Open Thread for Wednesday

On February 1, 1979, the Ayatollah Khomeini returns to Iran in triumph after 15 years of exile. The shah and his family had fled the country two weeks before, and jubilant Iranian revolutionaries were eager to establish a fundamentalist Islamic government under Khomeini's leadership.

Born around the turn of the century, Ruhollah Khomeini was the son of an Islamic religious scholar and in his youth memorized the Qur'an. He was a Shiite--the branch of Islam practiced by a majority of Iranians--and soon devoted himself to the formal study of Shia Islam in the city of Qom. A devout cleric, he rose steadily in the informal Shiite hierarchy and attracted many disciples.

Thank you Antonio for picking a radical police commission board that is against LAPD officers who do their job. "these are't people who act emotionall." These are people that make decisions based on facts....VILLARAIGOSA

WHAT AN IDIOT!!!! Oh and Chief Bratton doesn't make decisions based on facts? No wonder LAPD hates Antonio. I hope LAPD officers simply wave and stay in their cars in South LA and let the blacks keep killing each other and officers won't have to risk their life or careers just to get slammed by these political morons police commissioners

On a 4-1 vote the Police Commission declared that the shooting death of 13-year-old Devin Brown by officer Steven Garcia was out of policy—but THE OFFICER'S TACTICS WERE WITHIN POLICY, KFWB reports

I've seen Monica Garcia around town trying to get votes. It's quite a site to see her in a dress after having only seen her for years in pants and orthopedic shoes.

Do we really have to go there. We should only concern ourselves with their policy and not with appearance.

Yeah, yeah 8:57... in what perfect world.

Pretty boy, absentee CM Villaraigosa got to be mayor because of his "policies" NOT his looks.

Sorry, I meant to say "Policy" (singular), because other than one piece of city business that took two years to approve, the ONLY thing he's on record in council agendas for from 2003-05 is waiving city fees for ribbon cuttings and block parties (WHERE he CAMPAIGNED for mayor, at a cost to taxpayers).

How the fuck do you even get a gig like that, where people pay you six figures to spend MOST of your time working on NATIONAL campaigns and trying to LEAVE for a higher paying job... (unless, of course, you're "pretty!")

What's up with the family photo op AV passed to all media? Maybe Corina has been hidden too long and all the rumors were beginning to surface about AV lack of decorum. We all know its b.s. and AV constantly insults our intelligence.

You are trying to brag about endorsements, but not one of those on your list have anything to do with LAUSD. Maybe you can get some endorsements from some police officers next! Good job!

That guy is just trying to find the first available spot for higher office.

Again read how stupid these new police commissioners are. Word around LAPD today is officers are furious and they will not be as proactive and let's see if crime goes up where these blacks bitched, threatened and complained.
