I was reading through my e-mails yesterday before going to bed last night, and I ran into this little cartoon that was just too hilarious for me not to share. Channel 4 reported tonight that the race is a dead heat. Let MEAT spin that one. The Florida-gate is hurting Attention Deficit Villaraigosa big time. Antonio's negative tv ads are also hurting him because he played them back in March and now he's playing them again but this time he's been caught slling LA to Miami. LAPD offcicers don't want a gangster mayor, he's been a "do nothing councilman" I'm sure another negative story on the Southwest Voter organization is going to implicate him and Molina. Antonio failed to collect $20 million in parking fines as Chair of the transportation committee and let's not forget he hasn't done a thing for education even though he sits on the Committee. It allowed his best friend to buy land that was intended for a school. The LA Times endorsement is a joke citywide. C'mon let's face it he's toast.
Newsflash. On TV this morning Pat Caddell joined the growing list of politico's who is predicting that Jim Hahn will win the election.
Caddell who is not supporting either candidate said he had seen polling which showed dramatic gains for Hahn and after breaking down the undecided, thought he had to be the favorite.
I should also add since this seems to be the site for repeating gossip, there is a rumor going around that the L.A. Times poll which is always a joke showed Hahn ahead and the editor was so stunned at the change that he made them retake the poll.
Do you think Antonio cancelled his Sacramento fundraiser for a reason?
I heard something very similar from flacks with Times connections. . . that the poll was delayed because it would have shown the Times endorsement of ADV coming out right when the race was getting too close to call -- once again making the out-of-touch EastCoast mindset Times lacking any real connection with the people and political realities of Los Angeles.
Years ago there was an upscale magazine called "Pasadena" that one year Caltech journalism students did a biting parody of -- with an added tagline:

The L.A. Times has likewise become the newspaper FOR and ABOUT Santa Monica and Beverly Hills. . . with little relation to the realities of the actual city and it's residents.
If its staffers didn't have to work downtown, some, they would hardly know life exists on the Eastside once they've emigrated here from Ivy League schools on the other coast.
The tag line that Antonio has on his negative tv ad states "LA Times calls him the invisible mayor." Didn't ADV's people tell him that the LA Times has lost more readership this year. Don't they know how many people hate the LA Times? How many editors have they gone through?
It should be obvious to all but the groupies for whom ADV is "my candidate, unqualified or UNNDER-qualified" that there is only one cartoon character in this election.
It's the one who says he "loves the city" but has left it more since 2003 than anyone else. Who wants to be the "mare," even if that does mean a female horse, and who keeps saying he'll "roll up his sleeves" but is so detached from his day job for the city that he has yet to spend LAST year's community improvement funds for it's benefits. The same candidate who "support public education" - juts know for his own brood, and not on a new site that one of his larger donors had other plans for, inches from his posh home. The one who ran on a platform of dealing with rising homicides on his district, but now the numbers are higher than ever.
The one who accuses his opponent of beinh AWOL from city duties, but who missed two more city council sessions just last week.
The one who accuses Hahn of malfeasance over the overbilling of $800K by one contractor while the only committee he actually chairs lost 25 times that amount and can't figure out how to get it back.
That's the "cartoon" here, but it isn't very funny - at all.

The most absentee councilmember calls the mayor "invisible" -- but the work of the city goes on, while CD14 ground to a halt two years ago.
The Hahn campaign does its own poll and circulates it and these fools buy into it.
Ask for their polling data and look at the questions.
Jimmy is at least 10 to 12 points behind and that is solid, not the ABC nonsense.

Let's see he's missed more city council meetings than any other member, missed more education and neighborhood committee meetings, hasn't attended a neighborhood council meeting in his district in 2 yrs, doesn't have any accomplishments to speak of as a councilman accept bringing in outsiders as he did yesterday to sweep the streets, failed on his 10 point public safety plan even though his district has over 17 homicides total, doesn't believe in community policing, will most likely get rid of Bratton because of Parks, belonged to MECHA and has a socialist attitude, supports gang members, supports illegal vendors (look at Boyle Heights), supports child abusers and voted against hard penalities when the child died. LA will NOT vote for this man.

