Tom Hayden backs off critical comments he was quoted making in a recent New Yorker article about Mayor Villaraigosa.An anonymous tipster tells Eater LA that at the grand opening gala of Romano Restaurant in LA, Mayor Villaraigosa made a "boozy speech" surrounded by a "bunch of bleach-blond Russian women wearing incredibly short skirts."
A writer at LA Voice infers that Mayor Villaraigosa is a hypocrite for saying he supports transit but raising fares and cutting service that will hurt the poor.
Hypocrite Part 2: Steve Hymon notes that following a speech on his plan to end global warming, Mayor Villaraigosa drove off in his GMC Yukon SUV.

Note to you sir, Every person who was quoted in that article has called the New Yorker to express their frustration with the article.
Mel Levine's wife has a history of writing pieces that depict people of color in unflattering lights.
As for your link to the restauraunt -- if you look at the picture its a HUGE room. I figure the Mayor should be aware of everyone in the room he is eating with less, bloggers like you try to say he was "surrounded" by usavory types.
Just not true.
As for FLAMBOYANT FRIAS mouthing off -- he is a ego-driven BRU organizer trying to upend the group and oust the current BRU leadership.
So picking a fight with the Mayor makes him seem relevant.
Lots of huff -- but no puff in this post.
I hope everyone is catching on to the fact that T. Villar is a boozer, a chaser, and a low class cholo!

I've personally seen him at various meetings in the early afternoon and he slurs his words and can't string two sentences together. He always looks like he's three sheets to the wind. It's a cultural trait...
I saw him sitting at an outside table at the Grove one week-end at Christmas time 2 years ago and he was sitting with 3 brutish looking goons. Yuck!
The MTA has been pushing for higher fare rates for years. THEY, not the mayor, want it around 3-5 bucks. They've been pushing for it for years. Atleast ten. The 1.25 one way, was an expairiment. The Mayor has tried to put a stop to this, as did the last mayor. But it's hard to stop a PRIVATE institution from setting up their own rates.
Connie Bruck embarrassed herself doing lousy research for her New Yorker article. She bought into Martha Escutia's BS about the Healthy Families bill by characterizing it as something Villaraigosa ripped off of her while he was Speaker of the Assembly. Problem is, he started introducing major health care bills when he was a freshman and got Healthy Families through the legislature and all the way to Gov. Pete Wilson's desk for signing BEFORE he ever became Speaker. It takes about two minutes of research on the Internet to learn that, and Bruck apparently couldn't even be bothered.
Also, she buys into the fiction that Villaraigosa's first mayoral run in 2001 lacked substance compared to Jim Hahn's. The reality was that Villaraigosa had 50 pages of policy proposals on his campaign website and did press conference after press conference on issues that the media largely ignored, compared to Hahn's almost non-existent policy efforts that year. Hahn's big thing - as everyone now knows - was to paint Villaraigosa as a cholo, something which MayorSam posters still seem to be bought into.
The only thing Bruck got right about this was that the 2001 campaign wasn't decided on policy proposals. And, while we won't argue with the characterization of Villaraigosa's ego and apparent desire to use his sharp elbows, that case can be made without distorting the historical record. Get the facts straight, and THEN tell the story.
Mayor Sam you should be flattered that now the Mayor's staffers are posting to do damage control. Won't work cause he's fucked up this city so badly its too late. Spin all you want the national media is finally reporting what we all know. Antonio is a sleazy, womanizing, no morals, no class, no leadership, pandering illegal, gang banging cholo from the Eastside. Interesting on the budget meeting yesterday Antonio's people, even that snobby DP Sally weirdo and his DP of Homeland Security could not explain what some of the "new gang programs" were on the agenda yet they wanted to give them money. This is the corrupt Mayor we have in LA. Cardenas and his Ad Hoc on Gang Violence Committee better not give any more money to those gang programs. All reporters are waiting to see if he caves cause his Bro just got a job.

I know from personal experience that Antonio Villaraigosa is a vicious, power-hungry politician who will not let true "people power", free-speech, or fair play get in his way. At bottom, he is a charming, energetic demagogue who cares more for himself and his own political advancement than he does about the welfare of the citizens of Los Angeles or the people of the USA. He's an Hispanic version of Huey Long.

Antonio has already gone on the record too many times and after MacArthur Park saying Bratton is the best and will be reappointed. He would look like the fool that he is if he retracks. Then you have all his big money backers supporting LAPD plus they're pissed at him for siding with illegals. Yes, we all know once the "real" videos that the media failed to show coming out next week the people will see what really went on. Cholo mayor is looking bad to all sides. Bratton isn't going anywhere. He took the heat for Antonio and his advisors, who suggested Antonio "distance himself both literally and figuratively" from the anniversary of the march. More scrutiny on Bratton, less on Antonio's lack of leadership. Bratton will probably get a raise!
Yup word is Antonio is being highly criticized for acting like the coward he is and bailing on the city. He knew what was going down and like a snake he left town. Bratton will be reappointed because people are tired of the photo op Mayor doing nothing for his own people and spending money on his rich friends giving developers like Richard Meurelo and Casden all the big properties in downtown LA. Anyone what is going on in the STeve Westley camp against Antonio? Something big is brewing word is.

LAPD copers can't stand the ACLU loving, gang banger Mayor. You watch the number of cops drop and no recruits. Who wants to work in a city when you have a mayor supporting criminals and supporting gang bangers? LAPD already lost 300 in April and that number will rise by the end of summer. Another failure for him will be having more cops then previous mayors.

Why isn't the media going after him for lying about being with his wife? Poor Corina hasn't been seen in almost 2 years with that lame ass fool.
