GET READY FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS

Now that Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has four out of seven LAUSD school board members in his back pocket (Garcia, Galatzan, Vladowhatshisname and Yoli Aguilar), the mayor will no longer appeal AB 1381. He has what he needs; control of the school construction budget.

In related matters, watch for CM Richard Alarcon (Antonio's lead muppet) to use his Education and Neighborhood Chair position to create some kind of motion that will allow the mayor's school board to start building Charter schools.

Then, Eli Broad and Richard Riordan's dream comes true: They get to build all those Charter schools, one by one, and drive up the costs with over-runs, and a bunch of add ons...and that's how you get control of the $20 billion plus LAUSD school board budget. Alarcon is already preparing to set up some kind of "education office".

ZD has said mayor takeover of LAUSD was all about the school construction budget. If Alarcon motions to start building these Charter schools, let's put in an amendment that Broad can't build any more than anyone else.

You're only seeing the toenail of the elephant, ZD.

It's not about Broad... or, rather, it's not JUST about Broad...

There are a host of campaign contributors foaming at the mouth over all that money.

Whore Antonio will be servicing as many as he can.

Braod is a Billionaire who is a philanthropist and a giver.

He doesn't need to make any money doing this and doesn't. He is not in active business anymore. You show your ignorance when you write drivel like this.

Riordan is the same. Go get some new pinadas.

Did it ever occur to you that LAUSD is totally disfunctional and people who care about kids are doing this to upgrade education in LA? Since you see conspiracies under every rock, I guess not, but maybe you should look at people like Riordan who has given millions of his own money away to kids in the South for computers, at least $10 million that I know of, and without any ulterior motive or benefit to himself.

Wise up Dodo, not everyone is a scam artist like you and your buddies selling tee shirts and incense and not paying taxes, rent or being licensed.

Ok what is going on here and who is in charge? I think Laura Chick N Shit is lying to protect Antonio.
Zuma would do you think??? Again great job bringing up excellent issues to clowncil.

Antonio gang plan criticized
....The criticism surfaced Friday as City Controller Laura Chick said she has notified the mayor that she will not proceed with a planned audit of the city's anti-gang programs...The review had been hailed by the mayor as a key to streamlining the effectiveness of city anti-gang efforts, but Chick said the audit grew politicized, funding for it never materialized and council members set an unrealistically short deadline.

"I've never had so much active participation on the part of so many people telling me what the scope should be," she said. "I have to defend the independence of the Controller's Office."

(Szabo) He also said the mayor hopes Chick will reconsider her decision to not perform the audit, and noted that funds for overtime to put more police on the streets are key to gang-intervention efforts....Rice notes that officials have found millions of dollars to subsidize hotel construction at downtown's l.a.live sports-entertainment-retail complex, restore fire-ravaged Griffith Park, put on parades and even install high-tech public toilets. "When do kids count more than this stuff?" she asked. "It's a matter of priorities."

NOW CONNIE RICE KNOWS WHAT WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THESE MORONS ON CLOWNCIL.

Riordan is about as concerned about the welfare of these children as he is about his wife as she struggles with cancer.

Remember the "stupid, dirty girl"?

Well, he just left his wife in the middle of her cancer treatment.

He's a phony. I've never been gladder that Schwarzenegger fucked him over in his ambitions to be governor.

At least we won't have to endure a Riordan administration in Sacramento.

As for Broad wanting to make more money: Jeez, 12:59... do you really think the leopard changes his spots? Broad has always wanted to make money. He's still developing, and still lusting after the almighty dollar.

Broad isn't just a giver.

He's a pretty good "taker" too.

Didn't he just wrangle hundreds of millions of dollars from the city for his downtown development?

12:59 stinks of flak.

Read all the millions of dollars of development going on in just downtown. downtownnews.com.

Crap on every other part of the city and invest millions in downtown. But wait, the illegals will move to LA in force and downtown will look even worst then it does now.

Today's incredible story in the Daily News deserves it own post. Chick doesn't want to "politicize" her office? Give me a break. Hahn would still be mayor if she didn't launch her "pay-for-play" crap.

I agree with 12:59 that LAUSD is in deep trouble.

But I disagree with 12:59 that Broad & Riordan are doing this just out of the goodness of their hearts. They both want power, and now they have it with MAV.

Why did Broad oppose cityhood for the Valley? He never once mentioned how the Valley gets the short end of city services.

No--he opposed Valley cityhood because if it happened LA would be a shell of its former self, and a less attractive fiefdom for Broad to run from behind the scenes.

Broad is typical of those westside liberals who talk about helping people & making government responsive, but then do things to make it only happens for them in their cushy gated communities.

Riordan--he just goes where the power is, and switches his beliefs when it suits him. So now he's with Broad & advocating school reform. Tomorrow he'll support Guiliani as the GOP nominee. Next he'll suck up to the superthief Michael Milken.

6:50--you were right--it was great when Arnold punked Riordan during the recall.

Of the 19 developments in downtown how many are Richard Meuerlo's Riordan, Broad, Casden, or any of the other corrupt developers Antonio takes campaign money from.

On the Laura Chick N Shit gang issue something is gotta to give. The clowncil is telling no no you can't audit those gang programs and Laura is saying Antonio is telling her yes yes audit them. This is all a smoke screen and they're all playing a game to hide the corruption of those programs. Too bad we have gutless media who are too afraid to go after the inside of this story themselves. No wonder the LA reporters write for newspapers that have declined big time in readers.

While I agree with you on a lot of points you are completely wrong on this one. First of all, charter schools for the most part are not going to be constructed with LAUSD New Facilities money. Secondly, the district is already in a 2 billion dollar shortfall because of cost overages, rising construction costs, increased land cost and less state matching grants. I do agree that the giving isnt solely for the sake of being good, but in this case, the gift has nothing to do with controlling the construction dollars of the district.