Any poll taken by a candidate is super suspect, especially when it is "leaked". The Kiddie Korps (Deputy Mayors) have been calling all over town with this B.S. "poll". Incidentally, they are doing it on the City's time.
Only a buffoon like Pat Cadell (who has not had a winner since Jimmy Carter) would buy into this nonsense.

Everyone who thinks "pay to play" is an issue in this race is just missing the big issue of leadership.
I saw Cadell interviewed on Ch. 4 this morning (at 9 a.m.), and then also saw that SacramentoNightes posted what he said on another thread. It follows - and is pretty close to what I heard also... (and Cadell didn't reference any particular poll -- certainly not an internal Hahn poll -- he would know better that to suggest a change in expectations based on something that suspect):

To the person taking pot shots at Cadell for his picks, it seems only right that you mention that the reason he's been wrong so often is that he usually selects the most liberal democrat - which, in national races, has generally been the loser of late. This happens because he consistently underestimates the interest and turnout of conservatives and moderates in partisan races. If that's the case here, well...

Funny you'd mention holding noses, Westsider, that's what the activists and community leaders who know ADV have been doing in CD14 for two years, after being buried under a tidal wave of Villaraigosa's bile and misdirection when he couldn't get anything of consequence going for the Eastside.
You wouldn't know about that -- he just comes "west" for fine dining and undeserved campaign riches.
You impugn someone with a national polling reputation, as being, what? "On the take," suddenly, like he cares so little about his national reputational he'd hide points for the perceived leader.
But I'll bet you thought SurveyUSA -- which is to legitimate polling what tinker toys are to the building trades -- was "valuable trending information." Even at that spin, the gap closed 10 percent, BEFORE the dirty Florida money stories hit.
And when someone suggested the KABC-TV's poll was suspect pre-primary because ADV's camp pumped more ad money into that outlet, all the ADV lovers' SCREAMED how IMPOSSIBLE and INSANE that was.
It really is just an unbelievable mindset that says that a candidate unable to move the simplest projects a half-step forward in one small district is going to suddenly become the model mayor of he 21st century, because...?

The "cult" mentality is defintely present when someone like ADV can still be throwing around near-decade-old legislative (shared) accomplishments as qualifying him for a top municipal executive position absolutely nothing like any job he's previously held.
The "trainee" badge will stay on for YEARS if this do-nothing pol gets in the mayor's seat.
Screenwriter Pat Caddell? Give me a break. Were it not for FOX dragging him out periodically as the kind of "Democrat" they like to showcase (ie, one who reflexively trashes his party and candidates) no one would take him seriously.
In 04, he predicted that Bush would win in a landslide and that the Republicans might even carry California (FOX just loved that)
And what evidence does Pat present for his prognostication in the Mayor's race? None. There are no polls out there showing this race close -- only Hahn's minions insisting that it is. But Hahn won't release his polling numbers but he does release a joke sampling of telemarketing calls to who knows who that shows a "dead-heat" and a stupefying 44% undecided.
And Caddell not having an axe to grind? He worked for Hahn in his first CA race -- and had a bloody partnership breakup with Villaraigosa's media consultant, David Doak.

