Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Thursday

Zach Behrens at LAist posts an excellent article concerning budget cuts to the City's 311 information hotline service. At a time when communication between the city and its constituents is more important than ever, this is a boneheaded move. The cuts will eliminate the service's graveyard shift as well as the service request system where city residents can easily call in and ask for the very basic services of City government such as pothole repair, bulky item pickup, etc. During a discussion on the feasibility of picking up bulky items from apartment buildings in Wednesday's Council meeting, Council Member Greuel highlighted the ability of residents to call 311 for this very purpose. Not for much longer apparently. Lets hope calmer heads prevail.

More after the leap!

Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez will serve as an official in Hillary Clinton's campaign for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. Some observers think this is key to the New York Senator getting the much sought after support of none other than Mayor Villaraigosa.

LA Weekly asks a great question when it comes to the issue of fighting gangs and graffiti in LA: "Where are the adults?"

Expect a dust-up on the City Budget between City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo and Mayor Villaraigosa.

CurbedLA has some recent shots of the under construction new LAPD/LAFD emergency operations center.

The Reason Foundation has issued an interesting report showing a market based solution to to relieve traffic.

What I'd like cut from 3-1-1 is the bilingual voice-mail greeting from Mayor Villaraigosa....

Yesterday the Clowncil approved a monthly tax uh I mean fee to be assessed apartment owners and apartment renters to pay for bulky item pickup.

Of course now that they're charging the fee for pickup, they're getting rid of the hotline to request the service.

Typical LA bullshit.

Why cut 311 and add fees to businesses when we do things like this. The organization deveopers should pay for all of it; not $80K

Council District Fourteen has received a request that the City provide certain services and declare this function a Special Event. The estimated City costs to facilitate this event total $246,655, and the event sponsor has agreed to reimburse the City approximately $80,000. Approval of this request will mean that the City will absorb an estimated $166,655 in fees and salary costs. (Event Coordinator: Nora Ricci - 310/914-1925 and Fax: 310/914-9085).
THEREFORE MOVE that the "Fiesta Broadway" be declared a Special Event, and City departments be requested to waive all fees and costs, except insurance and application requirements.

The mayor has proposed reducing the Bureau of Street Services' budget by 11percent, or $18million less than its current spending. The cut means the city will resurface 25 fewer miles of streets than last year, but in exchange it will slurry-seal 100miles of streets to extend their life.

The budget also calls for trimming fewer trees, pushing the cycle from a trim every nine years to a trim every 10 years.

But Parks made it clear he thinks all city programs are open for cuts - including the mayor's plan to increase funds for the L.A. Police Department to hire 780 police officers.

YEAH RIGHT ASSHOLE. YOU MADE US LOSE OFFICERS CAUSE YOU WERE A DICK TO THE BOYS IN BLUE NOW YOU WANT TO CUT MORE MONEY. IDIOT

Fiesta Broadway has major corporate sponsors and Jose Sleazy Huizy gives them a free pass? WHY? This is true abuse of the special event waivers and I hope Zuma Dogg goes after Jose.

Laura Chick N Shit has an abuse fraud hotline yet she fails to go after what Connie Rice has said is $82 million wasted on gang programs. Now if the Mayor is saying we need every penny how could they allow all the money to be wasted? Now the Mayor wants to give the gang programs an additional $168 million. Where are the LA reporters when you need them?

Laura Shitty said in budget committee meeting that her office outsources 20% to outside auditors. Am I the only one that sees a red flag here? How much is this costing the taxpayers?
