Welcome to Saturday

You've just crossed over into another dimension. (Cue the "Twilight Zone" theme.) A dimension of sight. A dimension of mind. A dimension where Mayor Sam asked yours truly to lend him a hand. For your consideration and comment, three news items:

1. The L.A. City Council voted unanimously to endorse a U.S. Senate bill that would let illegal aliens stay. Cardinal Roger Mahoney spoke in favor of the resolution. Councilman Reyes said, "If we start breaking up the population into subgroups, the tragedy would be that we would start breaking up families," and "We should be allowing families to stay together."

2. Alameda County Superior Court Judge Robert Freedman issued an injunction preventing schools from denying diplomas to high school seniors who fail the exit exams in math and English. To pass those exams, a student must function at the ninth-grade level. The ruling affects 11% of the state's 47,000 seniors. (For those of you in the 11%, that works out to 5170 students.) [CORRECTION: SUBSEQUENT STORIES SAY 47,000 SENIORS FAILED THE EXAM, AND CONSTITUTE 10% OF ALL SENIORS.]

3. In response to President Bush's plan to deploy National Guard troops along the "border" with Mexico, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said the plan is "maybe not the right way to go." The governor said many of the Guard troops are returning from long duty in Iraq, and "I think that we should let them go ... back to work again."

What do you make of this, Brain Trust?

Top reasons to invade Mexico:
1. No more border problems
2. Can you say, "OIL!"
3. No more drug problems
4. Teach everyone English

Not enforcing our laws...let me see...

Let's not go after arrest and punish drug dealers, they're only trying to make money to feed their families.

Burglars, well they are only trying to get what they need, they didn't hurt anyone...no one was home.

Robbers, well, they just had the gun in case you threatened to call the police... and it went off and killed the victim when he reached for the phone or tried to run or better yet, he could pick the perp out in a line up.

Persons driving under the influence of alcohol, they didn't have the money for a cab and live to far to walk. And those that hit another car and kill someone, well don't prosecute them because they didn't know what they were doing...

No more arresting and punishing persons who write bad checks, they still had checks and didn't know they didn't have the money in their account...

I could go on, but you get the drill, why have rules and laws? Especially if we are going to enforce them on citizens. It's interesting no one gets why its called ill-legal immigration.

What the three things tell me is that politicians are finally getting around to dealing with the problem created by considering a whole class of society "illegal."

The Governator...didn't you see their tango? if he supports anyone else, it ruins his timeline to be Governor in 4 years.

Yes we are a country of immigrants, I don't know about you, but family came legally. Some of us follow the law. As a matter of fact, I have family who want to immigrate now and are waiting for their turn...I guess you don't mind when your standing in line and someone cuts in front of you...

When you are rewarded for doing wrong (ill-legal activity) it makes you think you can just do whatever you want avoiding consequences. I hope you raise your children to know better. Or they will be the next generation of prisoners locked up in our jails...

Are you kidding: "who is Antonio supporting for Governor?" He sure as heck doesn't want a Democrat to win, not when he is spending every waking minute trying to get HIMSELF in position to run in four year....

If pedophile-protector Mahony supports something, then it must be bad. Has he turned over the files yet??

Re: Bush's (i.e., Karl Rove's) possible plan to send Nat'l Guard troops to the border, I fear this is just a ploy to pick off enough House Republicans to ram amnesty through. Of course, we know what would happen to enforcement once his corporate pals got their continued supply of cheap labor. We're not fooled!!

Throw out the exit exam. Nice.

The liberals and parents whose egos had been insulted are too stupid to realize they have obliterated any notion that their children will be held accountable and have created a permanent underclass who will not be able to read and write by 11th grade standards once they are free to go into the world.

Fine by me. Let your illerate, ignorant, idiotic, incompetent, inactive, diabetes-having, rap-listening, border-hopping, unworldly, unmathematical moron of a son hop, skip and jump into that wonderful job at Burger King.

I guess, "would you like fries with that?" is easier than studying English.

I thought a High School Diploma meant you passed 12th grade math and 12th grade english, and every thing below that. Now comes along a seven year delay on an exit exam. Seven years ago these "seniors" class of 2006 were in fifth grade. They're not ready yet to get a minimum of 55% on 9th grade english and 8th grade math? I can hear the bleeding hearts crying out " what about the english as a second language learner who entered the system after the fifth grade?" We'll their parents should have known they created the situation when they arrived either via legal pathways or the illegal ones and prepared them to work harder. How much more are we going to bring education down to the lowest common denominator? We might as well save the money spent on education and just give them diplomas after graduating elementary school, since that is still a level our kids seem to be able to meet.

Latinos and the illegals always play the victim card and all those idiot liberals fall for it every time. This city is going to be stuck with these losers. Crime will go way up cause they can't fill out a job application, can't calculate simple math and haven't learned English. They won't have anything constructive to do during summer and will rob your houses, deal drugs (cause they make more money) harrass and threaten your neigbhorhodd but hey, they have excuses, they're poor

To 6:03pm

It is the liberals who play the victim card and they find willing "victims"- whether its Latinos or illegals or other groups. These victims are brainwashed into supporting these liberals who "care" for the victims with our tax dollars (e.g. welfare, Section 8 housing, food stamps, etc.)!

Most people who come to the U.S. want to learn English and want their children to get a better life. It is the liberals that want to trap people in victim status as 21st Century form of slavery- creating a cycle of dependency upon our tax dollars so liberals can continue getting themselves elected to office through the power of their victims network.
