Mayor Sam's Blogbits for Monday
A blog called the Conservative Revolutionary American Party reprints a Christian Science Monitor piece about the changing labor movement in Los Angeles.
Video Louis at St. NOHO blogs about Foothill Division LAPD officers doing a good deed and helping a stranded motorist.
CityWatch's "Blog Soup" continues to go sour. The latest entry is a rehash of a Rick Orlov piece in the Daily News. Note to CityWatch: The Daily News is not a blog.
Eminent domain watch has the story of a neighborhood in Van Nuys that is going to be ripped apart to build a new LAUSD school, despite the fact that other available land is nearby.
LA CityNerd is calling for better resources for those who wish to volunteer to do community service in Los Angeles. His answer is for City Hall to manage this - but he also points out that they have done a pretty crappy job of this. Why is the city's role? Organizations in Los Angeles should band together to promote their projects and seek the volunteers they need. Oh wait! They already have!

The main point was that the City needs volunteers to operate as a successful municipality (not "city" as in commnuity, but actually the "City" as an entity). If someone wants to just serve the community, there are definitely better sources than the City's website (obviously); but with the City's push to engage more citizens - they should make it easier to find ways to get involved. Web-based applications of engagement are an easy, cost-effective way to do this... as this blog demonstrates!
