Pinch Hit Hot Sheet for Friday
Yes, it is Friday the 13th. The Mayor may have power issues---just a guess, as we've heard from people in the Valley with issues---so here goes a pinch hit at bat for the Mayor's Hot Sheet for Friday.
Power, in fact, remains an issue for the City a day after the gusting, with so many felled trees and lines. Don't you just love the way the City falls apart when someone blows on it? What if we had these windstorms four times a month, the way most real cities do?
Two items of note in CityWatchLA. One is the way they frame the rent relocation fee vote. "Council Triples Tenant Relocation Fees." Owners who hope to convert condos will also have to pay up to $2300 a unit into the City's Affordable Housing Trust Fund. Have you ever personally known a single person to benefit from that fund?
The other funny thing in CityWatch: Some City teens are going to run a mock NC board. We're betting on the teens to make their session more interesting than the real thing gets.
The Dodger Stadium parking meltdown faces its first big weekend, the Daily News says. "Team officials say that mess isn't a fair way to evaluate the new system. "
LA Parks ban trans fats! How's that for Nanny State decisiveness. Does this ban have real teeth and include concessions at the Greek Theater---or is it just for the children and seniors and vending machines?
My own week-long debate with Urbanist Professor Peter Dreier, at the LATimes news opinion page on housing issues concludes today. Not a moment too soon. They'll post it a little after noon---they wouldn't want to get bloggers talking about it, or anything. We'll both scope out our hopes and fears for LA housing in conclusion today.

ok, now I'm mad.
Is Linda Lucks insane?
that link is to a report she's presenting to the Venice Neighborhood Council. she's chair of the stupid f*cking Ocean Front Wank Committee. the dumbest most pathetic Brown Act state law violating piece of sh*t ad hoc wipe my bum group I ever had the misfortune to have to vomit over.
the report says : "no changes"
so keep enforcing the ordinance.
Excuse me Ms Lucks, did all the NoRML pot affect your brain cells?
Magistrate Judge Suzanne Segal from the federal court issued a document on Feb. 23. THAT's A CHANGE!!!!
Judge says that 'rocky' (city attorneys) argues that me and Mike Hunt don't have a case because you got a new ordinance now. She says that don't matter, because theres no guarantee that rocky won't bring that same sh*t back in another ordinance. and guess what? you did bring it back. and the only bit you took out was the good bit that judge Segal likes, and that nominal utility bullsh*t that you put in Federal Judge Dean Pregerson says is 'vague'.
I have both of these documents if you want to see them, if you got off your dumbass and actually contacted the stakeholders, yes stakeholders, who are running this lawsuit.
Segal also states that the SUPREME COURT ruled that you can't differentiate 'the sale' part of the speech from the 'expressive' part of the speech.
This ordinance prevents 'the sale' based on the useful nature of the item???????? wtf??
f*ck the protected speech part is what you're saying.
do you get that????
that's what you're saying in the ordinance. I have that document.
Better yet, call our top class First Amendment attorney, Steve Rohde of Rohde Victoroff.
ask him one question: Is 42.15 constitutional? see, he's an expert. I have his expert opinion on paper too.
I'm coming to the meeting because this 'report' is the actual proof of everything we said a month ago on this blog.
Now you're perpetuating your own 'ostrich' bullshit, after we already slammed you with the documents at the meeting, when you had a 'lawsuit update' on the agenda, and YOU DIDN"T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE OUR 6 MONTH LAWSUIT!!!!!!!
what don't you get?
how about jail time for anyone on neighborhood council who votes to continue enforcement in the face of this litigation. if anyone gets arrested after I put you all on the record, that's what comes next.
This is fundamental first amendment lawsuit here with the boardwalk. you have to meet the compelling standard, which also includes 'narrowly tailored', and this broad nominal utility bullshit doesn't cut it.
tell neighborhood council the truth, after all, they're the ones who wrote the letter to City Council in 2004 advising them that they were AGAINST the ordinance in the first place.
AGAINST IT!!!
I have that document too.
you have my number. what time is that meeting? I'm licking my lips at the choiceness of the language I'll be spewing at that meeting. get CH. 35 to cover it. it'll be worth it.
