Battle of the Progressives?

PachecoNick Pacheco supporters appear to be hot and bothered by the Northeast Progressive alliance endorsement of "Weezy". To quote their e-mail directly:
I was disappointed to read in the Eagle Rock Post that the Northeast Progressive Alliance had not met with Councilman Nick Pacheco before deciding to help School Board Member Jose Huizar. I must admit I am not familiar with Jose Huizar'’s progressive record, but if they had spoken with the Councilman they would have found out the following:
The e-mail continues to list many of Pacheco's "Progressive" accomplishments, (I'll list below), but concludes with the following:
Like I said, I don'’t know Jose's progressive record, but I would like to see it compared to the Councilman'’s and had the Northeast Progressive Alliance interviewed Nick they would have seen he has an impressive progressive record,– one worthy of their support.
While this is nothing new in politics, it does beg to question, what are Weezy's accomplishments?

Partial list of Pacheco accomplishments:
As Executive Vice-President of the Student Body at UC Berkeley:–
1. Nick funded the first Empowering Women of Color conference
2. Declared the campus a sanctuary for Central American Refugees in the 1980s and,
3. co-founded the progressive student political party CalSERVE (Cal Students for Equal Rights and a Valid Education)

As Charter Reform Commissioner:–
1. Nick pushed for the creation of neighborhood councils with land use authority,
2. demanded the protection of the living wage and worker's rights within the charter, and
3. demanded a local resident sit on the harbor and airport commissions to have local input.

As Council Member:
1. Nick developed the Neighborhood Leadership Institute to train local residents as leaders,
2. used eminent domain to protect open space against a developer,
3. advocated for the low build alternative against the 710 freeway,
4. called on the Police Commission to reject Kroeker as a candidate for chief because of his history of discriminating against gays,
5. created Environmental Fairs for each area of Council District 14, and
6. introduced a motion in support of the movement to protect the Women of Juarez.
7. Supported and partially funded The Wall: Las Memorias
Hey Chief! Gonna stick up for your boy? Where's his list?

Hey Chief Barkan

You want to talk about lists, why don't you list what was so wrong with La Colectiva. They have plenty of court records and D.A. investigations to exonerate themselves from all the lies Parke Skelton put out. And you can't get more progressive than starting out as a food cooperative for low income families in Boyle Heights.

Even Huizar was a big fan of La Colectiva. In 1999, after Nick defeated Griego, it was Huizar who came to the defense of some Colectiva workers who were pulled over by the LAPD for "excessive celebrating." Huizar acted as their attorney and the police let them go.

So once again, Chief Barkan, lay out your list on La Colectiva and stop hiding behind inuendos. Keep in mind La Colectiva's court victories- so you have fair warning - tread carefully.

LISTS????

Parker, FIRST you must dig out that long-researched list of 80 NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHES the prima donna mayor-to-be claimed as one ot only 2 accomplishments to justify the $300,000 he made from 2003-2005 off the city of L.A.

You promised, you swore, you said you had the goods.... you said you called LAPD, and got MORE than 80.

Now you're pumping the LAUSD board member with the MOST failing schools in the whole city in HIS district???

Of COURSE you are, you lying loser!

You are right initially about Cal Inc not originally being La Colectiva but it didn't take long before you couldn't distinguish one from the other. Looking back, one could see how Cal Inc could easily be seen as a vehicle to provide work for LC and Nick's friends. It was not an issue of Cal Inc not being able to sustain itself. You could say that some people from out of town and the actions of Nick's childhood friends hurt the reputation of Cal Inc. As usual, Nick is listening to the wrong people. He won't win because he has taken the wrong people for granted again.

5:01 ANON states:

"...but it didn't take long before you couldn't distinguish one from the other."

And how exactly were they like each other? La Colectiva was incorporated in 1994, Cal Inc in 1999. La Colectiva was operating under it's own contracts long before Cal Inc ever came into existence. They each operated with different boards that didn't really see eye to eye on many issues.

Just more inuendo and lies to smear an organization that didn't have to kiss Skelton's and Contrera's ass to be successful. La Colectiva took part in two campaigns in two years to gain two Latino city council seats - Pacheco in '99 and Reyes in '01. It had taken Molina and Alatorre's generation 25 years to get one Latino seat after Roybal left to congress in 1961. The success of these young Latino activists scared the shit out of the old Latino power establishment so they set out to do what they do best, if you can't beat them, smear them.

Again, name one thing for which La Colectiva was found to be in violation. Four DA investigation in two years couldn't find anything. And in La Colectiva's lawsuit against the county, four judges ruled in their favor.

As for Nick listening to the wrong people, he didn't listen to those who had been running the now defunct La Colectiva in 2003 when he lost to Antonio and he didn't listen to them again in 2004 when he lost for D.A.. So you are right, in those two elections he was listening to the wrong people.

But you are wrong when you say that Nick took the wrong people for granted. He took the voters of the 14th for granted in 2003, he won't make the same mistake twice. Nothing like a good ass whipping to get that fire in the belly burning again.
