Moore to Run for Mayor

Walter Moore has been teasing his appearance Friday morning on KABC's Doug McIntyre radio program.

This old, dead Republican Mayor is guessing our fellow blogger and good friend will announce his intention to run for Mayor of Los Angeles in the 2009 election.

Walter has announced his candidacy on his website, announcing his plans to raise some serious money and qualify for city matching funds. Supporters who wish to make a donation to Walter's committee can do so here. Mayor Sam will be sending Walter his first of hopefully many checks in the next few days. If each person who voted for Walter in the 2005 Mayoral Primary were to contribute just $30, this would lead Walter to be eligible for matching funds and get him into all the debates he was shut out of.

Also announcing a Mayoral bid on Thursday is San Fernando Valley businessman and activist, David Hernandez.

Insiders are telling the Sister City that Councilwoman Janice Hahn is also planning on taking out papers shortly to run for Mayor.

We're only three days out from election 2007 and we're gearing up for 2009.

In case you were to ask, your blogger-in-chief has no plans to run for office in 2009. If nominated I will not run, if elected I will not serve.

Blog away dum dums.

Walter,

Kevin James aksed me yesterday, on-the-air, if you were running becasue he hoped you were.

Meanwhile check THIS, disenfranchised voters. And remember, ZD had problems with the County Clerks Office, as well:

Election Day Problems
Yesterday morning I went to cast my ballot at the San Pedro Elks Lodge (the address on my sample ballot) and my name was not on the voter rolls.

I had to file a provisional ballot and it concerned me. Especially because other people might not have bothered with a provisional ballot and just gone home...And who would have blamed them?

I am asking the City Clerk to look into this incident and a few others that have been reported to my office. If you had a similar experience when trying to vote yesterday, please let me know. You can call my office at 213/473-7015 or email me at janice.hahn@lacity.org.

Here is a copy of the press release I put out and the letter I sent to the Clerk asking for an investigation: http://www.lacity.org/council/cd15/hot/cd15hot249143802_03072007.pdf

A: CM Janice Hahn

ps: did hahn file for mayor yesterday?

Thanks guys!

Sam, you crazy insomniac, you scooped me, by monitoring my late-night web posting and tweaking! You're just too darn good at your job!

This time it's going to be different, because this time I will indeed ask people for money. The L.A. Times, Daily News and local TV stations showed in 2005 that they ignore anyone unless he raises money. Lesson learned.

The good news is, it really won't take that much to get me into the debates, and then into the Mayor's office. I'm counting on each of you to cough up at least $30. Thanks in advance. Let's make this happen.

P.S. If just HALF the people who voted for me send $30, I'll be in the debates. However, all of those who voted for me, and everyone else, is urged to send $30 or more.

Anonymous Anonymous said:

How about if all the people sent you $15? Would that TCB?

March 09, 2007 1:37 AM

Blogger Walter Moore said:

Yes.

Here's how it works: any combination of contributions that totals $150,000, PROVIDED that each such contribution is $500 or less.

An individual can -- and indeed should -- send up to $1000, but for purposes of matching funds, the Ethics Commission only counts $500 of the $1000.

So, for example, if 300 people sent me $500 each, I'd be in the debates (300 x 500 = $150,000), and I'd receive $150,000 in matching funds.

Other combos that would work: 500 people send $300; 1500 people send me $100; or 3000 people send me $50.

It's completely do-able.

Yeah, let's see if Walter can raise a bunch of money and creep up toward Alarcon's vote total this time around. At least last time he had an interesting theory - that if Republican voters turned out to vote for the only Republican in the race, he had a chance. But no one ever heard of him because he couldn't get heard with no campaign money. Now he might have enough money to reach out to them but he says he's no longer a Republican!

If what he writes here is indicative of his platform, rotsa ruck giving them any other reason to vote for him!

my prediction from here: Janice Hahn. the AV backlash will sweep her in, a landslide. They made James Hahn pay for hiring Bratton, sacking Bernie.
but the name recognition alone for her is beyond measurement. she'll be endorsed, well funded, and have multi ethnic appeal, AND the 'woman' factor, which could prove trendy in 09.

I like Walter but the recent elections proved some things. Developers don't like new people in office.

Walter,

Well, I tuned into McIntyre this morning and wasn't disappointed! I'm probably what you would call your base: a single-family homeowning, college educated, middle-class professional who is disgusted with the over development orgy and third-worldization of this mismanaged city, and how Villaraigosa and the clowncil will not even acknowledge these realities. And yes, if I haven't fled by 2009, I'll probably vote for you (again).

That said, before I whip out the check book to support your worthy campaign, please clarify your change of heart. It was very recently that you were taking French lessons, your wife was looking for rentals in the south of France, and you said this city has incurable cancer etc. etc. So I assume you're in this for the duration and staying at least for a couple more years??

Thank you all for your support. I really appreciate it. And do share any ideas for specific policies that you feel would benefit the city, regardless of whether you think they're politically feaible just yet.

As for the change of heart, yes, indeed, this city has gotten so terrible that, unless I win, we're fleeing to France, because this city is headed in the wrong direction. Correction: plummeting in the wrong direction.

But it really pained me simply to write off the second-biggest city in America, a city that was truly wonderful when I moved here in 1984. I reviewed the numbers from the 2005 election -- dollars per vote, dollars per percentage of the vote, etc. -- and knew that, unless I ran now, I'd wonder till my dying day if I could have saved L.A. just by running again and asking voters to chip in.

The numbers tell me it would take very little in the way of contributions to save this city. The price of an "admission ticket" to the mainstream media and the televised debates, as explained at my website, is just $150,000. In the big scheme of things, that's nothing: a $30 contribution from just half the people who voted for me would do the trick. And I had many people supporting me who live near, but not in, L.A.

