I just can't stop laughing. The thought of Alvin Parra driving his car, accidentally hitting a pothole he saw coming a mile away, then spilling coffee on his lap and yells "D'oh!".

Yes, the cartoon does look like Homer, but look at the allegation, an unsubstantiated part of a smear campaign from a previous campaign. Although it looks good,(using a comic character)it is indicative of Huizar, a day late and a dollar short. Huizar couldnt find anything current to slam Parra
so Huzar is trying to ride on the work done by a previous Councilman's campaign. Huizar is dull, slow witted, and using everyone to think for him. Huizars ethics will come to fore and the subject of more smear in the next month or so than CD14 has seen in the past. Too bad its not before the campaign.
Huizar's approach to his candidacy is pretty much comical in itself. There's a good helping of arrogance thrown in, too.
This glossy list of "facts"- accurate? Well, when has that been important. Perception is the key.
One of several examples that's been spun is the building permit case. It differs lots from the recitation contained in the 2-28-07 L.A. Weekly article about Huizar's El Sereno permit history. Too much of a variance in the Huizar version when compared to David Zahniser presentation. Z Files will have my vote for credibility.
But then why should this Councilman be any different from his colleagues anyway?

Huizar we love you, i'll be at the polls at 7am to cast my vote for you. that piece was great and what this blog needed. It was so good that it brought all the haters together to say that it was a great piece.
Why hasn't Zuma chimed in yet on the piece? he has to think it was great too.
Zuma's been riding shotgun with Alvin for weeks now as he hits one pothole after another (potholes HE was supposed to have fixed on Boyle Heights and El Sereno, as Huizar's field person there). But Parra was too busy plotting another loser campaign for himself to do the work he was assigned
As for unsubstantiated "hit" on Parra from another campaign, Alvin admitted the whole stupid plan to pimp his school board candidate wife to Eli Broad. His only defense was "D'oh, I didn't send the stupid letter (yet)" -- yeah, because you got CAUGHT> That wasn't a part of any campaign against him. It was Parra's OWN screw up that messed up Skelton campaign FOR Parra's wife.
If anyone has right to nail Alvin (and get Huizar to pay for it), it's Skelton. It messed up his campaign win/loss record for several months.
Steve Lopez of the Times deserves the credit for nailing Alvin's sorry backside. Parke just found a graphic artist to turn the "cartoon" candidate Parra into a paper cartoon.
Yeah maybe all our politicians are crooks, but with Parra, you'd get one STOOPID crook, who'd continue to embarras all of us with his screwups.
It is funny but you have to remember, Alvin was acting under the direction of Parke Skelton at this time. While working at Gloria Molina's office, Alvin faxed his memo from that office to Parke Skelton's office. This type of behind the scenes dealing goes on all the time, Alvin was just stupid enough to put it in writing and then sending it out. It was one of Pacheco's people - remember Pacheco used to be tight with Gloria and her people - that got a copy and exposed this. But this was a Alvin/Parke fuck up - Alvin was not acting alone. Why no mention of who was Alvin's wife's consultant and who the memo was sent to?
What a great way to start the money with a laugh! This should have been up weeks ago. It should be framed and put up in city hall. Classic piece, have never seen anything this hilarious yet makes a strong point of what a loser Alvin is.

Parra's wife was running for school board at the time. SCHOOL BOARD. Why would Pacheco's people give a shit what Parra was trying to do with Eli Broad on a different playing field?
And Pacheco and Gloria Molina split badly, years before any of that happened.
That's not just bullshit spin, it's too transparent to survive any scrutiny. You've not only got your panties in a bunch, you've god your timelines shoved up your crack. You can't present this kind of revisionist local history when their are people around who remember when and what.
i still think that young woman had the best mailer of any recent campaign. Maybe tied with the Vignali commercial of the 2001 Mayor's race.

If you wanna say that just to tag me with a hit...that's cool. but if you actually beleive it, you're way off track. I told you, I spoke with Alvin on the phone a few times (but at great lenght) -- and met him twice at the two candidate forums i attended. I spoke with TONS of other people just as much, or more this election season. I can't help it if Henry kept Huizar under lock and key away from Zuma Dogg. I called Huizar's campaign manager MANY times and made MANY requests to speak with Weezy, the same as I spoke with other candidates, this season. Also arranged for interviews (where I guaranteed issue oriented questions -- no attack stuff. And they didn't respond to any of my requests. However, I DID finally get a softball, diversionary moment with Huizar because I showed up with Jose Aguilar (who drove) to speak with Huizar, face to face on an issue or two -- but nothing substantive like an entire hour candidate forum or half hour phone conversation. Next time tell your candidate to be more like Tony Robbins and less like an ostrich's head at the beach.
Huizar and his campaign manager have just risen to new heights in my estimation.
Staying away from a dead air doofus like ZD (or any other circus ringmaster like that -- who carries a scare crow around?). Should be lesson #1 in Political Science studies
NOT spending desperate hours with ZD like L.A''s Homer Simpson did is pure brilliance.
If Parra had enough sense to spend that 90+ minutes dealing with real people in the district, rather than trying to splatter slime through ZD's warp communication machinery, he would show better tonight. Still lost, but maybe not by as much.
He's always taking two steps back in order to go on-half step forward.
Notice that there's been absolutely no defense of Alvin Parra's candidacy since the full-bore "Homer Simpson" message hit yesterday.
Once the "nuclear" option goes off, there's just no real comeback that works, in any way.
Oh, a few can continue Huizar- bashing (which is what most of Parra's campaign is about), but there's no saying "Homer" is an eletable option for whatever you might dislike Jose about.
Then you're stuck with just "yeah, but who else is running."
No really, there's NO one else. Tom Labonge had more viable opposition this time out.
This was so funny I almost sharted myself. That's what Alvin gets. Can't run 4 times and expect a pad on the back. C'mon man, aren't you Mexican? You know we only try things once and if it doesn't work we STOP! Third time wasn't the charm.
