Matt Dowd Video: Greig Smith Sleeps
Matt Dowd is another one of the new generation of public commenteers that's gotten under the Council's last nerve. He's got nowhere near the energy of Zuma Dogg (he's a heck of a guitar player though, click here) but he's also spot on with the issues.
Matt does much of the video production on Zuma Dogg's clips, but in this segment of Dowd at public comment, we have video of a very visibly sleeping 12th District Councilman.
Given how much we pay these people, is it too much to expect them to be relatively sentient when the people have the turn to speak? You might not like the speaker, but show some freaking deference to the people who pay your excessive salary.

It wasn't wine that Smith had too much of --
It was a double shot of his baby's love
ooh yah!

All these CLOWNCIL members have to do is attend 3 meetings a week and pay attention. Who the hell knows what they do the rest of the week. Now if they can't even do that then they definitely need to be voted out. I see Matt on the replay at 7:30p Channel 35 with his video. He should keep doing this type of stuff and showing the public the bullshit we are paying for.

Matt Dowd rocks! Smith looks like a corpse in that photo.
Lets hope Jim Alger does run against Smith. That guy is so manic, he'd never be asleep on the job.
Anonymous said:
Mayor Sam do you think you could start a draft Jim Alger movement? If not alger, maybe Korenstein? Sleeping Smith got to go.
Walter Moore said:
Now you can understand why the Clowncil Members need four more years: to make up for time spent asleep.
How many of you would still have a job if the boss caught you sleeping?
If someone runs against him, I think this would make a GREAT TV commercial -- or web video, at least, given the "limited" campaign budgets involved -- especially if you post the annual salary for a Clowncil Member underneath it.

Flashback moment to Laura Chick's campaign for council for those of you who remember the hit piece she used against her former boss.
Anonymous said:
Sleeping Smith! Love it.
Anonymous said:
First there was SI Hayakawa and now Smith has taken up the legacy of napping in meetings.
Anonymous said:
Sam, Walter, John we MUST get Jim Alger to run against Smith. This just proves it (as if Smith hasn't proven it countless times before)
What can we do to make this happen?
Anonymous said:
Alger doesn't stand a chance in hell of winning a city council election against Smith. Not a smidgeon of a chance.

Oh wait... he won.

Master Manipulator and Magic Massager of Messages, Mitchell Englander is here!
Greig will not only walk away from this, but his constituents will feel sorry for him the day he had his eyes closed because he was so tired from being out on his "cop" duty the night before and that damn Zuma Dogg was yelling and it doesn't look like he's sleeping to me, just resting his weary head.
Anonymous said:
Perhaps Mr $mith should do the job HE GETS PAID TO DO and play cop on his free time.

This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
Mayor Sam said:
C'mon guys, lets not post crap about Greig that's not true.
There are plenty of factual reasons to laugh at our Clowncil Members.
We don't need to make stuff up.
Anonymous said:
Who said it wasn't true Sam?
Ask Greig why he has multiple mail drops around the city for his "special" mail.
Anonymous said:
Any City Councilman who is so fucking stupid as to sleep when a guy is screaming at public comment and another is holding a video camera should be thrown out on his fat ass.
Smith has sold us out just like his tired, lame ass ex-boss Bernson did. Now they are grooming dumb ass Nicole and/or Mitch the Bitch to take over and screw us over some more.
Anonymous said:
I watched that video just now, and it looks like his eyes closed for like .5 seconds. I wouldn't call that sleeping on the job.
Anonymous said:
Greig Smith has served the people of Council District 12 for over 25 years. I'd like to see some of you blowhards try to do half the good he has.
He wasn't sleeping, he was looking down to read paperwork. You guys need to get a life!
Zuma Dogg said:
To respond the the claims we caught him looking down, reading something for .5 seconds will hopefully come to realize something from Zuma Dogg and Matt Dowd's Investigative Reporting:
We're not trying to take things out of context and try and twist things around for comedy. (We don't have to.)
So I would like people to know, that Grieg (who I do think is probably a good guy, and I do indeed feel kinda bad exposing it) -- but that was the third time, that week, that he really was indeed sleeping, and Matt didn't air the closed-eye session in it's entirety.
So, yeah...it was a real issue, and I hope it caused just enough discomfort to literally "wake 'em up", but not so much as to actually hurt his career. (But, I guess that's for the people to decide.)

