Wednesday Open Thread

1. Times Endorsing Free Markets?

"This council has been all too willing to substitute its own rules for the markets."

Somehow, that sentence found its way into an L.A. Times editorial today about Cardenas's stunt of diverting a bond to a local underwriting firm at a higher price than others would charge, and the attempt to apply an above-minimum wage law to certain hotels near the airport.

As per the newspaper's official policy manual, however, this crazy "markets" idea of course does NOT apply to: subsidies for construction companies; price controls on apartments; subsidies for construction of hotels; donation of public lands to boost the market value of private developers' projects; bans on the conversion of apartments into condominiums; vouchers so parents can send their children to private schools instead of the disastrous LAUSD day prison camps; above-minimum wage laws for vendors who want to sell to the city; and 20-year exemptions from room taxes for political contributors who build new hotels.

2. Why Did You Leave Out The Children? And Why The Year 2000?

The RAND corporation determined that health care for illegal aliens BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18 AND 64 cost American taxpayers $1.1 billion in 2000. Apparently, if we want to know what all of them cost in the year 2005 or 2006, we have to pay extra for another report. [http://www.latimes.com/news/health/la-me-health15nov15,1,1376312.story]

3. This One, They'll Send To The NC's For Study -- LOTS of Study
The City Ethics Commission sent a "clean money" election proposal to the City Council. Rather than rushing to adopt such a law, the Council decided that hey, you really shouldn't make any kind of ethics or campaign reforms without study. Lots of study. Probably years of study. And, by all means, every single Neighborhood Council should weigh in on matters concerning ethics and campaigns. In fact, thank goodness voters knowingly extended term limits, because a radical proposal like this could take 12, maybe 16 years to figure out.

I gotta go to work. Blog away.

Walter speaking of ethics you forgot to mention that our clowncil members had a big celebartion after Prop R won thanks to AIG after the elections. Yup, the same billion dollar company that is developing the new LA Live near Staples. You would think these moron clowncil members would have class, morals or a brain but they are the biggest group of low lives in this city. Now even there own staffers are bad mouthing their lack of conscience and behavior at meetings in the community especially the valley.

I spent the past 15 minutes looking at the kabc7.com news videos. Has anyone else noticed that >90% of crimes in LA these days are committed by Latrinos? This wasn't such a shitty place 20 years ago.

Walter, what about Orlov's big DN article? A big screaming banner across the top of the front page: BOON FOR CITY LOBBYISTS.

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen (winks and nods to Zuma Dogg):

Complain not, for you yourselves have brought this about. You who voted FOR Prop R. You who voted FOR the establishment candidate. You have NO quarter to complain. None. Methinks you are all a bunch of pussyfoots, savvy?

Now then, lads. Who will HELP Mr. Dogg in his quest for a seat on the City Council? Who will help Mr. Parra? Mr. Jiminez? Mr. Morrison? Or any of the other candidates?

Welcome to Chicago, ladies and gentlemen. For that is what we have here. Chicago politics. Backroom deals. If I were Mr. Dogg, I would say "The Tamany is in the Hall!", savvy?

Alas, we have nobody but ourselves to blame.

Joseph --
I'll check it out. There's only so much I can read in the morning and still make it to school at the ungodly starting hour. And get this: you can't even smoke cigars in class! How lame is that?

Anyway, maybe we got Rick back on the reservation as it were. (Now that I think about it, that's not a terribly "PC" thing to say, is it?)

Those idiot clowncil members again wasted a lot of time on presentations on WEDNESDAY. Its bad enough they waste time on Friday but now another day of crap.

Someone tell Ed Reyes who gave a certificate to the Lincoln Heights school drum team that the Lincoln parade is next month on Dec. 10th. Idiot Reyes stated the parade had just pasted. he is brainless.

Jack Weiss' theme song should be: "Thick as a Brick." He was on John and Ken earlier and sounded like a complete, inarticulate moron.

Gotta love John & Ken who made Jack Weiss-Ass look like the idiot he is on their show. Weiss-Ass stumbled and blamed Rocky on for them giving $2.7 million to a con man. Weiss-Ass couldn't answer why not one clowncil member voted to settle and kept blaming Rocky. John kept asking after knowing the photos of this con man came out why did clowncil vote to not reconsider. Again Weiss Ass kept blaming Rocky. Go to

John & Ken were furious with Weiss-Ass and asked a simple question. What evidence did Rocky's office show the clowncil members that convinced them to settle because race was involved? Weiss Ass repeatedly stated it was atty -client privilege. John got really angry and said we are the tax payers and we are the CLIENT and deserve an answer. KFI will now submit a public record file to get all the info and will investigate how many more of these dumb ass lawsuits these morons have settled. Intersting John stated that an inside source said there were payoffs. Meaning possibly the law firm representing the black firefighter could have donated to the clowncil's campaigns. Glad John &Ken are getting to the bottom of this.
