Where Does The Mayor Sleep

Getty HouseIn commenting on the personal profile of Mayor Poopy authored by Noam Levey in the Times, LA Observed's Kevin Roderick muses how the distance from the Mayor's home to other points in the city shows how big LA really is:
Levey uses the remarkable only-in-L.A. stat that I tried to get into my profile of the mayor for Los Angeles magazine last year, but had to lose: Hahn's San Pedro home is 52 driving miles from the other far corner of the city in Chatsworth.
We received an email from Sacramento Nighties who has rapidly become one of the more favorite posters here on the Sister City. He/she asks the question:
Does it really matter where the mayor rests his/her head at nights as long as its within City Limits? Can he/she be too far from the action? Would this limit viable candidates to the 213/323 area codes, or, for that matter isn't City Hall pretty far from the main population centers of the city, too?

If any or all are legit concerns, is it time for LA to create a multi-million Big Orange version of New York City's Gracie Mansion? Should City Hall be somewhere further west by northwest?
Doesn't matter to me, as long as the Mayor isn't asleep at the switch like we have been getting the last four years.

Boy, is Levey groping. I would think there would be plenty to criticize Hahn about without going into something that petty. Does this mean councilmembers should live in the exact center of their districts. Some council districts stretch out for nearly 20-30 miles themselves/ Why not set up a dorm for citywide officials downtown, then they can have rush week and choose up sides more effectively.

Better that they don't abandon their roots and show some respect for the people who probably got them all started in their careers (more locally), in the first place.

I think Levy's point was that Hahn was isolated being that far away from the Valley. But that would also mean that a mayor from the valley could be out of touch with south L.A., the eastside and central city, nearly as much.

Not that that's saying a great deal since only about 5 or 6 poasters actually ID themselves in any way.

Asleep at the switch. Pretty good, MS; even a non-ABH had to chuckle.

Looked to me like he may have been sleeping at the NC debate last night. Was like a split screen - Alarcon and Hertzberg on the left fired up and spewing, and Hahn, Parks, and Villaraigosa on the right going through the motions at half-speed.

Interesting debate last night.

Hard to tell the difference when Hahn is there or when Hahn is not there.

Only difference seems that when he is there we know what the bag looks like that all are punching at. His defense is like swiss cheese.

What were Hahn's handler's thinking?

He still cannot find more money for new police officers, even he says are necessary, and yet he can find the money to give $100,000.00 next year to each neighborhood council to fill their potholes ? Did he ever hear of credibility? of consistency? of priorities ? What is wrong with that man.

Hey Mr.Mayor, great idea !!!! Smooth out the streets sof the bad guy can faster flee the few cops we do have left.

You want the neighborhood councils to get more money? Give them each the $100,000.00 to hire a new cop to be used in their neighborhood council area !! Think out o the box.

Whether the mayor sleeps, you can be sure there's no shortage of cops there.
