Tilden to Re-Join KABC

Peter Tilden, who was formerly spinning country tunes on KZLA, will be joining the staff of KABC radio filling the void left by the resignation of the former Mr. KABC, now Marc Germain.

As far as I know, the blonde in the photo is not joining him.

Tilden will be hosting a program entitled "America's Earliest Morning Show." According to the best information I have right now, this program will run from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. prior to "Red Eye Radio" with Kevin James from 2:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. Syndicated host Mark Levin's 9:00 p.m. show will be bumped from one to two hours, one of the reasons Germain left the station.

Like Doug McIntyre, Tilden has had a long career in television writing and producing. He previously helmed hosted shows on KABC and its former sister alternative talk station KMPC 710Talk (now ESPN Radio), including some time as a co-host to longtime morning man Ken Minyard.

McIntyre will interview Tilden Tuesday morning.

In other KABC related news, occasional Germain sidekick April Winchell broke the news that syndicated KABC morning host and Fox News talker Bill O'Reilly allegedly demanded a helicopter and fresh baked croissants during a recent visit to KABC's studios.

THANK YOU KABC for moving Kevin James into an earlier time slot. Kevin holds no punches, and now he'll have a larger audience. GREAT news for Los Angeles.

Mayor Sam are you saying that O'Reilly was holding hostages at KABC's studios?

Kevin James is a fantastic host although I've only been able to listen to him when he occasionally subs for Al Rantel. IMHO, KABC should replace Larry Elder with Kevin at 3:00pm. Until then, it's John and Ken.

Does anyone know if any of the KABC talk radio hosts are attending the anti-amnesty for illegal aliens rally (sponsored by www.fairus.org) in Washington D.C. from April 22 to April 25?

It would be great if Doug McIntyre, Al Rantel and/or Kevin James attended. We need their strong voices and help against the open borders and ethnic lobby groups.

790 KABC appears to be their own worst enemy.

First, they lose Mr KABC to K-Talk 1150 -- so now Larry Elder gets to compete with that. (DIDN'T THINK OF THAT DID YOU ABC RADIO CORPORATE IN NYC.

Then they let Mark Isler continue to talk about Groucho Marx and Steve Lawrence and Edie Gormet all night long. (Nice nostalgia show for the 70 plus crowd.)

NOW -- they pass over Kevin James, and bring back Peter Tilden???

Most stations try to contemporize and move things forward: Watch out Doug...seems like KABC is hell bent on destorying the station and you're the only good thing left.

If they are calling Peter Tilden "The earliest morning show" -- and it's at 11pm-2am. ZD says, look for them to repeat the 11-2 hours from 2a-5a (like KFI does with their flying saucer show.)

I hope I am wrong...but 11pm is the latest afternoon drive show -- NOT the earliest morning show.

SELL YOUR STOCK IN ABC - They are hell bent on tanking the station.

Personally, I think they simply did not want the heat Kevin James brings the now nostalgia based, senior citizen based, demographic media anvil.

First of all, I am a young, thirty-something CONSERVATIVE native Californian ( a rarity, I know!).

All I can tell you is that ALL, let me repeat...ALL of my family, friends, co workers, and acquaintences have ONLY, let me repeat....ONLY one CONCERN about this city....ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!!!! Most of my friends are raving liberals and ALL OF THEM are against illegal immigration, the Governor and most especially, the MEXICAN MAYOR of Los Angeles!!!!!!!

KEVIN JAMES is by far the most focused and passionate about this issue! He is unrelenting!!!!
HE CARES!!!!!!

KABC needs to put him on in PRIME TIME!!!!KEVIN JAMES IN PRIME TIME!!!!

Levine is the WORST!!!!! The second I hear his shrill, shreiking voice....I quickly change the station! He is unlistenable!

Al Rantel is great...albeit a little slow!

KEVIN AND DOUG ARE THE TWO SUPERSTARS.....IF THEY ARE EVER FORCED TO RESIGN...I WILL NEVER LISTEN TO KABC AGAIN!

PUT KEVIN IN LARRY ELDER'S SPOT...LARRY SHOULD BE REPLACED.

ABOVE ALL, DEPORT THE ILLEGALS AND GET RID OF VILLABOZO!!!! THIS CITY IS THE TITANIC AND IT IS SINKING RAPIDLY. THERE IS NO TIME LEFT!!! DO IT NOW!!!!

THANK YOU!

I am not a talk show listener so the news about Peter Tilden returning to the radio is a complete surprise to me. I do not know who Kevin James is and I am sorry for those who feel that moving his show around is terrible. Having Peter Tilden back on the air is absolutely wonderful!

KABC is really going in the wrong direction. They mess with the two guys who get the highest ratings. I don't know who listens to their station that always wants to talk about Groucho Marx, fig newtons or Anna Nicole.

