The Teachers' Union Wants Smaller Class Size. You Got A Problem With That?

The Daily News reports that UTLA is trying to negotiate a new contract with the LAUSD school board before, you know, the board gets completely revamped. Besides salary hikes, the union wants smaller class sizes. With all this talk about, and professed concern for the children, can we all agree to this item?

Seriously, how much do you expect students to learn in a class of 40?

This, and State Senator Escutia's proposal for textbooks aimed at English learners, is what REAL educational reform is about. Can we please get some elected officials to take action on real items like this, say, right now? Or must we just settle for competing bus caravans of "concerned parents" shuttling between L.A. and Sacramento, and rigged "town hall" meetings conducted by invitation only?

Villaraigosa's town halls were not by invitation only.

They were open to the public.

Next, the Los Angeles Parent's Union paid for their trip to sacramento while the district used Title 1 dollars (taxpayer funds) to bus up their "fake parents."

Toilet Guy Villagrossa stages every single event!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is insulated by a tax payer funded team of goons who protect him from the public. He has issued orders never to allow ANYONE near him for fear that he might be caught in an unfavorable light in front of the cameras.

The taxpayers are unwittingly funding ten million dollars PER MONTH for his TRAVELLING and Personal entourage, his private planes, his outrageously expensive hotel suites, his personal publicity team, his body guards, his language coach, his tutors, and all the other "incidentals" he DEMANDS!

And the $10M per month is a CONSERVATIVE number.

And Fabian Nunez is running a close second. Nunez is gearing up for his mayoral takeover of LA after Toilet Guy tries to takeover Sacramento.

BTW, Gavin Newsome will beat the pants off Toilet Guy! I can hardly wait for the games to begin!

The one time Villaraigosa was asked a real question by a real parent, he fled! That's when he earned the "Polloraigosa" nickname. Now go buy some Listerine strips and maintain eye contact, young staffer!

Bitter, loser ex-candidates and do-nothing-but-bitch gadflies don't believe the questions are "real" unless they are: 1) used to upstage and embarrass the political leader (i.e., "gotcha"), or 2) they're used by the questioner to self-promote, in advance of their NEXT run for some political office, themselves.

Neither one is productive or useful in debate and consideration, but that's what the Wack-jobs of the city feel makes them "real".

"Los Angeles Parent's Union" !?!
Where and when did they come from?
I've been a LAUSD parent for 14 years now. Heard of PTSA and the District Parent Collaborative but the L.A. Parent's Union?

They must be the anointed that have read AV's plan and were so enthusiastic about it that they shelled out their own $ to travel to Sacramento to convince the mafia up there to disenfranchise the parents on this matter.

I'm still amazed the District and it's generously-paid consultants got so out flanked.

The District ought to ask for it's money back from Darry Sragrow and Glenn Gritzner (the two political consultants that failed). And, while the district is at it, it ought to fire it's Attorney (Reed who did an abysmal job) and censure Ms. Canter. For Christ's sake, they spent all hard earned tax payer money on opposing for this when they never had a viable plan.

Parent's Union demands are that every child receive a high quality education from the LAUSD.

And i agree with the last poster -- the gritzner show was less than stellar.

District should demand it's title one money back.

Los Angeles Parent's Union + ACORN = POLLORAIGOSA PUPPETS

By th way, who is the money source behind ACORN ???

1:24 AM, to say that Town Halls were open to the public is simply false.

San Fernando's town hall (called by the city of SF) was open to the public, with papers passed door to door. Of course, the SF Clowncil made up their minds long before that meeting or the ones that followed this week, endorsing the plan.

I was invited to go to Sucramento, as a LAUSD parent, and I refused (too much to do and very uncomfortable with the idea that it was "paid for."

I've spoken out against the merger everywhere I can, but only on my own time and expense.

There is no money behind ACORN. You can tell by looking. Those are concerned citizens if I ever saw any.
