Arnold: Tookie Dies**
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced he will not grant clemency to Crips founder and convicted murderer Stanley "Tookie" Williams. Pending any further stays or court action, Williams will die by lethal injection at 12:01 a.m.LAPD on alert.
**In the meantime, the blog of record is leading with an annual Bruin tradition of running around Westwood in underwear.

Nice move moron. Do it right away so that there is no appeal, no open reviews, just expidited state sponsored murder. Over 100 people have been exhonerated while on death row sometimes hours before their death. In this case he claims to be innocent but I don't know I wasn't there... which is why I oppose the death penalty.
What I get is that most of those praising and even looking forward to his death are the same conservatives who claim to be so in tune with religion. What happened to compassion? What happened to forgiveness? What happened to "vengence is for the lord and not man"?
How any human could praise the death of another human being is a sickening demonstration of where we are as a society.

"We deserve this fate" said the one who then got to go to heaven. He accepted his fate, admitted guilt, and was "redeemed" the only place people can be redeemed according to the Christian faith... in the next life, AFTER they've taken responsility here.

Regardless of your overall position on capital punishment, you really have to be a sick person to delight in some one else's death. Anyone who cheers at this announcement has some serious personal anger shit to deal with.
As to why he has never apologized. What if he didn't do it? Would you apologize for something you didn't do? I obviously don't know if he did it or not, but I think we can agree that our judicial system is not fool-proof.

It isn't sick or perverted to be glad that justice will finally be done. What IS perverse is to stretch out the administration of justice until the victims are dust in the ground and their families can barely remember what they looked or sounded like.

Does the State have the right to execute people for any specified category of crimes? And if so, can we possibly assure that the decisions will not be capricious in some or many cases?
To me, the right to kill criminals is far too much authority to hand over to the State, and can only end badly for many, as it has in Texas and Georgia.
No convicted killer can possibly put a human face on the death penalty. In choosing to kill, a killer has already forfeited humanity. But there are those among us who think that we similarly give up our own when killing a man to administrate justice.

You've reversed your argument, JM. It's BECAUSE the state has no "humanity" (and so, is "without sin") that's it's the ONLY one that has the right to cast those stones.
Anyone with "humanity" wouldn't be "without sin" -- would be hypocritical and not able to do the deed. Which goes right back your first attempt to sound "more 'christian' than thou."

As for AV (a former gangster himself) laying low, well, the residents of LA want justice. And just as he stood with the "janitors for justice" he is shutting his mouth on this one. Where are all the Tony lovers who used to rant and rave about what a wonderful country this is because low life punks like Tony the Liar can reform themselves and grow up to be somebody. There is a lot of similarity between Tookie and Tony besides their age. Both were Gang bangers, except Tony tries to excuse it by saying he was in a car club; both were drug dealers - the CRIPS and Bloods were and are first and foremost, drug cartels, Tony never got to this level but his dealing did get him kicked out of Cathedral High School; both are braggarts and their bragging always got them in trouble, Tookie's bragging is leading to his death, Tony's bragging about his fights and conquests led to his political career.
A comparative narrative on these two Angelenos' lives would make and interesting documentary.

Everyone who got fooled by his fake smile and scripted soundbites during his campaign should have dug deeper. Public safety must be a mayor's highest priority. It was Jim Hahn's highest priority and crime is down because of it.

I am pretty much against the death penalty but if we're going to have it, a guy like Tookie Williams deserves it the most. The man is a cold blooded killer.
I will be shocked if there are any disturbances in LA tonight requiring LAPD response. For one thing, the protesters are not from bad parts of town. They're a handful of peaceful liberal (mainly white) activists.
I honestly wish people would stop trying to defend Tookie so much. He hasn't done much to change lives, he's never repented for his crimes, or even apologized to the relatives of victims. Goodbye and Good Riddance.

I don't think there is a god. I don't think there is a heaven or a hell. I think Jesus was a really good man who walked the earth 2000 years ago, but not a messiah.

Jim Hahn did nothing to reduce crime; all they did was change the way they reported it and eliminate the double counting on things like burglary-murder-rape, etc.
By doing so, they "reduced" the reported events and Poopie tried to ride that horse to re-election.
He ignored the prevalent dishonesty in all those around him, from Ted Stein, to Leland Wong, to Doug Dowie and lots of others, and sold his soul to the Devil for campaign contributions.
He got what he deserved; don't try to tell us he lowered crime. He should have spent the money on more police instead of the waste of a plan to redo LAX that was doomed from the start.

Antonio Villaraigosa was not a gang banger! You obviouilsy didn't know this punk growing up. Antonio or Tony Vilar as he was known then, used to run with a car club. They hung out together, drank together, stole cars together and gave their girl posses reds - before the advent of date rap drugs - together. Sounds like a gang to me. What was that tatoo that Tony had removed - "Born to Raise Hell." There is a file on an FBI raid on that 6th Street apartment Tony had in Boyle Heights - he was cultivating marijuana in his attic - yet Tony denies ever living in Boyle Heights, but the neighbors still remember him - as a gang banger!