working relationships with other Dem activists and pollsters to not be one of them himself, gets steamed up, but spins nothing but hack propaganda.
I think the crack about the hacks themselves screwing this up - with the Kerry old warhorse trot-out and not seeing the dirty check-writing on the Florida wall must have set the e-mails flying to the blog plants most. Privately, ADV still tells people it was his campaign hacks fault he lost in 2001 because they didn't have a backup plan to cover his Vignali tracks in time, because they assumed Hahn would be a boring, gentlemanly opponent and just die quietly and let the city be run by a thug-coddling conman. But once again, it was a flawed candidate -- hiding his smutty little past screwups from them, that did himself in... fatal flaws he can't outgrow in 4 years, or 40.
Each time they work with this piece of work, they get too invested and believe too much that he's moving people with the same tired vagaries because they keep seeing the lonesome ladies swoon publicly at his showboating "charisma."
ADV's biggest mistake was jumping into Cd14, though, and proving for two years what people said before -- that he's a vapid, clueless dolt that spins soundbytes and empty promises for the gullible. He's vague because he had no plans; he sells "consensus" because he can't lead and needs to wait to see how the wind blows, because he can't REALLY motivate anyone but his paid hacks.
ADV will take respons
(Last line cut)... ADV will take responsibility, all right. But ONLY only for other people's work, and not for his own failings... not as long as he has Hahn to blame publicly for his last defeat, and campaign hacks to blame privately.
Ideas, enthusiasm and vision -- ADV groupies though the words out there like they actually represent their boss. PLEASE... two years of being a city employee proves he saves ALL his ideas and vision for his campaigns. 24 months and $300,000 salary later (plus millions in wasted staff salary), and he can't even TALK about what he's done for the city without fear of exposure. Every barb thrown at Hahn by ADV (AWOL, do-nothing, corrupt), is twice as true of ADV AND in half the time.
CD14 is still waiting for him to START tje job, not end it. He hasn't punched in on the timeclock enough to even dent his time card. The ink on his w2 form is still wet and the discretionary funds for his district are gathering dust from 2003.
He's only enthusiatic about the job until he has it -- then it's on to the next campaign. He's betrayed the public trust of his most forgiving constituents, and less and less of his constituents remain trusting.
GOOD signs in the neighborhood - his neighborhood this week, translated from the Spanish, they say Hahn is a "man of his word."
ADV people can scream about that all they want - Hahn tried to accomplish the things he promised in 2001; succeeded in some, failed in others for a number of reasons, not all his fault.
ADV did NOT even try. That's a HUGE difference.
Hahn could have done better, and will in his second term; ADV could have done SOMETHING, anything, but didn't. His choice alone. All doors were open to him - he had community support, money he never used and a bully council pulpit. He wasted it on failed state (recall) and national (Kerry) campaigns, because that ALL he knows how to do is campaign, not actually WORK.
(Term 2 is when more gets done anyway - Hahn can stop spending so much time focusing on getting re-elected). ADV never gets to a second term, because he's always in the process of moving on, somewhere. He's like TV's "Richard Kimball" always re-inventing himself for the next job, so he never settles in and does a decent job at the one he has.
ADV is Richard Kimball, the "Fugitive Candidate." This week on the show, he's running for mayor (AND from his CM job), but next week, when the truth of his impotency reaches the voters, he has to make tracks, dye his hair, change clothes and move onto another city and another job - just to stay one steps ahead of the truth of his failed political life.

ADV lovers, you can't fool people in L.A. into thinking Hahn has done nothing in 4 years by talking about the schools (which he has no authority over), and about a two-year-old MTA strike -- one episode in four years. We've lived in this city the whole time and know things have improved in a number of areas, despite slashed budgets and money trouble at state. Things would have been MUCH worse if ADV has won four years ago. For one thing, he would STILL be hiding in his 9/11 bunker, he's proven to be such a coward.
Things HAVE been much worse in CD14 in two years and he can't blame anyone but himself. He gave away the time he could have been making a name for himself as a progressive CM - gave it away to every cause but the one that mattered - the improvement of life in his own district.
Don't remain loyal to this conman people, he wasn't loyal to his own constituents and screwed the poorest of the poor, stepping on their dreams to get to the next rung of the ladder.
What did CD14 do SO bad to deserve an absentee CM? L.A. doesn't serve his inattention to its needs other.

INTERESTING timing for this story, in light of all the postings about street vendors on Eastside, and in CD14. Is some assignment editor at LAT reading this blog and all the Anti-ADV rants about street vendors? Are they sending a subliminal message from the Times staff under the radar of the editorial board about how the do-nothing councilmember's inaction is harming the economy of his own constituents?

