This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

Fly on the wall at City Hall here: I loved the march. Rush hour traffic on the 405 was the best ever. Also, I didn't have to wait in line at stores. Perhaps they can do this once a week, on my shopping days.
Anonymous said:
Sure, and then the please will start coming in from the business community to end the boycott.

I hope these illegal immigrants boycott every day! Traffic was not congested, stores were open and uncrowded, hospital emergency rooms were uncrowded, schools were uncrowded and it was an overall eye opening experience.
These illegal bastards are draining our economy!!!
We wouldn't need to build more schools (71,000 illegal immigrant students), drain our reserves to increase upkeep on our infrastructure (roads, highways), close hospitals and trauma centers due to lack of funding, and absorb the cost of translating every fricking document into a foreign language (spanish). This is what is costing us millions to pay for these freeloaders. Are the democrats really this desparate to get these guys legalized so they can turn them into votes???? Is Villaraigosa this desparate???

I enjoyed the fact that I could drive normal speeds on the freeway today. When I ordered my coffee at Mc Donalds this morning, someone actually understood English and was able to respond back in proper English. I wasn't harrassed by job seekers at Home Depot today nor did I have anyone going through my trash bins looking for recyclables.
The only thing that really pissed me off was the fact that some idiot made a Spanish version of the National Anthem.
Let these illegals boycott everyday! Life is actually better without them!
By the way, why don't we just change the Constitution - believe it is the 14th ammendment. Take away the automatic American citizenship of a child born to non -citizens and that will stop a lot of these illegals from coming to OUR country!
I'm tired of my taxes going to pay for their free education, their health insurance, their food stamps and section 8 housing. Why don't they try changing things in their own countries? I'm tired of our politicans standing up for the rights of illegals and NOT standing up for actual American citizen rights!
If illegals are so unhappy with how their goverment is handling things in their countries, then speak up and change it. Don't come here trying to get a free ride from the backs of true citizens and those immigrants who came to this country the correct way - by applying for worker visas, learning english, obeying our laws, paying taxes, and applying and passing their citizen exam.
It's time to take our country back! CHANGE the Constitution! Let's put Americans first!

What if you gave a protest and no one cared?
What a great day it was!
No business I dealt with was shut or even inhibited in any way.
My commute was 20 minutes shorter each day, without all the illegals clogging the freeways.
We exposed the true leanings of Villaraigosa, Alarcon and Nunez, to name a few.
The silent majority again showed that it had the class, judgment and dignity to uphold all the laws and put up with these illegals waving Mexican flags.
So, for those silent majority folks, I publish our manifesto:
Any business that was closed on May 1, 2006, we will not shop at anymore. Those businesses clearly hire too many illegals.
Any media outlet that called this a Protest of/for Immigrants cannot be trusted. This was a protest of/for Illegal Immigrants.
Any politician that supported this protest will not get our votes. Jeff Dahmer has a better chance.
Why is it that when I visit Paris or El Salvador, I am considered an American pig if I don't try to respect the culture and speak the language?
How then to do these idiots think that they can cast us as American pigs for speaking up for our language and our culture here?
What's that sound I hear? Sounds like a backlash.

Dear Gabachos, (white patriots),
"Make People Power Visible" is a foundamental concept among organizers.
Each and every immigrant that participated will never forget the experience. Consequently, the fight has just begun.
No need for you to circle the wagons, if you have love in your hearts.
The issue is now an international issue. Mexico, Central America, South America are in solidarity.
Oops. And you have problems with the Arabs too.

I could not believe it - my commute was cut in half. The illegals wanted me to think about what life in Los Angeles would be like without them - I did not dare to dream it would be so vastly improved. I was even able to use the freeway again! The 405 moved - it turns out my vehicle can go over 10 miles an hour - today proved it can handle 70 - who knew!
This marching has got to be continue. Perhaps the Mayor can make a program out of it somehow.

Today was fabulous. For the first time in memory I didn't wake up to one damn leaf blower, power mower, weed whacker nor the accompanying mariachi music. I spent about $500 at the mall and had the best service EVER. Dropped another $75 at the grocery store then sailed home proud of my expenditures on behalf of America. My Day Without a Mexican Illegal Alien was great!

I am a stakeholder in CD 14 more specifically the area covered by the LA-32 Neighborhood Council. Rick Acosta is out of control and has done nothing for the community. His biggest accomplishment so far is buying an engraved nametag for himself that says “president”.
At the Neighborhood Council Meeting last month he brought in a second agenda he made up himself. He tried to ignore the Agenda developed by the Executive Committee. The entire LA-32 Board saw right through that and voted to adhere to the Agenda that was developed by the Executive Board (&posted per the Brown Act)
Mr. Acosta is out of control. After the entire NC voted to have Linda McGuire (Board member) to service as a liaison to the City Controller’s committee he removed her and put in someone else. This week he removed another Board member from the Development committee for no reason. Hello Mr. Acosta this is not a dictatorship this is a process for the community to have input.
I am an active member in the community who voted for you to become president. What a disappointment. I am looking forward to the day I can vote on your recall so the Neighborhood Council can return to the business at hand, HELPING THE COMMUNITY.