The only two hosts worth anything are Doug and Kevin. Oh, and Leon Kaplan on Sunday mornings. Larry Elder and Al Rantel are great guys but have kind of faded as of late. Bill O'Reilly is a clown. Sean Hannity is a one trick Bush pony. Mark Levin is not entertaining. How interesting is one and now two hours of a shrill voiced New Yorker screaming "You stupid liberal"?

Okay I'm confused. Mayor Sam, you have both hosts listed as on from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. PLEASE tell me Kevin James isn't getting pushed back to 2 a.m.

AW,

Bad news. There is only going to be ONE host between 11p-5a and that is Peter Tilden, for some reason. There is no way KABC radio is gonna pay a host and screener for three hours at 2a-3a.

The now "tanked" signal will simply repeat the 11p-2a hours, from 2a-5a for everyone who didn't listen in the first place.

SO thanks to ABC Radio (Corporate out of New York), they forced managment to add ratings anvil Mark Levin an extra hour to 11pm.

And that ONE hour was enough to cause a chain reaction that caused the station to lose Mr. KABC and instead of promoting the FANTASTIC rising star, Kevin James -- they are going in a backward direction, with Peter Tilden -- catering to the Geritol crowd. So now you can hear Mark Isler talk about Groucho Marx, Steve Lawrence, The Eisenhower era and talk about how "the world a better place when Leave It to Beaver was on TV", then Willard Scott can wish them "Happy Birthday" to on the Today Show.

Hopefully Kevin will get scooped up by another station -- and there will be only one reason to tune into KABC -- DOUG MAC!!! Sorry Larry, your show is no longer local, only national. And after Bill and Sean, I'm ready for local issues. So, hello John and Ken and Mark "Mr. K" Germain.

I bet KFI picks up the great Kevin James.

ZD, thanks for the clarification. To quote Phil Hendrie, that really blows chipmunks.

If I was running KFI, I'd seize this opportunity to show John Zeigler the door and bring Kevin James onboard from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

That would be an excellent line up to have Kevin James follow John and Ken every night. Ziegler has to go. Then put April Winchell from 10-1 and you can tape delay the UFO show from 1 to 5.

I agree with many of the above comments. I've been a loyal listener to LA talk radio for ten years, and I can say IMHO that the best hosts are:

-Doug McIntyre, mornings (although he can lose the "other news" fluff)

-John and Ken, late afternoon

-Al Rantel, early evening

-Kevin James, when he subs (and he should move to KFI and replace the convoluted, screeching Ziegler)

Levine's high-pitched voice is nauseating and an instant turn-the-dial, Larry Elder has lost his luster supporting Bush's quagmire, and the national hosts like O'Reilly and Hannity are, often, egotisical blowhards.

Zuma's remarks on ..."now you can hear Mark Isler talk about Groucho Marx, Steve Lawrence, The Eisenhower era..." are hysterical!

Loved Mr. KABC (and April Winchell) and the passionate Kevin James! What fools be KABC to replace these gems to partially accommodate a jerk in need of a serious exorcism, Mark Levin.

Would happily dump Larry (yawn) Elder.

Totally agreed with the above two comments and Antonio Watch re the fantastic fantasy suggestion for Kevin...

-Doug McIntyre, mornings (although he can lose the "other news" fluff)

-John and Ken, late afternoon

-Al Rantel, early evening

-Kevin James, when he subs (and he should move to KFI and replace the convoluted, screeching Ziegler)

and Mayor Sam's comment...

April Winchell from 10-1 and you can tape delay the UFO show from 1 to 5.

Took me a bit to like Kevin James but he was a great overnight host. KABC is acting like he never existed. Tonight Mark 'yawn' Eisler cut off a caller who just mentioned Kevin's name! Way to show appreciation KABC. I am a long term listener (Ray Briem) but you are sending me to KFI. I already go there between 3pm & 7pm. Eisler's 'soft talk' is sickeningly sweet.

KABC is bent on losing market share. 'Live and local' has turned 'lied and loco.' This 25-year veteran listener will change the dial promptly at 9am weekdays, when Doug leaves the microphone. The rest of the lineup is for the Geritol crowd--KABC seems to have fallen and can't get up.

I'm not a Red Eye listener, but I used to plug in headphones and hear as much as I could of Kevin James. I didn't want to miss a show. I felt informed when I listened by Kevin James and by many excellent callers. I don't know how these folks are up listening to the radio in the wee hours of the morning -- what a loss for them! I sure hope Kevin James gets a new gig at a better hour because I will definitely be in the audience.

From the Orange County Register: Country music boy, Peter Tilden, had the plug pulled on his country music show in the summer of 2006. He was paid under his contract through March. "I am very happy to bring Peter back to KABC. ...(He) is a creative person and he has some great ideas for this late-night show," Operations Director Erik Braverman said.

A country music radio talk show host who's show was CANCELLED replaces top-rated Kevin James red-eye program now I really smell a big fat rat!

Erik Braverman, you should not be allowed to make any more decisions because this one gets you an Oscar called the Bonehead Award!
