digestible image for the lowest common denominator.

This is where the real "glass ceiling" comes in: It is not built on a foundation of sexist supervisors who came of age in a time when women's suffrage was unheard of or when "colored people" still had to sit in the back of the bus. It occurs when the masses are too quick to bring down someone who earned an honest living just because she is a woman or a person of color.

And I'm sure all those who posted anonymously about "Antonio's Korean girlfriend, who slept her way to the top," have female friends and friends of varying minority groups. But think about this: No one has challenged the men appointed to the City Planning Commission.

Ahhh. it is a fact Mayor cheated. No one questioned Sabrina. The masses question THE MAN. get it THE MAN is the problem. get over it feminist. The truth hurts. Why is it so out of reach for a Man to have an affair with a smart and hungry business woman?