ZD your wrong about one thing... SMITH IS AN ASS! A Big fat horses ASS!
He is the biggest crybaby here and acts as if his shit doesn't stink. Him sleeping is indicative of his general feeling for the public, he would rather they just went away.
SHOW ALL THE FOOTAGE ZUMA... We should see it.
Anonymous said:
I am going to have to call Zuma Dogg out for being a liar.
There is no way Councilman Smith was sleeping 3 seperate days.
I defy you to back that statement up or retract it immediately.
Councilman Smith was having a rough day, one day, that's all.
Anonymous said:
Hi, this is Matt. in all fairness he did go away to Japan, the sister city Nagoya, and maybe this was some jetlag catching up. He also does a lot of work I'm sure on committees and the like, so maybe we are all looking at this wrong. maybe the ones who sleep are the ones ACTUALLY WORKING, incl. late at night, and all the others really do nothing, thats why they so fresh and bright......
Anonymous said:
Re: the later comments from Matt Dowd and Zuma Dogg -
Hahahahahahaha - they show more fairness and responsibility than the real "news" people running and posting anonymously on this blog. Because despite all their bullshit antics, they are at least grown up enough to step forward to say, um, no this doesn't show Greig Smith doesn't work.
Like most of the other council members, he works 16 hour days, including evenings and weekends. That makes a guy tired.
Anonymous said:
So in other words Matt/Zuma... you are retracting your statement. There was no "3rd time this week" and Councilman wasn't sleeping.
Two bit losers you and ZD are. Just making shit up as you go along.
MS: Shall you be retracting your slanderous statement now as well? Now that your "source" has recantyed?
Anonymous said:
Uh oh, Manipulative Mitch is pissed. You recanters, damn you. Both of you.
Zuma Dogg said:
I have one other day on YouTube, too, you can watch all my videos to find it...and the third time, Matt wasn't in attendance with my camera, but again, I stand behind what I say...It probably was an extra hard week, but that's no excuse, and all the "anonymous" poster is doing, is continuting to perpetuate something into a way bigger deal than Matt and I intended. Yeah, it's hilrious, it exposes something that needed to be address and move on. Cause I've already been contacted by someone who told me, NOT to feel so bad about Councilmember Smith, and told me a whole lot of reasons why he is the shadiest member on council. But, I wanna help keep A.B. 1381 thrown out and I want them to add some "ethics" to their term limit-extention "ethics" plan.
Spin that, Mr. Chief of Staff...I mean anonymous poster. At least I identify myself, so I put my credibility on the line 100% of the time.
Feel free to keep trying to twist things and take them out of context, like you are unsuccesfully trying to do, and drop it before you make it bigger, and you obviously support Councilmember Smith, so maybe you should take this one time advice from the new spin doctor in town, Zuma Dogg. And if you have anything else to say, log on with a name, so people know who you are.
And if you wanna keep talking about Councilmember Smith, I'll talk about all the bad sh*t I just heard, from someone RESPONDING TO YOUR POST.
Zuma Dogg

ZD Your just a wannabe who is on minute 14 of 15. You have nothing on Councilman Smith for he has done nothing improper.
Councilman Smith is a man of integrity and you have already shown yourself to be an unstable individual who can't be trusted.
First you make wild allegations, then you and your partner retract them and try to play nice, now you retract your retraction.
You are nothing other than entertainment for all of us.

