BREAKING STORY: Major Labor Leader to Endorse Alger
Rumblings of labor support for Jim Alger's 38th Assembly District race have been around for a few weeks, but the rumors picked up steam this weekend when the buzz in Democratic circles was Alger would release a "Major Labor Endorsement" in the upcoming days. Those in the know say that the endorsement Alger plans to release is none other than than that of Julie Butcher, leader of SEIU Local 347.
Campaign documents released today show that Butcher is among a list of contributers who donated to the campaign. Funds raised now by the Alger camp reports at $35,000. This is a significant development in that Algers' primary is contested by Lyn Shaw Hilfenhaus, wife of Labor leader Jim Hilfenhaus.
Conventional wisdom would lead us to think all labor would go to Shaw-Hilfenhause. However, when Mayor Sam placed a call to Michael O'Connell, Chief of Staff to the Alger Campaign, O'Connell refused to deny the endorsement. "Jim will release his endorsements at a time and place that he feels are prudent." said O'Connell.

Isn't this the "major labor leader" that all hands on the Mayor Scam's blog beat the holy-hell out of at the end of Hahn's term, like she was Pariah #1. Now she's endorsing your "boy" Alger?
And that's "good". . .?
Howizzdat?
Geez, I thought at least you dead mayors had an ounce of intellectual honesty about you.
Anonymous said:
Bad guess, remember this is a "conservative" blog that also endorsed Mr. AV-CLU for mayor.
Sorry, not even an ounce shared among 'em.

If it turns out to be true this would be H-U-G-E for Alger. Just last week the Shaw/Hilfenhouse people were talking about Lyn was going to take all of labor.
This would definately be a shot right at the core of Lyns base. Ballsy move for Alger, again.

With Algers recent Wal-Mart win you would think he would get some union support.
Looks like Shaws' "lock" on the union vote has shown its first crack.

4:15 anon, Sammy never said HE liked it, just said it was good for Alger.
If this is true (and I say if because according to Sams story the news was so breaking that the campaign hasn't confirmed it yet) it would really give Alger more momentum than he already has.
The story I heard was that Butcher was not going to endorse Alger but then again, time will tell.

"Looks like Shaws' "lock" on the union vote has shown its first crack." ??????
This pans out it is more like a huge gaping hole. Alger has been going after union support even when he knew he wouldn't get it. Say whatever you want about him... that boy has heart.
Anonymous said:
He certainly has the ability to "bring it".
Word is the dweebs over in a certain Council office are not the least bit happy about this development.
Anonymous said:
It's only one endorsement. Probably the only one Jim gets if he gets it. What was Jim Alger's position on the City's breakup?
Anonymous said:
Dollars to donuts 6-8 of those last "anon" posts are Alger himself, touting the (un)announced endorse.
Anonymous said:
Hell yeah, boys, Butcher's support sure yanked Jim Hahn's shorts out of the fire last year.
(sniff, sniff, what's that I smell burning?)
Anonymous said:
Yes Mr. Dollars to Donuts, Jim Alger who is out campaigning at a Dem. club tonight is blogging here at the same time.
Any idea how tired the same old BS gets from you?
Some of you guys just can't handle the fact that Alger has supporters?
First "no one will support him", then "he has only a few supporters" then "he'll get no union support" now it is "the only endorsement he'll get".
You are pathetic.

It makes sense Butcher and Hilfenhaus. Everybody in the labor movement knows that Butchers been banging Hilfenhaus for years now. Need to get them eyes checked Jim.
Anonymous said:
Let's see, Butcher backed Beth Garfield...she lost. Butcher backed Pacheco...he lost. Butcher backed Jim Hahn...he lost. Butcher even backed Villaraigosa in his first Mayoral race...he lost. No offense Alger, don't quit your day job.

When was that picture of Julie taken? She hasn't been that ugly in 10 years. She's alot uglier than that now.
p.s. She needs to shave her ass and walk backwards for the sake of all the citizenry.

Was that a picture of Julie Butcher or the surface of Mercury? I would sooner land Mercury.

We suspected when Butcher got us 0 COLA that she'd gotten paid off by Jim Hahn and pocketed the money. After seeing her picture we know she's not using it for cosmetic surgery. By the way, that's a body even Chip Foos couldn't fix.

I would rather inhale a steady stream of diesel particulates than have to look at Butchers face for any length of time.

Wow, that's a good picture of Butcher. Good for her.

