LAUSD School Board Election
As noted in the Press Events for Monday post, starting at 8:00 AM today, people interested in running for the Los Angeles school board seat vacated when Jose Huizar was elected to the City Council can begin picking up declarations of intent to become a candidate at the Los Angeles City Clerk's office.

Filing for the school board seat vacated by Huizar (Dist. 2) starts today and by all accounts it will probably consist of a bunch of political hacks:
1. A former chief of staff who served for an underwhelming school board member;
2. A former aide to that same underwhelming board member; and
3. A three time loser for elected office and a failed school board candidate against Tokofsky.
Let's hope a reform candiate with some private sector experience and skills appears. We need solid representation in District 2 and not another do-nothing board member.
Whatever your feelings about Jose Huizar, the truth is that most of the good things he was able to accomplish were because of Monica Garcia.
She is smart, competent, focussed and committed to improving education for LAUSD students.

Monica is that you posting? Please, Jose was known to have the weakest staff in the district (which includes Monica). Monica should have tried to get appointed because she can't win this thing otherwise.
Oh, and Monica did a terrible job MCing Jose's swearing in ceremony at the L.A. Theatre.
So, if thet's true about Monica, why was Jose elected councilmember? Villaraigosa's antics have ruined CD14.

Is Tony the Liar going to name his sister, Deborah Villar, to oversee this $35 million for school health. She was married to the Director of Community Health Foundation and also part of the executive management team and then it went under. She jumped from The Broadway perfume counter to managing community health care, no wonder this $40 million a year clinic went under. And Community Health Foundation already had clinics in six eastside schools - each providing dental care.
Regarding L.A. Best, watch Ron Martinez, Gloria Molina's husband, get another contract. Just like the one Mike Hernandez steered to him after he placed third out of three in an open bid for an L.A.'s Best contract.

Thanks previous poster. I'm shocked Monica actually decided to run. I think she's going to find out how hard it is to win when you have nothing to offer the residents of District 2. All weight jokes aside, no amount of influence from elected officials is going to turn her into a winner.

There are many Huizar supporters who used to play on Pacheco's team that are now saying that Huizar used Tony to get elected. They insist he is his own man. They know that the activists in CD14 will make the next 18 months a living hell for Huizar and they know they have to distance him from Tony to be effective. Too bad he chose Alvin as his first hire - can anybody say fall guy? Poor Alvin - DOH! Huizar needs a scapegoat for all the shit coming his way. Is this why Nellie was crying?
What are the educatgional backgrounds of those interested in running for School Board. Do they have college degrees and if so, do they do as good a job as Alvin and Huizar in hiding them? Alvin in particular does hide his UCLA degree very well, just like Tony.
I heard that Monica can really relate to the kids- mainly because she can't keep up with an adult conversation... don't know much about the ed background of the candidates.
