EAA HANDS OUT EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENTS TO CITY UNIONS

This message is also to good not to post in it's entirety...

EAA HANDS OUT EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENTS TO CITY UNIONS

EAA obtained a Controller's report dated September 14, 2005, from one of our sources in the City Administrative Office. The Controller'’s report not only belies the claim that the City is facing a $240 million deficit, but it underlines the fact that the City has been socking away surpluses some of them of record proportion, during the last five years. This report further anticipates a surplus of $131 million to go into the reserve at the end of FY 2005/2006. This report also explains that City revenues are estimated to exceed the CAO'’s predictions by over 9%. EAA has sent copies of this report to its brother and sister City Unions as an "“early Christmas present"”.

Since the only argument the Mayor has against doing the right thing and giving EAA members equal pay for equal work has been this "structural deficit of $240 million"”, this report should clear the way for the EERC and Council to do the right thing for EAA represented City employees.

The mayor has no excuse now. If he is truly a friend of working people and loyal city employees, he should provide equal pay for equal work. C'mon AV, do the right thing.

When is SEIU, AFSCME and the other city unions going to unite with EAA to obtain equal pay for equal work? Isn't this a universal proposal? EAA is the iron tip of the spear.

"boohoo. Oh no, it's not fair. It's not fair. DWP this. IBEW that. Not fair boohoo." Yeah? Boo-freaking-hoo. Cry me a river. News flash, life is NOT fair.

The mayor has offered 6.5% over the next 3 years. Take it, sit down and shut up. I hated the disparity and knew that it is always going to be a fact of life. SO, do something about it for yourself instead of complaining like little b*tches and waiting around for someone to do it for you.

Take charge of your own lives, be proactive. I researched and interviewed for DWP and got in and I was not the only one who did so. I was sick and tired of waiting around for "a snowball chance in hell" fight for parity.

Whatever happened to that labor mantra Tony and Martin Ludlow used to drop at every labor function, "An injury to one is an injury to all."

I guess now that labor mantra is and injury to Tony the Liar is an injury to all and screw the rest.

Hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy - what did you expect from a pathological liar and his minions.

Keep up the good fight Robert Aquino - this is a labor organizer doing everything he can for his membership - Tony adn martin can learn a thing or two from him.

Easy for you to use such simplistic logic. I guess "proactive" to you means joining a union that lavishes AV with more campaign funds than others & then say screw you to everyone else.

I hear what 9:48 is saying. I agree with him. I already started looking for job opportunities with DWP because EAA will never be able to get the parity that we all want. 9:48 has a point. There comes a point where enough is enough and it is time to take your life matters into your own hands. I'm not going to rot away here and wait for EAA to "try and match" IBEW's contract. I am on the move to leave EAA and find a better opportunity for myself

You're accusing him/her of joining a union that supported AV? what does that have to do with being sick and tired of waiting for the EAA to act? If you want that wage increase, get off your butt too and start applying for DWP positions!

Hey 10:00, this is 9:48. If you think that being proactive and just the plain opposite of the typical lazy American means joining IBEW and saying screw you to everyone else, then that is what I am doing.

SCREW you then. Don't try to play mr/mrs. holy right now. You know damn well that if you were in my shoes and you got offered that DWP job, you would leave the city as well. Don't deny it. The only difference between you and I is that I decided to take charge of my life and not bitch and moan like other city employees about unfairness. People/Americans are too dumb to realize that life is not fair and want things to be handed to them or take the easy way out. Plain and simple, if it is not fair, you make it fair for yourself. So don't hate on me because I made the move when the job transfer was offered to me. You would take it as well.

Yeah, way to show that union solidarity! I bet your brothers and sisters in the struggle are real proud of you.

You guys say you are out for yourself yet you are the first to line up at a public piggy bank.

If you are really out for yourself, go out and start your own business. Take a risk, put your money where your mouth is - come on big shots, let's see what you got.

But you ain't got nothing! That's why you work for a public agency. Remember that old saying, "those who do DO, those who don't end up working on the public payroll." What a couple of losers that think just because they filled out a public employee application they deserve to have their asses kissed. You two guys are classic pussies!