If Julie has caused this much hatred, she must be doing something right.
Anonymous said:
Love her or hate her, this only helps Alger with the Democratic base. He continues to position himself for a good sized win in June... the hard run begins then.
Anonymous said:
I think this is bigger than big for Alger because of the Hilfenhaus connection. It tells labor that they CAN go with Alger.
Until Butcher he was going to have a hard time with labor because Alger isn't a "party line" Democrat leftist like Shaw. he has a whole lot of crossover support and that drives the traditional democrat elites nuts.
Chalk yet another big win up to Alger.

ask jim about the council...and how much they helped with walmart...mabye he will give other people creidt
Anonymous said:
Jim says all the time the Neighborhood Council did a lot of work on the Wal mart.
It was Grieg Smith who ignored the hard work of the Council NOT Jim Alger.
Anonymous said:
Jims letter to the community said in part:
"On behalf of the Northridge West Neighborhood Council I would like to thank all of you that in the effort to stop the proposed Wal-Mart contributed your time, energy and money. In the end, hundreds of you attended the various meetings we held, busses delivered opponents to city planning meetings, and over 1,000 signatures were gathered opposing the project. It was people such as yourself who achieved this victory when no one said it could be done.
This victory is truly a testament to what can be accomplished when a community supports its Neighborhood Council and works together for a common goal."
SO ENOUGH ABOUT THE CREDIT!!! It was SMITH who sat on his ass and did nothing only to try and take the credit later.
Mayor Sam said:
Some of you people are just plain idiots.
Just because I don't care for Julie Butcher's politics myself, that doesn't mean I can't admire Alger for snaking an endorsement important to him.
To get the nomination, Jim has to get some support from the left. Especially if a union nut job is running against him.
If a major Unionista like Butcher endorse him, it causes a problem for his nut job opponent.
All in all, a good move for Jim.

Here is what I want to know about...
I heard from a reliable source that a certain staff member in Greig Smiths office was bragging last week that he "stopped" Julie Butcher from endorsing Jim.
What the HELL is that all about?

Mitch the bitch has no juice.

Little shrimp sure does think his shit doesn't stink though. Was it him?
Anonymous said:
You would think Smith & Co. would back off Alger. Everytime they try to mess with him it backfires big time.
Anonymous said:
I'm remembering she was a Smith supporter. How does that fit into the Alger/Smith picture?
Anonymous said:
Did Julie get a consensus vote of her union membership before she decided to make the endorsement? Usually a union endorsement means funds will be wpent on a candidacy that most members could care less about.
Anonymous said:
She still does support Smith, at last check. But she is definately her own woman that is for sure.
Also, if you read Algers release, it isn't a "Union endorsement" it is her personal endorsement. Looks like SEIU is sitting this one out.
Anonymous said:
An what exactly is Julie's "personal endorsement" worth? Jack shit. Although she is a handsome woman...NOT. She is her own woman and I wish she would keep a tighter leash on that woman. Something that looks like this should not be allowed in public.
Anonymous said:
Huh??
You lost me.
Anonymous said:
You are easily lost Julie. Try to keep up.
Anonymous said:
I'm not Julie and I have no idea what the 2:18 poster is trying to say.

Julie Butcher has not endorsed Jim Alger. She gave him a contribution based on his actions fighting the DWP rate increase but with explict instructions that it was not an endorsement. Jim Alger has a $1,000. less than Lyn Shaw C.O.H. He repaid loans to his staff and wife that had been used to try and fake his totals. He has seven reportable donations and if he raised anything at his fundraiser he has violated campaign reporting laws by not reporting the money recieved but reporting the costs of the event.Oh and Kim Thompson told him expressly the money she repaid him for bailing out her car was not to be used or listed as a donation to his campaign so six donors.
Shaw raised $4,734., Alger $2,365.
C.O.H.=
Shaw @ $4,726 Alger @ $3,673. guess he hasn't repaid all of the loans
Anonymous said:
Am I reading that wrong, or has Shaw spent eight dollars so far on her campaign? Fiscal conservative, I guess.
Anonymous said:
Well, it's not quite eight dollars, I guess. $7.92. Maybe it was on stamps, dunno.
Actually, anon 1:33, not to be judgemental, but when $4200 of the $4734 you've raised was donated by people who live in the candidate's house, I have to say that the cash-on-hand comparison isn't necessarily a sparkling one for Shaw. At least Alger got someoneto cut him a check for $1K.
If that's all you've got, I'd run the campaign on looks and charm instead of overwhelming financial advantage.
Anonymous said:
Hey moron... Kim Thompson donated the money via her CREDIT CARD on Algers website.
You morons need to get your facts straight
