MEMO TO THE "LA ANTONIA TIMES" regarding "EDUCATOR IN CHIEF"
Great "Chamber Of Commerce" Morning to all at the "OLD GREY HAG ON SPRING STREET". It is nice to know that even on a "SUMMER SUNDAY" in winter. The P.R. spinsters are on task in dishing the latest examples of opinions, as seen through the eyes of the elites.
To "CHIEF SPINMEISTER", Andres Martinez, we like to share some thoughts from the "WORLD OF REALITY" in regards to today's editorial " EDUCATOR IN CHIEF".
One must give you credit for being consistent in your call for mayoral control over the city's public schools. The Times has opined that lasting improvements require that one person be held accountable for the district's performance. That person, like in New York, should be the mayor. One may choose to agree (like your competition at the "MOLDY GREEN SHEET"), or want to break up the district into smaller entities, like Valley politician Keith Richman.
But the big question here is the fitness and motivation for Mayor Villaraigosa's attempt to do just that. Since you paper help clear the way for Villaraigosa's election to the Office of Mayor. Times scribes such as Duke "LITTLE DOOKIE" Helfand" and the spinmeisters in the editorial section have been ceaseless in promoting the mayor's "POWER OF SELF". But behind this "PERSONALITY OF HOPE", is a "POLITICAL BOSS" who tactics are wearing thin on the grass roots activists across the city.
Disregarding organizations such as ACORN, who were financed by the Mayor's education PAC. The selling of the Mayor's education reforms have fallen on deft ears. it doesn't help your cause when the constitutionality of the "Vehicle of Reform, AB 1381", is shot down by the court. Further, when builders and developers are the big money contributors, then the cynics have cause to question whether the Mayor is trolling for campaign dollors in his pursuit of higher office.
But on the streets, does the Mayor's personality hold any sway over the citizens of the city ? Besides one "WESTSIDE BLOGGER" and certain editorial writers , the average citizen is tuning off the Mayor in droves. Lets revisited some past events. When students walked out of schools over the Issue of Immigration, students who converged on City Hall, booed the Mayor when he implored them to return to class. In a recent incident, the Mayor was upstaged by "ZONER THE TAGGER", his offers to "MENTOR"the youth turn into a P.R. nightmare. In the recent elections, only single-digits amount of register voters bother to vote. Results in three of the four LAUSD districts showed that those voters, casted ballots against the Mayor's chosen candidates.
If a inquisitive citizen can see a trend here, then a scribe at the supposed "PAPER OF RECORD" should be able to report the "Vibe from the Streets". But then maybe this is why the inquiring mind waits to Thursday for the "WEEKLY OF RECORD" to report the facts.
To "JOURNALIST ANDRES" and other scribes at the "OLD GREY HAG ON SPRING STREET", I share your desire to see change in LAUSD, but the Mayor is not the person to effect that change.

I'm not totally against mayoral control, I just want to know what it is that he will do to fix the problems of LAUSD.
So far, all I've seen is 50 bullet points calling for things that will cost a huge amount of money or are already being done.
Once the Mayor comes out with a detailed road-map to reform, something that won't require a 20-30% increase in funding from the state, (something I don't see happening) I'll look at his plans and re-evaluate.
For now, for those of us in the classroom, we have to deal with the reality of the situation. While the Mayor and his puppets pontificate about reform, we in the classrooms need action now.
The building program over the past 4 years is a nice start. For the first time in a decade, all of the students at my school will live in our area. CAP busing ends, thanks to new schools over the hill.
Memo to the school board, how about as we wind down the construction projects, we gut Beaudry. Send those necessary out to the mini-districts or school sites.
In this day and age of tele-communications, I do not understand why we need a fortress like Beaudry staffed with so many people.

I've had it with AV and his boosters pointing to the system in NYC to market his takeover plan. Apples and oranges!

For the record ('cause Mayor Sam's blog IS the official record, y'all),
ZD COULD absolutley be for Mayoral control of the schools, because reform IS needed, and ZD didn't walk into City Hall giving a F*CK, one way or the other about AB 1381 or the current members of LAUSD school board, or any of that.
But while inside Council chambers, awaiting my two minute public comment about Venice Beach, I started reading the agendas (the early version of AB 1381 was rolling through) -- and started listening to the other public comment speakers. Especially the day they voted on the then agenda item over the summer.
So, Smiley remined me with his post, that I wouldn't be against Mayoral control, in theory, because it could help break down barriers between the City and School System to get things done. (Deming COULD approve of this)...BUT, unfortunatley for Mayor Antonio and Nucklehead Nunez (Herb, how could you???), ZD actually READ AB 1381 and says it STINKS ON ICE!
And that's why ZD is against AB 1381 (plus all the shady underhanded tactics the Mayor and Nunez were forced to use to get this botched, compromised, Frankenstein Assembly bill though for a vote).
But it's all there in the AB 1381 legalease...Well actually it ISN'T there...NOTHING is -- except transfer of ALL budgetary spending power INCLUDING the highly coveted $20 billion plus school construction budget -- Eli Broad & Sesame Street Associated "crown jewel" of a budget hijackings!
MEANWHILE -- PLEASE SPIN ZD ON AB 1381:
I CHALLENGE ANYONE READING THIS TO SHOW ME WHERE IN AB 1381 IT SAYS ONE F*CKING SENTENCE REGARDING ACCOUNTABILITY, TRANSPARANCY, IMPROVING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT OR ONE THING THAT IS ACTUALLY ABOUT REFORMING THE SCHOOL AND ISN'T ABOUT A TRASNFER OF POWER, FOR THE INEVITABLE TRANSFER OF FUNDS.
Seriously: Please post it here, or email it to me at zumadogg@netzero.com, because I would HATE to think I am against mayor control for the wrong reason.

Why do the same people who hate this blog so much continue visiting?
I tend to not expose myself to things that annoy me.
For example, something that annoyed me was the way The City of Los Angeles does buisness with its residents.
So, I moved out of LA City and into a part of LA County that has its own utility company instead of DWP. And we have our own fantastic school system and huge open park about 500 feet from my front door.
And now I save money in the long run, because I don't have to send my kids to private school, my water and power bill is under control and I'm not taxed to death by the city to pay for all of their liberal B.S.

Didn't anyone see Hizzoner with Laurel Erickson on KNBC this morning? Stammering, easily knocked off script, exhausted---man, he looks almost as bad as me! I wanted to take notes, but I was too exhausted by it. I'd love a transcript.
Hey, and Laurel, thanks for reading.

Matt,
good evening, I hope sales were brisk today. typing to a little acoustic Steve Earle.
Joseph,
spaeking of reading, did meander over to to the "Martini". Great observation on the role, or lack of, that the editorials of the "MOLDY GREEN SHEET" and the "LA ANTONIA TIMES" had in the Tuesday elections.
Time to catch on my "GOVERNMENT REGULATED SLEEP CYCLE".
