Young Democrats: Political Hacks in Training

Here is a first hand, anonymous report of fun and frivolity with your friendly neighborhood Young Democrats. We can not vouch for the facts but are publising our reader's words verbatim. Opposing viewpoints are of course always welcome.

Tonight, I observed the travesty of Democracy known as the elections of the Los Angeles County Young Dems. Remember these are the same shady people who voted against the UTLA, who tried to endorse Mayor Riordan, who endorsed Hahn in a the shadiest of ways, and who tonight fixed an election by stuffing the ballot box. Proving above all else they are nothing but hacks and without ethics.

A special ethics award goes to President Kristen Montet who actually reported an election that was orally called for the candidate who lost--this in an effort to appease her minions.

Daniel T. Gryczman wins the award for loser of the night, although people claimed he won what should havee been an uncontested election, this councilman knows he lost. This of course is the same Daniel T. Gryczman who orchestrated the ridiculous endorsement of Hahn and of course who organized a whisper campaign against Jeff Daar at the Rent Control Board. Daniel T. Gryczman got his due when the Mayor kicked all lobbyists off City Boards and Commissions. Rumor has it that Daniel T. Gryczman is running for City Council in CD-5. This councilman would hate to have him on the council, Daniel, of course is for sale to the highest bidder, whether developer or drug company, Daniel takes money from them--of course he then votes in their interest at endorsement meetings...pillar of ethics, pillar of character.

Lucy Okumu, of course was re-elected to the Board over other well qualified candidates. Lucy, who lives in Sacramento most of the time, failed to mention that in her Los Angeles COUNTY Young Democrats candidate speech...well I guess 450 miles is not too far to travel for voter fraud.

Good news from LACYD came with Alex de Ocampo, won for VP of Programming. Alex, undeniably can be seen as a pillar of morality, and virtue. Alex, former President of California Young Democrats, and works in Political consulting for Hollywood. Hopefully he will beat some ethics and some sense into the ethically challenged. Mind you Daniel said, "You are such a fucking asshole," to Alex upon announcement of Alex's victory. Character always: Daniel T. Gryczman for CD-5.

Along with Alex, Becca Doten won her uncontested election. To you grassroots people, you know that Becca is monument of morality and values. She stands up for what is right, and acts in a way that represents great leadership.

Of course, write-in candidate Colleen Callahan beat out Will Cipes in his re-election attmept for Membership Director. In an open vote Colleen won. Why then did Daniel T. Gryczman win when all his voters could not get their act together to vote for Colleen? Hmmm...do I smell frauf? Why did Luch Okumu beat Evan Carter when her voters could not elect Mr. Cipes? Do I smell foul play? Hmmmm, whatever you want to call it, it stinks.

I saw the former Chief Parker in attendance, as well as many known political entities in City Hall. All were shocked and surprised at the ridiculous nature of the Los Angeles County Young Democratic failing as democratic action.

This councilman challenges any of them to release the actual vote counts, and turnover the actual ballots for inspection.

LACYD proves again, the only democratic thing about them is their name!!!
Champions of political leadership, and saviours of the party: LACYD, a group that means nothing!!!!

Daniel T. Gryczman is the most unprofessional person that I have ever worked with. I'm not sure why Manatt keeps him employed. I'm not surprised by this email post that confirms what I suspected. He is a bad person inside and out.

Mr. Moss there was no fraud, this is an active and energized club that serves the county of Los Angeles well.

Monet is a great President and i've always suported her.

I wish all the new executive committee members my best -- im sure this new spark of energy the club now has will bode well for us in 06. And, well i know chief parker was voting another way, he is a friend of mine, and for the record he is loved by everyone.

So to his haters on this blog (who probably need high doses of medication from being on the losing side of his campaigns) let it go. We were on opposite sides last night and he could of cared less, he is a solid guy and someone i'd always want on my side.

I want to know why LACYD (via the President) didn't allow a third party to observe the ballot counting, even though there was a motion on the floor to have that happen. (It was denied because, and I quote, "we've never done it that way before.") Also, why do they refuse to let us know the number of votes each person recieved?

I'm not saying that there was foul play here, but by being secretive, we give the illusion of impropriety.

We're too young to act like we're BushCo in Ohio. Next year I hope things are much more transparent.

