Divide and Conquer

Hugsberg has made his first large splash onto the policy radar map with an ambitious plan to destroy the LAUSD as we know it. According to his site, "We must break up the district. Replacing the gargantuan centralized bureaucracy with dozens of small neighborhood school districts will get more parents involved, put the power to fix education in neighborhood hands, and cut waste and mismanagement."

He lays out his idea with yet another online petition soliciting support for his idea, along with another online only ad. (Rumor has it they are e-blasting it to over 150,000 people. That is quite a contact list if true)

Will the unions ever go along with this? Can he create the same pressure via the online petition to persuade the monoliths at the district office to actually go along? (He did get Hahn to buckle) Is this just a publicity stunt the day before the election? Will the parents join him in the revolt? Is this his version of the Soboroff traffic plan to rally support from?

Only time will tell, but it sure got our attention. Hopefully we'll here more from him at the debate.

All the Mayoral candidates top priority is public safety and Bob comes out talking about schools. Boy is he off the radar.

Come on Huggy Bear. LA is not NY. The Mayor does not run the school district.

Red Flag again on Bob. Hellooooo.....the Mayor has nothing to do with LAUSD and Bob is wasting time on a plan. If he can be this far off track on his thinking (poor Bob) you can well imagine how horrible he would be as Mayor. Bob get a grip. you should be on the same page with getting more cops.

What a stupid thing to say. Mayors in New York City didn't control the schools until the current one (Bloomberg) fought for it and the New York governor (Pataki) supported him.

Do a Google search and you'll see this sort of thing is happening all over. Here's an article from 2002:

Hugs-bob may be onto something here.

Yes, public safety is vital but if Hahn and the press are trumpeting how crime has gone down its going to become a non-issue soon and the dialogue shifts.

Huggy has firmly now created himself as the leader on the next big issue - the failure of LAUSD. This will play well in the Valley and even some sections of South Central, etc. Places where Hahn has big trouble.

With Bitter Bernie flushing himself down the toilet with each word he says, Alarcon's inability to even get broadcasters to pronounce his name correctly, Bob floats on the school issue as a nice place to triangulate himself between Antonio and Mr. Pay to Play.

Not a bad strategy at all.

Ok I have a problem with Bobbby Boy saying "Hertzberg says split would be his first priority as mayor." You can't think about schools especially in South LA with all the violence going on without the need for cops. What is he thinking? Hugs-Bear Bob is getting slammed all over the city on this one. Granted the last poster states that Bob would do this after public safety is in order but when you come out in the press saying this is your first priority education when you have blacks getting killed daily in the South I have a big problem with that. Unless Bob doesn't have a clue how HE would find money to hire more cops and this is just a ploy to stay away from the issue.

Little debate update for you guys -- looks like there's an NBC online (not scientific) but it has Villaraigosa well in the lead. With Hahn and Hertzberg trailing below -- interesting - i guess Hertzberg's interns got tired of clicking Hertzberg and deleting cookies all day.
www.knbc.com on the right side, scroll down. Plus this only counts til 7pm -- then NBC doesn't catalog it anymore, i called them, so all you anti-Antonio wackos who are late to this poll, you have an hour and half after that no one will pay attention, hahhaha.

Also -- notes for tonights debate -- because of the free for all style of the debate expect it to favor...drum roll please -- Chief Parks. I know you guys thought i'd say Antonio or even hertzberg -- but i can tell you right now - this debate is going to be between Parks and Hahn -- with almost everyone else staying out of the way. I suspect Alarcon will swing for the fences as well, but Parks will be the one going into every question, and every answer will begin with an attack on Hahn and his leadershipless agenda and the fact that he's sold LA to contributors.

I think the one point that Parks will also bring up is the fact that Hahn during this 9/11 era style of govt put his FUNDRAISER in charge of the ports, DWP and Airports. I think Parks will begin to punch Hahn in the nose for this and probably get the quote all the media stations use for the night.

I feel a little sorry Hahn....NOOOT

I think Hertzberg will talk about education -- and his sense of bringing govt back to the people. It will be a little hokey but will play well -- Hahn will try to say he is proud of his accomplishments and say crap like BRATTON this and BRATTON that. Antonio will be doing a little prevent offense/defense, i think he's saving his fireworks for when voters are really paying attention. I think hertzberg is doing the same, and will try to be the John Edwards of the debate and stay happy and positive, but sad of the city's current predicament.

Hahn -- he's a hot head, should NOT be underestimated - he is a robot and will say whatever Carrick and Kuwata have told him, mainly because he has no soul and can't speak freely like the others. My personal advice is to not get sucked into a direct debate with Parks -- you elevate him, and he slams you all day and night -- and you give the rest of the candidates (your real challenegers) a free pass to smile and say they love this city.

Alarcon -- ??? DWP rates, leaderless city, Hits HAHN HAHN -- his only surprise of the night will be if he attacks Hahn. The road to the run-off is through Antonio and the fact that he hasn't done much on this is a mystery to me.

MEAT MEAT MEAT you are so wrong. Parks doesn't have a chance in hell. When Hahn got rid of his butt he had absolutely NO supporters and yethe survived and everyone jumped on the bandwagon after the fact like all of city council. Don't underestimate Jimmy Hahn. He's at his best when he's up against the wall. He's proved it time and time again. After the last couple of days media I gotta tell you these candidates sound real poor. They sound like little school children. None of them sound like real leaders. They have the nerve to critize the Chief. The rank and file take that personally. Dumb Dumb Dumb on their part. You don't slam our officers. I can bet they will bring up pay to play and yet ALL OF THEM HAVE THEIR OWN SCANDALS that everyone knows about and hopefully the press will start reporting. This is when the real good stuff starts. Good luck to all and let's see who comes out on top

I have a question for Antonio? if, you're such a great council member please tell the voter what policy have you introduced and implemented to fight crime?
Why should the voter believe anything you say? after all you are the same person who told your district you would not run for Mayor.
If, you are doing such a great job in your district? why are voters in your district organizing a grassroot RECALL CAMPAIGN!

Hahn was the clear winner last night. With all the bullies beating up on him he came back strong. ENRON money Tony took and Bobby Boy has his own troubles with Sunshine Canyon yet they have the audacity to talk about scandals. They screwed up mentioning that last night about Hahn. The candidates have been beating Hahn up on his crime record and yet crime is down. Officers aren't leaving like when Parks was Chief. Word is a lot of them want to go NOW because he's been talking about taking away 3-12. One line in LA times on Tony. That says a lot on it's own.
