SB53 (Shady Bill 53)/Eminent Domain Problems Already in Valencia

NEW UPDATES ON THE ZUMA TIMES GOOGLE GROUP AT ZumaTimes.com INCLUDE:

SB53 (SHADY BILL 53) EMINENT DOMAIN PROBLEMS ALREADY IN VALENCIA

IF EMINENT DOMAIN (in a "smart growth"/"high density" gameplan) HAS BECOME ZD'S #1 CONCERN (after last week's new ED ordinance passed by LA City Council) -- then this is the first scenario on deck to illustrate the "whole enchilada" of problems. Here's the appetizer while the rest the details are prepared for blogging.

From: Linda Slocum

Hello! I found you with a google search on eminent domain - found the Mayor Sam site first.

Just wondering if you can help with getting the word out on the eminent domain issues in the Santa Clarita area.

The business owners currently affected are only a small fraction of the overall plan, and since this was dropped on them like a bomb they're scared spitless to speak up for fear that the City will get pissed and reduce the "offers" to "buy" their properties.

A full 78% of businesses and 55% residences in the downtown Newhall area are scheduled for the wrecking ball in this ill-planned redevelopment project. Many of these are lower-income non-English-speaking people, so my guess is that their ability to fight this will be virtually nil. In addition, much of the residential rental housing is set to be demolished and converted into condos instead of rentals, so it's not hard to see that this is a circling of the wagons to change the demographics of the area. Was it a coincidence that there was an INS sweep of the area in late April, netting about 30 detainees?

The new ordinance required by SB53 is set to be "approved" on June 26 WITHOUT public hearing, and provides the City with the means to evict the current property owners prior to reaching an agreement as to the purchase price. Meaning that there could potentially be people out on the street (most likely businesses) without any funds to help move them into new locations. AND without relief from their current mortgages or rental agreements. SCARY!

Anything you can do to help get some press on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

All's not lost!!! We represent real estate owners and/or business owners throughout California and bat for them. And that's the only side we represent.

Have been batting against Big Brother on behalf of the small guy for in excess of 20 years.

Let me know your contact details and we'll take it from there, ok?

Have a great day!
