Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Wednesday

Wednesday morning, Councilmen Herb Wesson and Ed Reyes will hold a news conference to
announce joint citywide hearings on the loss of rental and rent-controlled units to condo conversions, demolitions and new units for sale. Apparently this is a bad thing.

West LA Online is reporting that Councilman Bill Rosendahl will be holding a rally Wednesday morning to protest plans by the Federal government to sell land owned by the Army near the West LA Veteran's Medical Center, for development purposes. Rosendahl, himself a Vietnam era veteran, states that the land is historically chartered for use to benefit veterans.

The anti-Scientologists in the Leona Valley plan to picket Sheriff Baca's office on May 6th. They are opposing the Sheriff's support for a Scientology run drug rehab facility in their area.

Our old friend, author and blogger Joseph Mailander, appears to be back - at least for now - from his self imposed exile from the blog Martini Republic. Mailander returns with the latest edition of his once near daily column, The Overnighter. And in true Mailander fashion, he really doesn't give a shit what you think.

Tidbits from MS2: Journalism teaching job open at Mount San Antonio College and highlights of actions taken by the LA County Supervisors at their Tuesday meeting.

Wendy, like any other politician or organization only endorses when it's an easy call. A sure winner. You won't find her endorsing with her heart.

I agree with the article today about the Sierra Club endorsing both Westly and Angelides. Why bother? They will only endorse so as not to make someone mad, not based on their record. The Sierra Club should be endorsing based ONLY on an environmental stand and not for political reasons.

Endorsements are worthless these days. Their only value is if the person/group endorsing is also giving money or doing a mailer on behalf of the candidate.

Nobody is going to run to the polls asking, "I wonder who Wendy likes in this race?"

I'm going back to the Wesson thing about talking about the loss of rentals to condo conversions. Was the "I guess this is a bad thing" was sarcasm? Because as someone who can't possibly afford - nor would I consider paying for - a $500,000 condo, yeah, losss of rentals is a problem. When I looked for a place this past weekend it was like being back in New York. Garbage dump apts for $1150. As home sales slump, rent prices go up. If people can't afford to buy a home OR rent an apt, where will we proud middle-class'ers live?

Great pic!

That's the old, real Mayor Sam waving to the darkies in South Central, or as it was called back then, Watts.

That was back when you could get thousands of darkies to line a block.

Now thanks to the wetbacks, we have no more black people.

Too bad they didn't see it coming.

Mayor Sam,

You should remove those very colorful but bold faced lies that Dan Guss put up there. He's an ass.

Shocking the Minute Men had their press conference in Leimert Park today with Ted Hayes. They had blacks supporting them as they started their journey to Washington.

10:42 - yes it is a bad thing when government meddles with the economy. The price of housing in LA is due to market forces. if you can't afford to buy a house here, move to Palmdale. I can't afford to buy a Maserati. Will Ed Reyes and Herb Wesson do something for me there?