The reason I lost last time was not my message. Rather, it was the media's refusal to cover a candidate unless that candidate raises $150,000. Most people who knew about me and my platform supported me; the problem was that not enough people knew about my campaign.

This recent City Council election just drove home to me just how much more appeal my message had than career politicians' message. In this last election, various City Council candidates spent a hundred times more money that I spent in 2005, but got just one third as many votes. In the 2005, election, moreover, I got over ten times more votes per $100 spent than my opponents. (Alas, they spent over 100 times as many dollars!)

So I'm "over" my distaste at asking for contributions, and I'm not worried you'll think I'm a special interest pawn. I need contributions to get into the game, and I'm asking for them. I want YOUR contribution. If you want to improve this city, and you're tired of Villaraigosa and the City Clowncil, put your money where your mouth is, and send me $30, $50 or $100.

If I win, great; we get to try to steer this city away from the rocks. (I know the captain will like that one.) The properties my wife and I are buying in France are apartment buildings, so we'lll just rent them out while we fix L.A., and maybe retire to France some day in the distant future. And if I don't win, then I will go to France knowing I did everything reasonably possible to save this City.

So get that checkbook out, because you've got one last chance to save L.A. before it gets so bad that you, too, decide to flee. C'mon. It's easier to write a $100 check than to pack all your stuff again. Let's make this happen. If I win, you'll get to call me America's first bloggin' mayor.

Tony Villar is ONLY here because the city picks the voters! The voters do not select the city officials thanks to the effing districting sham.

Unless and until we have a lawful redistricting structure in place, we will NEVER get these Mexican bums out of our city!

Walter...I wish you luck, but IMO, we need someone with name recognition who can debate the Mexican midget under the table...(that should be no problemo).

Don't forget, Villar probably has a million or more illegals here than 2 years ago, and he is praying that they will get amnesty before the election.

Villar will only win if he gets the Mexican vote. There is not ONE non-hispanic who would give him another chance.

Wake up LA...get out there NOW and find a viable candidate!!!!! Is there a Republican super star celebrity out there??? We need a guy like Schwarzenegger USED to be before he turned left wing Democrat!!!

Walter makes a reasoned argument. I'll be sending a check shortly, and urge others do so.

Even if he doesn't win (and you never know, he COULD win), if he gets into the debates he'll be able to voice the pressing issues that other candidates routinely ignore (e.g., S.O. 40, sanctuary city policies). (Walter, if you don't support a repeal of SO 40 and sanctuary city policies, please correct me).

So Mr. Exclamation Point guy (11:04), I would say support Walter and send a check. What's another $100 or so. Whether you like it or not, he's our best shot.

1:00pm,

First of all, how can YOU be so sure Hahn is NOT running for mayor with such certainty? You must know her quite well. And if so, hmmm...I must be wrong. I just heard certain people are trying to line up endorsements. But perhaps it's my, mistake.

Here's who has filed with the Ethics Commission, so far, so they can start raising "mo money, mo money, mo money!"

Mike Manley: Ran against Wesson as a write in candidate. He got somewhere around zero votes. (Seriously, Elections doesn't think he got any...so even if he did...it wasn't statstically relevant.)

Bruce Darian: Y'all know Big BD from Public Comments at Zuma Dogg's Van Nuys Chambers. Bruce has been representing the Mailbu Pier boondoggle from Van Nuys, long before ZD ever stepped into that chamber. So far, he's limited his comments to the problems of Malibu Pier, so I can't tell you anything more about his policy, besides the fact that he has a problem with Malibu Pier.

Walter Moore: yeah, yeah! needs no introduction. Don't let him move to France, y'all.

David Hernadez: Y'all know DH. He wants to take on Antonio for the hispanic base that now vomit at the name Villaraigosa. AND -- a big ZD hoooody hooooooo to Mr. Hernandez cause he's the guy who is fighting the Prop. R/Term Limits bamboolze that actually WEAKENED ethics/campagn reform. (See today's Daily News) But I should say David WAS leading the fight against Prop. R -- cause he's about to hand the ball to some folks with a lot more money and a lot more everything. AND NOW -- WITH THIS NEW GROUP BEHIND THE PROP. R LITIGATION -- ZD PREDICTS ONLY TWO YEARS FOR ALARCON (he's termed out if prop. r is overturned.) And a whole lot of shady politicians will be updating their resumes a whole bunch of years sooner -- and ADIOS to the lifetime healthcare. (I'm not happy about that part, but the point is, prop. r is just wrong.) But this is about David Hernadeaz and he, along with Bruce Darian, Walter Moore, Mike Manley -- but NOT Janice Hahn are running for mayor of the los angeles portion of this NAFTA region.

It's not a question of whether or not Janice Hahn will run for Mayor, but rather WHEN is she going to run?

Sure, she wants to get some payback for her brother and take out Mayor Villaraigosa. But she'll have to weigh her options and see if it's better for her to run now against him or wait until Mayor Villaraigosa makes his run to become Governor Villaraigosa, leaving the seat empty if he wins. If she waits, she'll have to worry about battling it out against Speaker Fabian Nuñez and possibly Laura Chick (who I'd love to see run for Mayor).

I'll make the prediction right now that Walter Moore pulls 2 - 4%, and so will Daniel Hernandez. Without big money, huge name ID endorsements, and without being part of the televised debates, it's next to impossible to break beyond that line in a Mayoral Election. Your numbers will go up 1 - 2% if you are able to get to participate in one of the debates.

Either way, good luck.