Here's some actual data on how much lighter traffic was, from the Clatrans sensors.
Travel time index roughly corresponds to congestion, and you can see the big drop.
Here was the average speed on LA and Ventura County freeways on Monday. Note how traffic is faster than President's Day. This was New Year's Day-level traffic.
I am going through the data and will post more links later in the day.

LA32 Don't start your crap again on this blog. We're tired of reading your immature postings attacking eachother. You're embarrassing your community. Take it up at your meetings.
Out of 12 mil illegals in US ONLY 1 MIL protested. Illegals just pissed off the guys on the hill and many Americans. By trying to hold this country "hostage" it didn't work and now you are going to pay. ICE (INS) will continue to raid businesses, Nat'l Guard now at border, medicaid getting overhauled come June so no more services. Tell me illegal supporters, if it only takes 1 year to become a citizen why haven't these illegals applied if they love this country so much?
Anonymous said:
What's LA32 anon?

Its a neighborhood council that can't get it together and use this blog to blast eachother. Very juvenile.
Why did only one news station show the violence of these illegals last night? Not one newspaper reported the illegals throwing rocks and bottles and injurng a police officer on 6th & Alvardo. There were 100 of them fighting with cops in the middle of the intersection. It was after the rally.

Stop your whinning. We Mexicans are here to stay. We will continue taking your jobs and raping your women until the last one of you white devils "flies" out of the Southwest (Aztlan). We will wire every dollar we earn back to our villages in Mexico. Eventually, we will acomplish turning CA into a third-world state.

ASK the mayor question Channel 9 Why was the traffic flow so great on Monday when the illegals were demonstrating? I don't think he has the guts to state the obvious truth, because all the illegals weren't in their cars with no driver's license or insurance clogging up the streets.

As mexican-american with parents that came to this country "legaly" I am truly ashamed at all the "chuzma" that was seen on monday. Not one of those poor bastards know what it is to sacrifice family for this country. All the mexican-american soldiers that los their lives during WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the Gulf war and now Iraq took a back seat to all these leaches that demand respect before they earn it. One thing is true, I am not one of those people that marched on monday.
Marshall Astor said:
The funny thing that seems to not be getting across is that the the marches are not composed of illegal immigrants. These are not protests by a single group. The marches and protests are composed of individuals in support of good legislation to settle this issue. I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of marchers are legal immigrants.
Almost all of the people I know who were marching yesterday were born here, many of them white.
Anonymous said:
There were some fringe groups, but mostly this was an amnesty march for ILLEGAL aliens, pure and simple. Maybe we should treat them like Mexico treats illegals in their country -- although we're too humane for that.

NOt one person will answer this question for me. If they love ths country so much and have been here for more than 5 years why haven't they applied to become citizens?
Didn't like the fact that the Nation of Islam were allowed on stage with the mayor. These radicals have threatened time and again they would burn down the city like in the past if they don't get their way. They hate cops and do nothing for the violence in the black communities.

Im an anglo. Watched the march on Wilshire near Koreatown for about an hour from 5-6pm. It was completely peaceful. It seemed mostly poor and middle class latinos-didnt see too many rich looking people. Lots of families, lots of kids. Lots of people just wanting some respect. I thought it was great!
I think the people who marched, and our elcted leaders have got to pressure and help the Mexican govt get its act together. It seems like the mexican govt should be a target of these demonstations.
The only 'solution' to the immigration problem is to have the Mexican govt get their act together and create a country where the citizens dont want to leave. Why is everyone so accepting of mexicos situation?

Anon they are "Illegal" people. So anon why if they've been here for so many years haven't they applied for citizenship? Do they think they're above it? They won't speak English, they drive with insurance or licenses, they committ violent acts just go to County jail and see how many illegals have been arrested for felonies. A poll taken yesterday state that 70% of Americans thought the illegals who protested should have been arrested and deported.

The reality is most people either A) stayed at home and didn't drive for fear of major, as predicted in the media, traffic nightmares or B)Marched and thus didn't drive. Thus, traffic was as it was because YOUR racist ass probably didn't drive. Oh and by the way....the poor illegals you talk about keep our public transportation system in business....oh and they took the metro/bus to the marches as they do to work everyday....oh and they..um, usually carpool...they are poor right, so the traffic problem isn't caused by them, jobs are not taken by them, they are not terrorists, and they didn't kill JFK, Hoffa and aren't really aliens. Thought you might want to know....