But it's picture itself that tells the WHOLE story.
Hahn walking alone, smiling, eyes straight forward looking confident -- he KNOWS where he's going.
ADV surrounded by advisors and groupies whispering things in his ears, but all HE can do is start across the chasm at Hahn, frowning, obviously wondering... "what does he know? - why is he so confident?
ADV doesn't KNOW where he's going, even surrounded by advisors, he has to look at the other guys for clues. He's a lost puppy in search of a sign.
Best summary of the campaign so far is tucked into the middle of Times' McGreevy week-in-review report today.
"A typical (Hahn) jab at Villaraigosa came at an Eagle Rock news conference. "He's accomplished exactly nothing during his tenure on the City Council," he said dispassionately.
When the latest Hahn slam is relayed to Villaraigosa, the city councilman from the 14th District fires back, calling Hahn's administration the most investigated since the 1930s."
SEE it, HEAR it... people? It's SO obvious. When Hahn challenges ADV as being a do-nothing councilmember, ADV HAS NO SPECIFIC DEFENSE, no comeback. Because, in two years, he HAS DONE NOTHING.
If elected, you condone this theft of city salary, you say i's OKAY to rob one district of representative, if you deside to lie and run for mayor during week #2.
ADV can only respond with innuendo he can't prove, AGAINST Hahn, because he CAN'T prove he's been an even moderately attentive councilmember for his own district.
Don't condone the slacker, don't promote the underachieving CM to a more responsible job. He's failed as a councilmember and will fail us ALL as a mayor. This is like LAUSD moving ahead the 6th grader who can't read, because "it's time." It fails everyone. ADV needs to take remedial councilmember courses again, before being advanced to the detriment of us all.

ADV groupies here saying Hahn's people are touting their own polls as "real" - but Kuwata today tells the Daily News.
"We don't have polls, but we are making thousands of calls every night and we sense a shift," Kuwata said. "We think that voters are beginning to focus on the difference between the two candidates and we think they will come back to the mayor."
Someone's lying, but SURELY it's not the ADV campaign hack and their groupies? They're supposed to let ADV do all the lying -- he's SO good at it.

Jim Hahn has a make-up poll floating around leaked by his Deputy Mayors who are all on the City of Los Angeles payroll and you ignore the facts and ask us to believe the race is close.
Yet, ABC still maintains 29 points, internal polling for AV shows lower double digits, and the Times poll is on the way, maybe tomorrow.

Voters as of this weekend are now wondering if Attention Deficit Villaraigosa will support Special Issue 40 or have LAPD go after the illegals. There are more illegal vendors in Boyle Heights and ADV tells LAPD to leave them alone. Because of pressure last week they did a very small sweep. Guess what??? The illegal vendors are back. ADV supports gangs so citywide voters are questioning WHY? CD14 has more child molesters then most parts of the city and ADV voted against harder penalities for child abusers resulting in death. Voters are asking WHY? Republicans in valley are pissed that ADV slapped them in their face and took Kerry into their own backyward. WHY? Citywide there is a major shift in momemtum for Hahn. Voters now know that Hahn wanted to add 320 officers 2 yrs ago but ADV's croonies Weiss and Parks strategized and doomed the plan. Hahn implemented more after school programs, gang reduction programs, affordable housing, LAX expansion, brought Chief Bratton (and poster Parks is a loser), brought back community policing something ADV doesn't agree with, brought back Senior Lead Officers, Crime is down.
ADV has accomplished community sweeps of sidewalks.
The Jimmy Hahn Blogging Team, a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation will soon be available for outside engagements.
Cost is reasonable for nayone who has offended Nick Pacheco or one of their hearts. All others pay cash.

Well, I had read in this blog that the papers were going to blitz Antonio this weekend over some stuff about Florida and a guy neame Mereulo.
Did I miss it or am I reading the wrong papers?
I read the LA Times for laughs. I canceled my subscripton and get it online. Today's story by Richard Fausset and David Hernandez is a joke. It just goes to show why LA Times has lost readers and these type of puff piece reporters are there. They both sound like a bunch of girlie fans of ADV. Just like Jessica Vilagarrison. Jessica 2 weeks ago interviewed CD14 constituents and actually became upset that they were not supporting ADV. They told Jessica he was a loser councilman and hadn't accomplished anything. Jessica became somewhat infuriated with them and actually started disagreeing with them. We're yet to see the story. David Zachniser of Daily Breeze puts shame to the LA Times reporters. He has been fair and balanced and includes both sides in his stories with accuracy. The LA Times, Rick Orlov of Daily News should take some lessons from him.
This is unbelievable. The people in Cypress Park are shocked that he was sneaky enough to buy the land for the new school they desperately needed. But lets remember this is Antonio's friend who with his family has donated over $100,000 to his campaign. Antonio never even fought for that school and he goes around talking about education being his priority. HYPOCRITE