Also, this post mentions other notable political folks there, anyone else there for us to know about? Maybe a CD 14 field staffer? Was he/she there to take notes on the all the neighborhood watch business?

This blog is so unfortunate because it was written without any courage of conviction or fact checking. I doubt that most of what is written here is true—its too bad that Montet, Gryczman and their comrades are maligned in such a disheartening way— its just sad.

By the way, I was one of the people last night who was almost disenfranchised. When I complained that my name wasn’t on the voting roster I was told that there was no provisional balloting and that I was just out of luck. I went up to Gryczman, who doesn’t even know me at all, and he made sure that I would get to vote on a provisional ballot—even though he could probably guess that I was there with the “other side”.

Therefore, I have to assume that the only truth to the blog is that Gryczman called Alex an asshole because I heard that myself, but perhaps Alex deserved it after treating well-intentioned folks like Gryczman and the entire organization with such disrespect. The only folks that look bad are Alex and Ari Moss and their friends who obviously wrote this blog—and who I unfortunately voted for. Let’s just say, what goes around comes around.

A word for Ari:

He was as much a lawyer as anyone else who works for a law firm while awaiting bar results, and the same label is applied to many recent law school graduates. It may have taken him longer, but he deserves the title; he worked hard for it. Plus, he uses his powers for good, not evil.

I may not agree with the choices he made in this election but his intentions are always the best. And while "the road to hell is paved with the best of intentions" he is always sincere and thoughtful and well-meaning in his choices, something I cannot say for each of my fellow YDs.

Good luck to LACYD with the coming year. You survived a difficult election and I know the good work that you do will eventually eclipse this small problem that we encounter along the way.

The election was disorganized, but fair. Look folks, this was their first contested election in almost 10 years!

While CYD may have regularly contested elections, the same is not true of all clubs.

Kristen, Randy, Lucy and everyone else are very straight shooters (even if Kristen in advertantly forgot for the second time that Lachman served on the LACYD Board with her in 2001).

By the same stretch, Alex is a little intense, but his heart is in the right place.

The new blood will broaden the perspective of LACYD beyond City Hall and the returning board will maintain the traditions (and hopefully LACYD will not recommend endorsing any more Republican propositions).

Let's try to stay focused on the real enemy.

Now we have disgruntled Hahn fans, disgruntled AV fans, even though they're not sure why they are disgruntled, disgruntled CD 14 watchers and now we have some disgruntled young county dems.

Great.

The night sounds shocking, disgusting and unfair. I hope most of this is rumor. On the other hand, this could be a good indication of the direction we are heading with the "young" leadership and from the sounds of their petty fighting, it's no fucking wonder we have Bush and Arnold in office. The young dems were too busy fighting each other. The Republicans stabilized and kicked our ass.

I am a big fan of the internet and the blogs - but every so often you see a few idiots give this medium a really bad name. The way Daniel Gryczman has been unfairly attacked on this blog not only makes me feel bad about being a young Democrat, but it frankly turns me off to politics altogether. To be honest, the baseless attacks against Daniel are so far off the mark that they dont even merit a response - but I am so pissed off after reading them that I just cant help myself.

In a nutshell, this is perhaps the most transparent case of sour grapes that I have ever witnessed. LACYD holds an election, Daniel wins, and the loosers decide to anonomoyously trash him on a local blog instead of accepting defeat graciously. (I know we are "Young Democracts" but that does not give people lisence to act like @#$@#$ third graders)!

Anyone who knows Daniel would agree that he is a person of unimpeachable integrety who adheres to the highest ethical standards. For him to be maligned by a bunch of sore loosers who are too chicken shit to affix their names to their slanderous attacks is a joke.

As for the rumors about Daniel as a candidate for CD-5 - I have no idea if the guy is interested in running. But it is clear from these attacks that a few young Dems are just a little bit bitter -and dare I say jealous - about the prospect of a Gryczman candidacy. Although I am sure it may make a few of you feel better about yourselves to tear someone down who could have a bright future in politics - it is counter productive and gives the organization a bad name.

I have to give today's loosers some creidt. They managed to inject more acrimony, negativity, and slanderous attacks into a little LACYD election than I ever thought possible. At the end of the day you can really be proud of what you accomplsihed - you lost both the election and your integrety! Well done!
