All commission meetings are taped on location. Various factors only allow for one video deck to be setup for commission meetings. The 35 crew taping the commission meetings uses 90 minute Betacam tapes. Tape changes always result in a loss of content.

OTH, City Council meetings use multiple decks so as to create overlap and no loss of content. City Council meetings are taped at Channel 35 control.

the police commission claims a mysterious blank spot on the tape (just at the right time, when Matt was speaking out AGAINST LAPD. So it was NOT a problem of the tape running out according to someone at the police commission, just a mysterious blank space on the tape for some reason.

After a commission meeting the tapes are taken directly back to 35 where they are aired almost immdiately as is. The 35 Playback System, using multiple decks, butts all master tapes together precisely so as no blank space is seen on air.

VHS dubs, otoh, which are made with the master tapes and given back to the commission for commsioner review purposes are not as precisely butted together when dubbed as they are when aired thus there is a gap between tapes that look like a blank spot or a censor edit.

All public comment taped by 35 makes air. With all the varied public comment that's already aired, what would deem this particular public comment not fit for air?

You can believe whatever you'd like but does selective censoring of public comment seem more likely than the necessity of a tape change? Try timing the spot of the alledged edit. Should be near a 90 minute mark, +/- 3 minutes.