They also tell Hensley, an African-American and a South L.A. resident for 35 years, what’s on their minds. “‘These Mexicans’ – that’s the word people use – ‘take care of their own,’” she paraphrases.…….A poll by the Public Policy Institute of California shows the majority of white and African-American respondents worrying that Villaraigosa will make “Latino issues” his priority, notes Jaime Regalado, of the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs at Cal State L.A. “It’s been a black and white world, and suddenly they have to contend with brown,” observes Regalado
Anthony Thigpenn has been an organizer in South Los Angeles for some 25 years and worked with Villaraigosa years ago….He also acknowledges anxiety among African-American voters about a Latino candidate, rooted in the long history of black people being “last hired and first fired” and displaced by other groups. “The real question, besides whether African-Americans will vote for a Latino candidate, is even if they’re persuaded they should vote for him, will they turn out to vote?”

I know it is a tough concept for your CD 14ers, but property goes to the highest bidder at the time.
If some school board could not make up its collective mind, or if they didn't have funding, or any other reason the didn't get off their collective ass and just buy it, that is called capitalism.
I don't know Meruelo from a hot rock and I still feel that if he paid the price he should get the property. That is how our system works.
No one has shown how Villaraigosa did a thing to help Meruelo buy this property or that it was illegal to buy it.
Guilt by association, just because he gavc some money to a candidate, does not make the candidate his partner or his puppet. This differs from Hahn's dirty money which was "washed money".
I've seen nothing illegal here by Antonio. It was good for one story in a paper nobody reads.
Antonio still leads this election by a wide margin.

Hey, I was driving trough Boil Heights yesterday and saw signs for Hahn. In SPANISH. But the worst part - they were the colors of the MEXICAN FLAG!!!!! Come'on Jimmy, I thought you were on OUR side!!! This is as bad as those Ch 62 ads!!!.

Another ADV lover trying to spin. The signs WERE NOT THE MEXICAN FLAG COLORS. You don't have to worry though the ADV lovers took any signs with Hahn's name in CD14 down. They can't take the competition so they harrass, intimindate, and threaten people. A restaurant owner on 1st Street said when he had his Hahn sign in the window, an ADV supporter went in that told him when Antonio is mayor he will come back and shut you down if you don't take that sign out of the window. Wak up people these are the thug mentalities of ADV and his lovers.
Are you sure it wasn't the Italian flag? It doesn't matter what color they were Tony Lover/Turth Hater, what has got you pissed is the message - "Hahn is a man his word!" Tony can't make that claim and in Latino nieghborhoods where the vast majority of men only have their word to go on, this is gold and these people quickly recognize the fool's gold Tony is dishing out.

You just don't get it, do you. Take off your ADV Lover blinders. Jose Huizar and Tony are in cahoots here. Isn't it ironic that the school board didn't move on the property while Huizar was getting in bed with Tony? Huizar had the power to move on this property, heck, he got a $300,000 bathroom with no approval from the board.
This is not called capitalism, it's called back room deals. If Huizar were working on Wall Street he'd be in jail for insider trading. How stupid do you think people are.
Bottom line, Huizar derailed the LAUSD purchase of the Taylor Yards at the request of Tony and Mueruelo so that Muruelo can buy it and make a nice $5 million profit - not bad for a donation to Huizar's opponentless campaign this year and Tony's $100,000 I.E. All this, along with Tony's role in fudnraising for SWVREP will come out this week.
All that money and Tony is re-running comercials. Parke must be getting anxious about his cut of the loot. Voters don't like reruns, espeically those with a message that doesn't carry water anymore - don't you guys read the newspapers?
The rumor about new Hahn signs being in Mexican flag colors is bogus, but even more embarrassing are Antonio's new supersized name-recognition banners. He must have really taken that Times article seriously - about people not voting for a candidate when they can't pronouce his name.
But why, Antonio? Why would you print banners showing people how to say your name and use a POCHO Spanglish pronunication?
We both know these gavachos are stupid -- but any group that spells "phonetics" un-phonetically should be able to master a Spanish double vowel sound with just a bit of help.
