ESCANDON TO SUPPORT KLEINER IN LAUSD DISTRICT 7 RUNOFF

While the "P.R. FISHWRAPS OF RECORD" led by the "LA ANTONIA TIMES" and the "MOLDY GREEN SHEET" are fixated on the LAUSD, big money runoff in the San Fernando Valley. Big news is breaking tonight in District 7, encompassing the area of South L.A. and San Pedro.

Jesus Escandon, the third place finisher with 22% of the vote in Tuesday's election. Has in a phone interview, announced that he will support Neil Kleiner in the May 15 runoff elect. Kleiner who was second with 33% compare to Richard Vladovic's 45%, welcomed the support in a conservation this evening.

Kleiner, a retired middle-school principal, is actively fund raising for his runoff challenge against Vladovic, who is supported by the Mayor. That support may be working against him. Kleiner and Escandon received a combine 55% of the vote on election day. this despite the six-figure war chest and high profile endorsements of Vladovic.

Good old fashion footwork, compare to money may be the key to this race. UTLA has not endorse anyone in this race. It may be that UTLA President A.J. Duffy is playing politics, considering that Kleiner has been consistent with his opposition to the Mayor's takeover and AB 1381.

Escandon, for his part, stated that Kleiner, if elected would go about his duties with an open mind. Further, he would be a ceaseless advocated for his South L.A. district, if elected.

For the record, I have endorse Neil Kleiner for this seat. I have met Neil and some of his former students at John Muir Middle School. Neil is a strong advocated for a clean and green environment. he has stood with community activists, who fought the Mayor's attempted takeover. Yet Neil is not blinded to the fact that reforms are needed in LAUSD.

We in life, are lucky when we met people of character such as Neil Kleiner. He'll need all the support he can get. Please visit Neil's website kleinerforschoolboard.org and support him anyway you can.

Red Spot,
I agree with what you're saying, but for your own credibility, proofread and run grammar check before you post. You also link to Kleiner's e-mail, not website.

somebody asked "who listens to Matt Dowd anyway" ?

The European Union does!!!
After my lightbulb rant on the Friday Mayor Sam thread, turns out the Europeans completely agree, so they can reduce emissions by 200 million tons!!

Its a lead story right now on Yahoo.com - and Arnold's European after all, so I'm sure this is one he will not veto when it lands on his desk. This is global warming reducer #1. it makes sense Mayor Sam, no need to fight it any more.
my advice: retrofit your home, why wait to be asked?

Because I haven't yet found a CFL that produces warm, comfortable light. Let's continue innovating instead of regulating; give LED technology a chance to mature.

That said, free the elephants NOW!

I know the 'tungsten' light may be a better 'light', but did you read the number of tons! that's CO2 emissions from power stations. I'm not so sure its about comfortable light anymore. the old lights were great when there weren't a zillion of them burning.
Arnold is a fan of encouraging people with the environment, not regulating strictly. Laws are usually enacted because people don't do the right thing first when its unregulated. these savings and reductions in emissions are not small. its only a couple of hours a night in summer anyway, and lots of people dim their lights at night too.
Keep incandescent where you really need it. replace the others now, how about that?
Phase them in even, like living wages.....Janice for Mayor!

Chick aiming at gangs
Controller to craft comprehensive plan

Amid questions about the effectiveness of Los Angeles' gang prevention and intervention programs, City Controller Laura Chick said Friday that she wants to develop a comprehensive approach to stemming the city's gang problem.
Building on a recent report that called for an overhaul of the city's anti-gang strategies, Chick said she will seek $500,000 to develop the plan as well as benchmarks to measure its progress.
"This report has to be a very clear and very direct path to how does the city do it right," Chick told the City Council's Ad Hoc Committee on Gang Violence and Youth Development.
"The goal is not to simply create a successful program; it's to eliminate gang violence once and for all. This is the most important thing that I think I can do in my years as a public official."
Chick's efforts are the latest in city efforts to clamp down on surging gang violence. The San Fernando Valley, for instance, reported a 30 percent jump in gang-related homicides last year.

If you want to end gang violence, you don't need a study or an audit or a program. You need police regularly patrolling every neighborhood, and jails to hold criminals for the full length of their sentence. This is not rocket science.

Touche Walter!!! I think this Chick story is a slap in the face to all the work Connie Rice did on her huge gang report. Why does Chick think she can do a better job? Laura Chick N Shit forgot to collect $156 million in parking fines and allowed DWP to abuse $97 million. Isn't her job keeping track of money not get involved in the gang issue? She's an idiot!!
