LaBonge Goes All High School

The day prior to what could be the biggest election of his political career always controversial and never boring Councilman Tom LaBonge finds himself in a minor brouhaha.

He has unfriended local businessman, activist and talkradio host Frank Sheftel on LaBonge's Facebook page.

LaBonge, who is known for starting off introductions asking individuals "What high school did you you go to?" has been at odds with Sheftel in the past over various issues in the District but, according to Sheftel, they have had an amicable working relationship over the years.

What may have been the tipping point was Sheftel's recent expression of support for LaBonge's primary opponent, Stephenm Box.

"Unfriending me was so high schoolish," Sheftel told us about LaBonge, a graduate of John Marshall High School.

The most recent Facebook dust-up involving another candidate on the ropes was when Councilman Jose Huizar unfriended challenger Rudy Martinez.

How is Frank Sheftel, a weird guy on his best day, relevant to an ACTUAL elected official?

In the same way that Phil Jennerjahn is relevant?

I want Labonge to lose badly, like everyone else does, but you shouldn't try to make "news" where none exists. Frank Sheftel is a self promoting nobody.

Yeah, I know, when you insult a higby friend, the comment doesn't get posted. But most people I know have no idea who Sheftel is and, therefore, couldn't care less about this "news."

What, did Frank cry to you about this this morning?

All this "story" tells me is that Frank Sheftel has questionable judgment from the get-go for having Tom LaBonge as his "friend" in the first place!

I mean, who the hell would want Tom LaBonge as a friend, even if it is on meaningless Facebook?

The only thing that is more odd than that is why you consider someone being un-friended blog-worthy in the first place.
