Fire The SOBs!

Chief of Staff - what is the crap you are sending out under my name about Hertzberg and his hugs? Next time you post something under my name, ASK ME!

Anyway, I'm not the only boss having trouble with employees. Look at the City of Los Angeles! The Daily News has uncovered that out of 37,000 civil service employees, only 6 were fired for cause in the last year.

What the hell kind of crap is that?

Back in my day, if someone was incompetent they got fired and if you posted a girlie calendar in your office you got a wink from the boss. Now, you can wrap a gargage truck around a telephone pole but if you post the Hee Haw Honeys, YOU'RE FIRED!

Los Angeles city government with 37,000 employees fired only six workers for doing a poor job in the past 15 months, largely because complex procedures and elaborate civil service rules protect incompetents, a Daily News review of public records and interviews with experts inside and outside city government shows.
If any of you have stories about dimwits on the city dime, pass them along or post them to this article.

Not only can't you get rid of underperforming employees, you also have to provide them with a nice pension and medical benefits forever and ever.

Someone in the City family (I won't use the name) said it best when they described working for the City as "welfare with dignity."

This is why people like Adena Tessler still have jobs. She's completely incompetent, would prefer to hang out with Nate Holden just to get her into places and parties, and more interested in who she can date at City Hall rather than what policies she can shape...a sad excuse for professional women in the workplace.

Speaking of Nate Holden, isn't he dead yet? Not to wish ill will on Old Nate, but it would be nice if he moved on so he could join the staff at Mayor Sam's Blog. It would be awesome if Nate could write for the Sister City, he was the best thing about LA Cityview.

How many city workers would need to have been fired for you to be satisfied? Considering the DN statistics excluded probationary terminations, resignations for any reason, reversions, cops, fire fighters, council staff members, part-time workers?

It is simply gratuitous to argue that city workers don't get fired. They do. Hopefully, management is right & can prove it. What's wrong with that?

Does the termination body count include incompetent managers, commissioners with conflicts of interest & Dept. Heads? Or do we have to wait for a new Mayor? Might not be too long now, seems like the whole City's under investigation.

There is no magic number in terms of city workers that should be fired, however these numbers are far, far below private industry averages. Be real - we know there are far more people who should be fired who are not fired. Yes, as Mayor Sam said, you're more likely to be fired for posting the Sports Illustrated swimsuit calendar in your office than for losing a million dollars or some other form of gross incompetency.
