More Democrats For Tony
West LA Democrats Pick Villaraigosa
Personal Appearance Couldn’t Save Hahn From Lopsided Vote
Los Angeles – Councilmember Antonio Villaraigosa picked up another Democratic endorsement last week. In a February 2nd vote of the West Los Angeles Democratic Club, Villaraigosa received 59 of 97 ballots cast.
Continuing his all out push for Democratic endorsements, Mayor Jim Hahn made a personal appearance at the meeting, but was unable to persuade members to support him for a second term. A surrogate spoke on behalf of Villaraigosa because of a previous commitment.
Villaraigosa also recently received the endorsement of the California Democratic Council. Founded in 1953, CDC is the California Democratic Party's official statewide organization of grassroots clubs and represents thousands of Democratic activists statewide.
“I’m honored that so many Democratic organizations have chosen to support my candidacy,” Villaraigosa said. “Democrats know that I am committed to a progressive agenda in this campaign and for our city.”
These endorsements are the latest in a growing list of Democratic organizations backing the Villaraigosa campaign, including:
–Northeast Democratic Club
–Stonewall Democratic Club
–Southern California Chapter of Americans for Democratic Action
–West LA Democratic Club
–California Democratic Council
Villaraigosa also received the most votes of any candidate last month at the Los Angeles County Democratic Party endorsement meeting.

Nope, Mayor Sam. That's a shot of Antonio standing in front of the Southwest Museum, the pride and joy of his posh home community. That historic Native American museum is currently enjoying having its collection pillaged by the "cowboys" up the road (Gene Autry) under Villaraigosa's watch.

I think that's a photo of him by the Southwest Museum.

72 percent at NE Dems. Sounds like 8 out of 11. Advantage Antonio!

To SN: It's odd that you quote a message from Mitch O'Farrell, the President of the NE Dems. Last time I checked, his boss is endorsing Hahn. I'm sure that Hahn wasn't too happy with whatever info Mitch might have provided to his camp giving them the impression that he could take the endorsement or prevent it from going to Antonio had he shown up instead of going to the Valley where his numbers are in trouble.

Big loss for Hahn, not getting 72 percent of a group based in ADV's neighborhood that could have posed for The Last Supper (i.e., for you agnostics/atheists, that's 1 JC + 12 disciples, bt with similar "passion")

Why is O'Farrell's boss, (Garcetti, right?) endorsing Hahn over Tony V? Isn't he a Northeast proressive as well?

Big boo boo, bringing up council endorsements like that. Did anyone ever figure out if any of the neighborhood council presidents in District 14 are actually supporting Villaraigosa? It was a hot button on here a bit ago.

Looks like about the only city councilmembers not endorsing Hahn are running against him.

Bitter Bernie and Tony Villar don't seem to have made many friends on the council in two years, then.

TOUCHE!!!!!! Its amazing to me how we can all live in one city and yet the Westside has absolutely NO CLUE the bitterness, the resentment and all the other negatives Antonio's constituents feel towards him. If they only knew how much they wanted him out. I hear people are now beginning to go out to those communities to tell them exactly the lies and promises he's made and how horrible a councilman he's been. Maybe there's still time for them to know the whole truth.

Mayor Sam you should post story. This is from LA Observed. I'm sure it won't take Antonio too long to hit up his Neighborhood Councils in CD14 to ask for more money.
What a coincidence
You have to admire the chutzpah of the strategic brains behind Mayor Hahn's reelection campaign. Just hours before tonight's first televised debate in front of the Citywide Alliance of Neighborhood Councils, Hahn announced that he is tripling the budget of every neighborhood council with an additional $100,000. The money is to be spent on street repairs and resurfacing, with the details to be decided by the councils. What better way to make the unpaid citizen-politicans look more important in the eyes of their friends, and feel happier about the mayor at the same time.

The Mayor is pandering to the Neighborhood Councils, AND I LOVE IT.
It would be nice if all these guys pandered a little more to the community.
Can there be too much pandering? Not if it's a group I belong to.
Antonio should start spending some of that state money (estimated to be around $250,000.00) and some of that CLARTS amenities fund money (estimated around $400,000.00) in his district and that will shut up all the nay-sayers.
Nothing wins over community members more than funding their local pet projects.
Really, shouldn't politicians pander more to their constituents, than less?

That picture looks like the one he used in his Council campaign. I WONDER if the Ethics Commission is looking into the illegal use of City political accounts (his Council Campaign Account - which more than likely owns that picture)for the support of a candidate running for another City office.

Jeez, looks like Villaraigosa's people need to stop sending flack releases to Mayor Sam! Tough home crowd.

So it sounds like it's probably a good guess that if you added up the votes of all the activists in the groups listed in the news release it might total 500 people, tops, being generous.

Mayor Sam probably had more "hits" than that, since the blog opened this morning.

Tony V. better pull in "more Democrats;" he certainly isn't going to get much help from any other political camp.

AVD bragged months ago that he had a large percentage of the Eastside vote locked in. WRONG. Not one single organization in his entire CD14 has come out to support him. He has taken money while sitting on thousands of dollars from 2 of his neighborhood councils. Although he sits on the Education and Neigborhood Committee he is yet to make an appearance at his NC's. Although from what I hear he's not welcomed.

I actually voted for AV last time, but not this time. In the last four years I've actually seen him in action, if "action" is the right word. I think people from CD 14 SHOULD come west of the 405 and clue the rest of my neighbors in before it's too late.
As a Westsider and Lifelong Liberal Dem, I'm apalled at the West LA Democratic Club's endorsement. They are truly the blind leading the deaf. AV is one thing and one thing only - a professional candidate. If he did win the Mayor's office, how long do you think it would take for him to eye Feinstein's seat?