GREIG SMITH IS PROBABLY SLEEPING DURING A POLICY DISCUSSION FROM TONY CARDENAS OR BILL ROSENDAHL..
Zuma Dogg said:
i wish the anonymous poster would at least call themselves "anonymous1" (or something else anonymous) with an email address or phone number, like i post on my website, so i can respond further to all of this, because you need a little more attention on this, I guess...And please, send me an email on all the GOOD things about Smith, because I would like to hear them, and again, all you are doing by perpetuating this is bring out the Greig Smith proponents, who have me thinking about running for Smith's district, instead of Greuel's cause I just heard a bunch of good reasons why I should! So please leave a message on the number posted on my website www.zumadogg.com -- or send an email to me (just click the email link.) Now, please...can you use this blog space for the spirit in which it is intended. A chance to share information about issues that are affecting people's lives.
And yes, showing the video of Smith sleeping was relavant to post in the context of the kinds of problems at City Hall...it is one video out of hours of posted video, but it was something other people thought was important to see too, hence the repost of this blog...now move on, for the sake of the people who aren't having tons of campaign money dumped in their laps. These blogs are supposed to be for the grassroots people...go shoot some fireworks into City Hall during one of your high-priced fundraisers and blow it on expensive TV commercials. When you are a true representative of the people, they can see it, and you don't need "Dirty Money."
Pass the Clean Money Act, you coward!
Zuma Dogg for Greig Smith's District! (Sorry Van Nuys!)

Who can blame Smith for catching a few seconds of shut-eye. Noone wants to hear these lame public speakers. Especially you Dogg.

With all the money these Clowncil members are making there's no Excuse. I don't care if he just got the damn plane.
Zuma Dogg when you speak on the Mayor's bullshit LAUSD plan why don't you mention that Jose Huizar was president of the LAUSD and did nothing but now all of a sudden he's concerned. Someone needs to hold him accountable for the mess as well.
Anonymous said:
ZD your ignorance is astounding. "proponents" should be "opponents", "Greig Smiths district" is CD 12, where you don't live and "clean money" will be decided by the voters this November.
Councilman Smith has nothing to prove to you, nor will he try. Now go play in the sand and let the big boys go back to work.

Mr. Dogg has a great idea. We should all name ourselves anonymous numbers.
I want to be number 5 because it's my favorite number.
Zuma Dogg said:
Sorry for the use of the word "propontents" instead of "opponents" -- you're right, I caught that while re-reading and how sad that's what you're catching me on, publicly, to defend yourself.
I wouldn't have responded to simply that, however, this indeed is a legitimate issue regarding your comments of District 12 vs Van Nuys: I have until Oct. 6th to declare residency in time for the 30 day requirement. And yes, clean money act will be voted on, but unfortunately the sacred and shady Councilmembers had to go and "mingle" as you like to call it the term-limit extention" part with the contraversial "ethics/clean money" part, even though your own City City Attorney, Rocky Delgadillo, spoke before Council to warn, it is un-ethical to "mingle" the two items on one initiative (and even though City Council could pass the "ethics part" as an agenda item, tomorrow, without putting it on the ballot, at all, if Garcetti says, it must go on the ballot, so it can be added the the City Charter (so future shady Councilmembers can't overturn it) -- then put the two items up as separate ballot initiatives, like your own City Attorney told you to. Because you never have a problem following his legal counsel no problem when he tells you it's o.k. to kick the artists off Venice Beach, or senior citizen tenants out of their life-long residency at Lincoln Place (the new AIMCO Towers) and all the other reasons I now show up to talk about at City Hall.
And if you know of any cheap apartments in District 12, please let me know...I have till October 6th to move in.
So now, I echo back your sentiments, "Your igorance is astounding."

It actually gets worse. Not only are the Clowncil sleeping, talking on their cell phones, absent altogether, but they are going on vacation the week EAA has declared a city wide strike...yeah, I said STRIKE!!!!!
BTW, I would rather see Zuma Dogg as a councilman. His style is wild, but he speaks the truth unlike the smiling, lying clowncil.
Anonymous said:
The fact is Zuma Dogg has made progress with the CLOWNCIL MEMBERS. He has some very intelligent arguments when he puts the rap crap aside and starts speaking seriously. His argument against Antonio's takeover is one of the best I've heard. It was great for someone to finally go after those special event waivers that people have been saying for years is wasted tax dollars of ours.
Zuma Dogg when you speak on those event waivers tell those CLOWNCIL MEMBERS they spend over $10 million per year on that crap. Zuma is our voice people so I support him.
Great Idea on Anonymous. I'm #007

Dogg... YOUR AN IDIOT!