10:19 is wrong. Nothing to do with hating anyone or working for another public agency just for more $$. You would think that other unions would be supportive, instead of (wrongly) fearing that AV will somehow grab into the their beloved cookie jar.

EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK

10:40 You are a classic retard. You are so STUPID to think that if a DWP position opened up right now for any of my "union brothers and sisters," they would turn it down. Sit down and shut up. Idiot. Who is going to turn down money? Who? Even if you work for a private company, if you are not happy with your salary what do you do? DO you sit and wait for someone to say "Good job, here's more money?" OR do you ask for a raise or even the possible seeking out of a better job opportunity.

What makes you think that I don't have a another side venture to support my lifestyle? My 4 cars and 2 houses sure do say that I don't rely on the city alone to pay me you idiot.

Don't act holy, because if a better job opportunity came along for whatever field that you are in, you would take it. Don't tell me that you will stay loyal to your company and refuse a 17% pay hike.

Suck it.

I'll stay loyal to my four companies because I own them and I even have enough free time to get on this blog. You obviously are blogging while getting paid from my tax dollars. If your side ventures are succesfull, why stay on the public payroll. Because you are a moocher. And probably have been for your whole life, everyone knows the type of person you are.

And no, I won't take another job, contract or sale just because there was more money on the table. I'm a better person than that. It's called integrity - the #1 looked up word on Webster's online dictionary - look it up. If you offer the best product and service you will always get top dollar, that's business.

If that is your philosophy in life, why not just go out on the street and turn $50 blow jobs - this is obviously the mind set you possess. If this is your philosophy then those 4 cars and 2 houses just end up spelling LOSER!

If all of america was as idealistic as you are, then there would be no problems in this world right? *rolls eyes* When it all boils down, you can only look out for yourself and family. Are you out aiding the cure for cancer, spreading your wealth out to your friends and impovrished strangers? Do you donate all the time to the worthy causes? You talk big like you are some fucking saint. You claim that it is integrity. Riiiiight. I had no idea that taking care of oneself was called a lack of integrity. SO when people are out there looking out for themselves and making sure that they get the best money possible for their lives to provide for themselves and a family, it means lack of integrity?
Ok, and you just stated that you will not trade up better opportunities for money. Huh. Ok, you "own 4 companies" and say you are offered an opportunity to own 4 different companies that are parallel in workload and system, BUT make 20% more in profit, near identical companies, you are not going to take that offer? Bullshit. You know it.

explain this to me then, why is it that these EAA members talk down about DWP and how horrible the place is; but, when they found out that I was transferring there, they all asked me "hey hook me up if you find any job openings." Why? Explain that. Is it lack of integrity? One person from the EAA transferred to DWP took a demotion from an Associate III down to an Associate II because the benefits and pay was better for his wife and kids, is that a lack of integrity??

what 4 companies do you own if you really own any

Bob Aquino has taken the first step in uniting all of the unions. By sending a copy of this report to ALL of the unions he is demonstrating what true union leaders do; help their brothers and sisters and build coalitions. If the other unions really want to make a difference they will stop all of their petty nonsense, take his lead, join with EAA, and FORCE the city to give all unions equal pay for equal work.

Are you listening Julie? As one of your members I will be calling you to demand you behave like a true union leader. If you don't, a group of us are ready to vote you out.

I hope this provides some useful information for EAA members. The concept of equal pay for equal work is actually considered by the City. DWP salaries are compared with the salaries of local utilities such as Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank and also the salaries of private utilities such as SCE, PGE and Sempra. DWP salaries are typically more than smaller utilities and less than the private utilites across all job classifications. SCE engineers turn down DWP job offers because it would be a pay cut.

It is more difficult when the salaries are compared for "Council Controlled" Departments. When departments like LA's Public Works salaries are compared to the salaries of other Public Works Departments such as Glendale, PAsadena, Burbank or any other municipality in Southern California, then typically LA PW salaries are at the top of the comparables.

