A Little Slice of LA History For You
One of Mayor Sam's favorite newspapers was the now defunct Los Angeles Herald Examiner. Back in my day, we knew it as the Herald Express the LA base of muckracking publisher William Randolph Hearst.
The Los Angeles Times, which shed not a crocodile tear the day its only competition died in 1989, has an interesting story about how the site of today's Los Angeles Convention Center wound up on the site of the old Hearld Express building. They highlight how Mayor Sam set out to get and got the convention center he wanted.
