1. Wanted Dead or Alive: More RoomThe L.A. Morgue is designed to hold up to 350 bodies, but, reports Fox 11 News, it's now packed with 415 bodies. Says Fox: "Officials attributed today's record census to population growth, illegal immigration, familial estrangement and poverty."
Ditto at the L.A. County jails. Fox reports that a federal judge who toured the jail this past week said the crowding is "not consistent with basic human values." Cells designed for three inmates are holding six, and "there is not enough room for all six inmates to stand up or take a pace or two."
Perhaps the "solution" will involve GPS sensors. Forty rapists and other "high-risk sex offenders" on parole in Palmdale will be sporting an ankle bracelet that transmits their GPS coordinates to their parole agents. ("Tom Tom, where's the nearest elementary school?")
2. Laws. We Need More Laws.
California's Senate passed a bill this week that would require all major horse racetracks in the state to install a synthetic racing surface by the end of 2007. (Kind of makes you wonder whether and how much the makers of polymer synthetics contributed to our elected officials, doesn't it?)
Meanwhile, in a federal court in San Jose, a judge is nearing a decision on whether to invalidate or uphold a California law banning the sale to minors of videogames depicting violence. If it's upheld, should the ban be extended to books? Comic books? CD's with violent lyrics? ("I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.")
3. Bread and Circuses.
The New York Times today has an article on how the NFL may put a team in the Coliseum. If that happens, what should the team's name be?

....many political observers have found it so odd that His Honor (AV)stumbles and squirms when having to deal with the issue of illegal immigration...whether he would even be in Los Angeles for the "Day Without Immigrants" march, an event that he endorsed…when it turned out he would be here, it was unclear until the very last moment whether he'd make an appearance at the march..let's not forget his clearly contrived indignation at the national anthem being sung in Spanish. "I was offended," he solemnly declared to CNN's Wolf Blitzer — this from a politician who was happy to deliver the Democrats' response to this year's State of the Union address in Spanish….Last January, the mayor was stunned by the implications of a question he fielded while appearing on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal." A caller from Arkansas declared: "It's only after the influx of illegals that you were elected, sir. How is that possible?" "Are you kidding?" Villaraigosa blurted. Then, after a long pause, he added, "I was born in the United States."..Villaraigosa was waving that enormous American flag on May 1 — he was warding off the inevitable accusations that he was favoring his ethnic identity over his national identity

Turns out the Sheriff has already solved the jail crowding problem. The L.A. Times reports that everyone sentenced to 90 days or less is LET GO IMMEDIATELY, and "many others leave after serving no more than 10% of their time."
So go ahead, commit that crime. Odds are, you won't get caught, and even if you do, you'll serve at most 10 cents on the dollar!

Well, there's something much easier than filing a lawsuit: voting. Sheriff Baca is coming up for election, and the County Supervisors likewise have to run for office.
Baca and Supervisors should be VOTED OUT. They spend money on everything but their priorities the safety of our city. Tell Baca to sell his private jet and put that to more beds in County Jail.
And don't forget my favorite use of county tax dollars, which Doug McIntyre describes as follows:
"At a time when LA can’t hire cops, fund schools, pave its roads, keep its hospitals open, LA County Supervisor Gloria Molina took 7 million dollars of YOUR money and pledged it to construct a 70 million dollar Mexican Cultural Center in downtown Los Angeles. What?! Are we out of our minds? Why don’t we just put salt around the city and change our name to Margaritaville?"

The Knickerbocker DJ was arrested because he was black. NYPD are racists, led by their honkie mayor, Bloomberg. Bloomberg is a republican, and they are in turn led by George W. Bush, whom, you might have heard, doesn't care about black people.
Does Walter Moore have any other issues besides illegal immigrants and bashing Boks?