Basically, it's a matter of comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges. The salary ranges posted on every Personnel Department job bulletin cover the range of salaries for all Departments using that class. The decision which department an individual ends up in is not forced on any candidate. The salaries are public info available before any job offer is made or accepted. If you work for DWP, you get above average utility pay. If you work for LA PW, you get top PW pay. Just ask any PW engineer in Glendale, Pasadena or Burbank.

EAA's tactic of trying to match up with Local 18's MOU will not work. And why would you want to. Local 18's COL has flaws. It is tied to a single month using a national CPI index which is LESS than the LA-Long Beach-Riverside County CPI index. Local 18's members actually receive a COL which is less than what it is here in LA. Don't believe me? Look it up at the Bureau of Labor Statistics website that posts the CPI's.

Instead, EAA needs to emphasize the critical work its members do for this city each day. EAA needs to craft a MOU that may give less COL but gets other financial concessions that yield a comparable overall MOU to Local 18's. Work with the Mayor, do you really think he'll listen if you keep demonizing him?

Anyhow, thanks for reading my post, I wish you all good luck. And lastly, don't believe everything your union tells you, I don't, even now.

A Local 18 (and former EAA) member.

Boy you sure do have a narrow view of the world. I never said that taking care of your family is a demonstration of lack of integrity. The way you go about taking care of your family could show the world jsut the kind of integrity, or lack thereof, that you possess. Take you for example, you belonged to a union at EAA and then you jumped ship to the DWP. Why, because you day anyone else would have done the same thing. Well what about your other co-workers at EAA - ever hear the saying that RATS are the first off a sinking ship. Your selfish "me-first" attitude is what constitutes your lack of integrity. And yet, you are still on the pulbic payroll. Keep tooting your horn, because I'm sure no one else is doing it for you. Me, me , me - what a narrow view! Tragic.

Ok 7:04, tell me the truth. If one of the EAA members right now had the opportunity right in their lap. You honestly believe that they will turn it down.

I think YOU are the one with a narrow view of the world. Wake up my friend. Smell the coffee. The world is not ideal as you claim it to be. It is awesome and great that you have "loyalty." I applaud you for it... but when it comes down to it. It is all about making sure that your family and yourself is taken care of.

You talk as if these co-workers of mine at the EAA are against transferring over. You know damn well that they would if they got the chance. Ask any of them right now. Go ahead. I can promise and gauruntee 100% that they will take a better opportunity. It's called promotion.

Fine, let's say that i decided NOT transfer to DWP. Are you going to give me extra money to help feed my family? No of course not. Are you and other coworkers going to help me out with monetary needs when needed? Like hell you will and you know it.

This is a capitalistic nation, not socialistic/communism. Get real. To call me selfish that I took a promotion here at DWP is just plain stupid.

This is a losing argument for you. In the working world, people will take whatever opportunity is best for them. For you to dare call someone selfish when they have a promotion in front of them is one of the dumbest things that i have ever heard of in my entire life. You want a work environment where your coworkers will refuse a pay increase or job promotion because it is unfair for his "brothers?" Then build a goddamn time machine and live in the USSR. From the sound of it all, it's like the pot calling the kettle black. You're obviously the loser here and lying that you own 4 companies.

With your type of attitude, you are obviously lying about owning 4 companies. There is no way in hell that someone who owns 4 companies will turn down better opportunites. You sound like one of the former coworkers of mine who would get jealous that others were getting promoted and not him.

I hope my former coworkers are trying their best to promote and transfer. I wish the best for them unlike you who does NOT want to see someone move up in the world unless you do first. IN FACT, my former coworkers INCLUDING MY OLD BOSS still ask me if there are openings here at DWP and I'm trying to help them out. Is that a lack of integrity? Get real dipshit.

With that said, Go fuck yourself. seriously.

7:04,

You are calling this other guy (2:23 and 8:40 assuming that it's the same individual) a selfish person for taking a job transfer/promotion that would benefit him and his family? Are you insane?

Why would you be against someone taking a transfer/promotion? I speak for many of us EAA members and would say that we would do the same. Our families and ourselves come first. If I received a job promotion, i would jump on it as much as the next guy would. Who wouldn't?
