Council Election Date Almost Set
From CNS
LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A City Council committee recommended today that a vote to fill seats being vacated by Mayor-elect Antonio Villaraigosa and outgoing Councilman Martin Ludlow be combined with a Nov. 8 statewide special election. In making the recommendation, the council's Rules and Elections Committee went against the advice of City Clerk Frank Martinez, who wanted to have the primary election Oct. 11 and the runoff election Dec. 3. Council President Alex Padilla has said he preferred an election scheduled would coincide with a statewide ballot, allowing voters to avoid an extra trip to the polls and possibly boosting turnout. The other two council members on the committee, Dennis Zine and Wendy Greuel, agreed with him today. The committee's recommendation calls for consolidating the two elections, meaning the local offices and statewide initiatives would be on the same ballot. The matter will go before the full council on Friday. If the council votes to hold the city election in November, a run-off, if needed, would be held in late January. Villaraigosa will be sworn in as Mayor July 1. Ludlow, meanwhile, is leaving to become the new head of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.
Recent news, School Board President Jose Huizar was appointed to sit on the Princeton University Board, I suppose while Jose is sitting on a prestigious board like that Nick will be in Santa Barbara doing a keg stand.
Also there's some new news regarding our friend Mr Pacheco. Today the Ethics Commission fined Edward Hutcherson Jr., the owner of Seems Plumbing Co. and Cal Building Maintenance Industries, admitted to reimbursing two employees for political contributions made to the campaigns of Councilmen Tony Cardenas, and Tom LaBonge along with former Councilman Nick Pacheco, according to the commission.
More friends of Pacheco getting caught up in trouble -- does this guy know any clean, criminal free individuals?

Is it true that a interim person can be appointed by city council until after elections? Word is even though people have said it would be the CLA they can appoint anyone they want.

Hey, they don't call Jose Huizar "Sleazy Huizy" for nothing!
There will be a ton of stuff that comes out on him this election.

you said it - Huizar has enough problems with Richard Meruelo and LAUSD contractors to end his political career right now. Why is he even running against a known dirty campaigner?

Princeton University Board! I wonder how many of those LAUSD kids Huizar can get into Princeton. Does Princeton have remedial classes?

Chief Barkan, you ask about Pacheco,
" -- does this guy know any clean, criminal free individuals?"
Well does Lee Baca qualify? He endorsed Pacheco three weeks ago.

MITCH ENGLANDER FOR CD 12???
That's right, the nephew of Sunshine Canyon lobbyist and the most despised Chief of Staff in recent memory is also a new CD12 Resident, but that's not all.
It appears the Mitch has a sudden interest in law enforcement, and has signed up for the LAPD Reserves. With as emotional as that tiny little man is, god help us if they let him carry a gun.
Obviously Mitchell wishes to follow his bosses lead (although most will say Mitch has Mr $mith on the leash) and he has no problem blatently using the LAPD to get votes even though under Mr $miths leadership, CD 12 IS NOW THE MOST UNDERSTAFFED POLICE DIVISION IN ALL OF LOS ANGELES. (4 Cars for all of Devonshire Division is not uncommon)
When Mr $mith first ran for CD12, he made the following prommisses:
1- He would INCREASE our "fair share" of officers - WE NOW HAVE LESS THAN WHEN HE STARTED.
2- He was "The only candidate with a plan to shut down Sunshine Canyon" - HE NOW IS RENEWING THE CONTRACT FOR SUNSHINE
3- Land use decisions "should be made by the community referring to Neighborhood Councils] amd not some downtown beurocrat" - HE HIDES EVERYTHING FROM THE NC'S AND MAKES ALL DECISIONS HIMSELF
4- He would "Protect the equestrian lifestyle" of Chatsworth - HE IS ELIMINATEING THE EQUESTRIAN TRAILS
GREIG $MITH AND MITCH ENGLANDER ARE SIMPLY SELLOUTS. I truly hope we find a way to get these to into the unemployment line, and soon. But Mitch for CD12... HELL NO!!!!

Lameboy Padilla is just carrying water for Tony the Liar. They need to put off the CD14 election as much as possible so that Huizar can develop some name identification. Lameboy and Tony didn't count on Pacheco getting in the race. Just to show you how slimey Lameboy Padilla has become, he was advising Nick not to cut any deals with Tony, while he was out there cutting his own deals. I guess with Tony as Mayor, Lameboy thinks he can save Acevedo from going down. But anyway you cut it, Acevedo got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and he was handing out cookies to Lameboy Padilla, Napoleon Cardenas and Pretty Boy Alarcon.
Hey Lameboy, with Skelton as Cindy's consultant, do you really think Tony is going to endorse you? Skelton hates you and Cardenas about as much as he hates Nick. Only difference is Nick is sticking to his guns while Lameboy and Cardenas reached for the knee pads first at the first opportunity.

LAUSD is not doing their job, so the Community Colleges have to pick up the slack.
They have to spend public funds on remedial courses that can be used towards REAL transfer courses for the prepared students.
AV call me I have some ideas on higher education.

It looks like the election will be in November. That means about 7 months with no council person. Does anyone have any ideas who they would appoint in the interim to run CD14?

If Huizar gets elected, it will be like there is no council person for 4 more years.

David? If it is you posting, can you give the inside scoop on the Glassell Park land that Meruelo bought just as the LAUSD was about to make a bid?

Yeah Tokosfsky
You've been absent for the last few days. I've even begun to miss your constant acrimonious gabfests on Huizar's restroom. How is your's? You could have refused to have one installed in your office.
How did your meeting with Meruelo go last week? You know , people who live in glass houses . . .
