Mayor Sam's Blogbits for Tuesday
We reported on this previously. Looks like the City is one step closer to accepting a donation to the LAPD from the Philip Morris company. Though I suspect the City Council will be under significant pressure from liberal groups to reject the grant.
How does Time Warner cable stay out of trouble with City Hall? Build a high speed fiber optic network for the building.
The LA Homeless Blog ribs our own Joe Mailander for his suggestion of yurts as potential short term low income housing. Unlike primitive dwellings on the steppes of Asia, modern yurts are sort of like the next generation of the domes Ted Hayes innovated years ago.
We're going to be keeping an eye on the Van Nuys neighborhood that the LAUSD is trying to raid to build a new school. Residents of all races held a block party over the weekend to protest the move, as detailed by Here in Van Nuys.
The California Majority report takes a brief look at the first year of LA planning guru Gail Goldberg. Their suggestion: invite her to your local Neighborhood Council.
LA Voice: Culver City is hot.
Continued degeneration of the fan experience at Dodger Stadium via LA Voice. This old, dead Republican mayor was headed to Orange County Saturday evening and saw fans' cars backed up from Stadium Way on the 5 all the way north to Victory Boulevard on the 134. Traffic south of the stadium was a dream.
Curbed LA runs the same letter as we did from a landlord who feels "raped" by rent control and growing eviction relocation fees. One of their genius readers compares investment property ownership to "slavery." Shows you what we're dealing with in Los Angeles.
A mystery Whole Foods market is going to open up somewhere in Los Angeles according to Curbed LA. NIMBYs better get on alert.
Despite passing the test, a military veteran is getting the run around trying to take an open librarian position with the County of LA. Feds are currently investigating a discrimination case based on his military service status.
Yet another Lloyd Levine photo op. He ran the Boston Marathon and finished in just over three hours.

Addendum to "Blogbits for Tuesday:"
Let's say you have a blog with multiple contributors and it is called Mayor Sam's Sister City...
One of your contributors, Mayoral candidate Walter Moore, writes a post that endorses the idea that rent control is similar to rape (for property owners). Obviously this will hurt his Mayoral campaign, as any sensible person doesn't get the metaphor.
I would rather that my daughter own a rent controlled building than be raped!
Walter Moore's post originally shows up on Sunday afternoon, is quickly deleted, then re-appears late Monday night as a post by Mayor Sam. Yet smart people will look at the first few comments and realize they are dated earlier than the post itself, and one is addressed to Walter rather than Mayor Sam.
What is going on with this blog? Shouldn't a feature like "Blogbits for Tuesday" allow Mayor Sam to explain how this situation occured? And apologize to women everywhere for the comparison of rent control to rape?
Mayor Sam said:
I am responding here just so down the road someone can't google and use this against Walter.
Walter never posted this article. He never made said rent control is like rape. It was the property owner who wrote a letter about the experience.
The person who is making these claims has a vendetta against Walter and is lying.
Also check other blogs that ran this owner's story BEFORE Mayor Sam did.

Hey guy you know Mayor Sam has monitoring and can find out who you are and then expose you if you are bogus. Mayor Sam says and we know Walter did not post the story and so do you. I am curious who you really are and I hope Mayor Sam can tell us.

When Bitter Bernie comes out in support of saying its ok for Phillip MOrris to donate and its for crime prevention and it happens all the time then I agree. BUT and its a huge BUT we have idiot council members who are morons and don't get it although ask how many donations they've taken that really is corrupt? I've been impressed with Alarcon so far. He's putting the babies to shame being in his seat on time and asking the intelligent questions. I'm sure he's scratching his head wondering how those clowns got elected.

I love Alarcon too. He was great today. Intelligent questions, wow, where'd they find him again?

TWC is a disaster. they are the worst company the City could have given this lucrative franchise to. calling them for anything is a painfully time consuming experience. they charge too much, provide too little and got where they are by buying their way in to Los Angeles. Get rid of them!