Ethics reform/term limits are a different proposition

Why should gadflies be treated with respect? Those fuckers pay as much taxes as the next man. I don't appreciate them reducing our City Council into a circus.
This is the second largest city in the nation, for fuck sakes.
And as for G. Smith, if you dumfucks in CD12 don't kick him out (I'm talking to you, Wacko and Fatboy Higby), it's your own damn fault. Quit bitching, now walk the walk!
Anonymous said:
If the city is so important because it is so big, then why do we have such dolts running it? What does Villaraigosa have going for him? For the life of me I can't figure that out. He got enough votes to win, but what else?
If Zuma Dogg can straighten these idiots out, then I'm all for it.

845 is Kevin Roderick
Anonymous said:
Kevin Roderick would know that neither Walter Moore or Mayor Sam are in CD 12.
Anonymous said:
If Zuma Dogg could get the public support in whatever district he runs in, he would pull in all of the supporters who are younger, hipper and more energetic. He could absolutely kick ass. Although CD 12 is SO Republican and conservative, he would have to get all of CSUN, all the kids in the west valley who never vote and all of the musicians, comedians, etc. who aren't registered and have NO reason to vote. Zuma Dogg could be the answer to the young, apathetic voter.
He can hire staff to help him.
I believe he would do the right thing for every single district too. From San Pedro to Woodland Hills, he would vote with the constituents. Oh what a refreshing idea. It gives me chills.
Anonymous said:
Gives you chills? The guy takes center stage in a 3 ring circus for a few weeks and all of a sudden he is the 2nd coming? GET REAL!
He has already displayed an utter lack of even basik knowledge of what is going on and just parrots what others say.
I take Hal netkin more serious than this clown.
Zuma Dogg said:
What a compliment that someone is claiming I just "parrot" what other people say...It's true...and it takes 16 hours a day, working with the top experts in their fields, to be ready for my one minute of improv and sound like a parrot.
Why is the same dummy spending all this time, simply commenting negative stuff about me? At least I'm trying to parrot real things/issues.
But you've been revealed, and thanks for letting everyone know you're obviously running scared.
So whoever this is, please contact me for a public debate (you choose the forum), otherwise go talk to the people I talk to, and read all the things I read, then maybe you'll be able to sound like a parrot, too.

Helloo? Anyone out there? Someone said there was some restlessness amongst the natives. That ALWAYS piques my curiousity.
Anyway, there is a wave coming. It's called backlash. Not backwash. And when it's all said and done in November and later on in March, there will be the usual whine about "the election was stolen out from under me." And the rest of us will roll our eyes and mutter "Oh, bugger" and continue on our merry way.
Aye, there's a wave coming. And if I were you on the Clowncil, I would make sure that Zuma Dogg isn't wearing the skull and crossbones when he speaks to you. Savvy?
If you need me, I'll be in the bar....
Zuma Dogg said:
That would be funny if they started to try and get me to show up in a suit and tie, with no hat and glasses. Like when LaBong & Zine kept trying to get City Attorney Dion O'Connell to "Make him say my REAL name."
There's not even a law preventing me from wearing my Gene Simmon's mask, but that doesn't prevent them from not allowing me to wear it...but at city hall...every time you take three steps, there's a civil violation, so you have to make your points and move on to the next thing.
The reason they could never make me remove my hat and glasses, is because as of the time I am posting this, there is no dress code yet, but they should pass one, because then maybe that would help filter out some of the lowest-income people who can't comply, and we could wrap the meetings up five minutes earlier.
And don't think for a minute, cutting time back to a minute has anything to do with wasting too much of the councilmember's time...because if you added another ten minutes even, in the course of a three or four hour meeting, it ain't a big thing. But the real reason Council was forced to cut it back time to one minute, is that it's election season, and they don't want people on TV 35 to hear the truth about the "ethics problems" with their "ethics bill."
